  1. I'm actually working with my fabricator to build a few of the "kits" for anyone who may be interested. I dont want to jump the gun and make any promises....so I wont make any moves like that until my car is complete and running. But as it stands right now, over a years worth of designing, fabbing, and flat-out punching the wall in frustration, things are finally working out!! I'm terrible at posting progress pics, but I'll do my best to keep this thread going with updates.
  2. For those who are interested, my project is still in motion (although going slow due to my crazy work travels). I decided to take what I've already done myself (custom front crossmember, steering rack mounts, etc) to a hotrod shop a few hours from my house to have the motor mounts and other minor fab work completed. I'm pleased to say that as of yesterday, the LS1 and T56 are in the car.....with no cutting of the firewall! Had to use a custom bellhousing as well as a manual rack to work. A custom one-off oilpan is being built now, as all oil pans on the market hang too low. Oil pan, wiring harness, driveshaft, headers, etc are next. I wonder when this car will be finished. haha
  3. (Gonna keep this thread alive, only because it had so many followers) Looks like this Moroso oil pan (model # 17002) is no longer being made...it's not on their website anymore. There seems to be a "replacement" (model # 20140), but it's nowhere near as small as the 17002 model. I'll call Moroso in the morning to see what's up. This sucks because this is the pan I used to make all my measurements/mockups for my Z32 LS1 swap. NOW, let's talk about the Autokraft pan. BRAAP....do you by any chance have the measurement for that pan? I sent them an email requesting this info, but haven't heard back from them....and I'm impatient. haha
  4. Making very good progress on my Z32 LS1 project. No cutting of the firewall and/or the hood. The T56 and LS1 (foam mockup block) have been temporarily installed! A few tweaks to my custom subframe, and I think I'm set! Here's a pic of the mockup block with the T56 attached.
  5. Ok, ok....let's not let this thread die. I posted a while ago, and I'm doing the swap in my Z32 convertible. As stated earlier, I'm working on fabbing up a custom crossmember and steering rack to allow the LSx to be a bolt-in swap..........and so far, so good. I've got a pretty sweet crossmember setup already mocked up, so hopefully I'll be able to put it in the car and start building motor mounts soon (I'm in the process of buying a house, so that has set me back a bit). If anyone knows where I can get a good, low mileage LS1 or LS2 swap with t56 tanny for a decent price, let me know. The prices I've seen lately are crazy!! I'll try my best to keep the updates coming. Good luck to everyone out there doing the swap right now!!
  6. Got the plastic mock-up block from Summit......it's pretty sweet! I actually just sat it in my engine bay the second I got it, just for the hell of it! lol Seeing it in there made me want this swap that much more!! So not to hijack BRAAPs thread, I will be starting my own build thread. Remember, I will not be cutting the firewall. I am in the process of building a complete bolt-in front crossmember and steering rack that will elimiate the need to cut the firewall, cut the hood, etc. (It's already been started...hehe) Of course, I'll keep checking this thread regularly! Good luck with your BMW BRAAP!!!
  7. Hi everyone...gonna go ahead and jump in here. I'm planning an LSx swap in my Z32 as well. And like BRAAP, I am not wanting to cut my firewall/trans tunnel. Soooo, here is what I have so far: I've got my donor car as well as an "extra" car (I believe BRAAP calls it a mock-up mule:mrgreen:). I also have 2 additional front cross members and steering racks that I will be using for mockups. I will be using a Mcleod bellhousing in hopes that it will give me enough clearance in that area. And finally, a plastic mock-up LS1 engine block should be here in the next couple of days, which will make it alot easier to work with. So basically I'll be tinkering around with different steering rack setups (and modified cross members if needed) in hopes that I can come up with some sort of solution to this problem that we all seem to be having...lol. BRAAP, your info thus far has been awesome, so keep it coming....the more work you do, the less I have to do...haha. jk
