  1. Well, I finally got the L28 wired into my car. It starts up and run's smooth but dies after about 5 seconds. I've checked the fuel pump and it seems to be fine, the spark seems to be fine, everything I've checked seems alright. Any suggestion on the most likely thing to make an engine kill? I'm fairly sure it's something electrical. The motor doesn't sputter out like it's starving or anything, it's a very instant kill like everything going to the engine shuts down entirely. As always, any help is greatly appreciated.
  2. Well I haven't had much time to work on my car lately between school and work but started moving on it again this week. I forgot how the vacuum control unit on the distrib. hooks up. Can anybody tell me? I'm fairly sure it has a 'T' connection that goes into the intake manifold and to the hose connection canister thing at the front of the passenger side in the engine bay, could somebody check and make sure this is accurate? It's a '76 280 setup if that makes a difference. Also can anybody tell me what the ignition transistor unit does? The one in my 260 didn't originally have the distrib hooked up to it. So I'm not sure if I can take the one out of the 280 and just hook the wires into it from the 260 or not. As always all help is greatly appreciated.
  3. Looks like everything out there is for early 260... hopefully all of them are where I need except for the one. Can't find any that show where the fuel pump wire runs for late 260. Hopefully it won't be to bad to map.
  4. Does anybody know where I can find a wiring diagram for a late 260Z? I have the 280 side of the wiring to convert my car to EFI figured out but the only 260Z diagrams I can find are for the early 260's which have a different connection to the fuel pump and I'm assuming a few other differences as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Also, not entirely sure what this box is on my 280Z but I'm guessing I'll have to wire it in as well.
  6. Alright, still making progress on the L28 swap and I'm running out of stuff to do except the wiring which I've been avoiding like the plague as I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to wiring. I know people have done this swap and I've searched around a lot but haven't found any pictures or explanations of how to wire everything. There are three things I need to wire that I'm struggling with. These two connections that are inside the firewall and disapear into a large wire clump in the 280Z. And this connection by the coil. that runs to a part of the intake and to the thermostat This is where it needs to connect but the connections are different and have different amounts of wires going in. As always any help would be very appreciated.
  7. Alright, sounds like surge tank is going to be the way to go. Thank you all very much.
  8. I am currently in the process of swapping an L28 into my 260Z and I'm keeping the fuel injection off the 280Z. I've searched around several forums and found threads that say I do have to swap the gas tank and some that don't mention it at all. Can anybody tell me for sure if I need to put a '75/'76 gas tank in my car for this to work or if bigger fuel lines will be good enough?
  9. So, I'm swapping the L26 in my 260z for an L28 this weekend. I have three motors in total, I would like to use the clutch off the L26 as I know it was replaced a few years ago, I have no idea how old/used the other clutches I have are. Will the clutch on the L26 work on the L28 motor I'm putting in it? Also it had a 5 speed swapped in before I bought it, I don't know if that matters as to what clutch I need or not. Any help appreciated, thanks.
  10. Alright, last week I swapped the tranny in my Z as it was making a terrible grinding noise. Now my clutch will barely engage, the car can barely pull itself with the pedal all the way out. I put on the slave cylinder that originally went with the tranny and have adjusted everything I can think of. It looks like the slave cylinder is holding the fork out a bit too much in the static position. Is there anything I can do to fix this short of ripping the trans out and bending the fork?
  11. That's what I meant by the N42/N47, sorry should have clarified that, those are the heads on the two motors I know they had different intake/exhaust ports so I wasn't sure if the stuff would bolt up the same. Why would you say keep the carbs?
  12. So the L26 in my 260 has a bad motor and I was going to swap it with an L28. I have a N47 motor that I'm going to put in but the intake/fuel delivery is somewhat beat up, I have a good intake/fuel delivery system on an N42 head motor. Can I use the intake system off of an N42 motor on an N47 motor or are they incompatible? Also the N42 motor has headers on it,would it be possible to swap those over as well?
  13. Digging through all the threads on the S12 swap I found this: "The S12+8 caliper has two 43.0mm diameter pistons and two 33.8mm diameter pistons whereas the S12W has four 43.0mm diameter pistons. This increase in piston area requires a larger (1") diameter master cylinder when using the S12W calipers." I couldn't find anything that confirmed or denied this post? Does anybody know for sure, if I didn't have to find a new master cylinder to swap in it would be nice but I want to do this right. Also, is the 280 master cylinder any better than the 260?
