  1. Yeah, I don't see the point in spending allot of money for a name brand muffler. A "Race" Muffler is just a metal can with minimal baffling. Since I am still running the stock diameter 1 7/8" pipe there is no point in spending money on mufflers. Once I have my headers and mid pipe then I will search for better muffler options, until then this will do!
  2. Here in North Carolina, Smog or Emissions testing is not required for vehicles 1995 or older so I have free range on any mods. I have a complete 1983 280zx in my Back yard that I picked up for $500, the plan is to use the complete drive-train and build the L28 with my n42 240z heads, will need to calculate the cc on the heads to determine what pistons to use, I would like to have around 10.5-11:1 cr. once that part of the build is complete I will add 40mm triple webbers. So good-bye to these sorry ass Carbs. I make sure to keep my build updated! Cheers
  3. Hey Guys, Finally got home from over seas and found some time to work on my Z. I have purchased this car about 1.5y ago which was in storage for 15y in southern Cali...RUST FREE, She is a little rough looking but that will all change in the Future. First I had to Buy a Batterie, lol Secondly I drained the Tank of about 5 Gal worth of GAS/Varnish...Nasty, I changed all Rubber Fuel lines and added a new Fuel Filter about 2 hours worth of work. We finally got her crankin and Running but hardly. One of the Carbs was flooding like crazy so my Boss, we are mechanics at a Local Performance Shop..decided to add a Fuel Regulator to lower the Fuel pressure but it still was no go, the Carbs where just not performing so I gave Oreilly's a call and order two Carb Kits for $50 bucks, My boss then rebuild the carbs and voila, we shall have a fine running Z Of course the brakes where no good so I rebuild the Master Cylinder past Sunday, re-cut the all rotors and drums Bleed the system and brakes are working fine. Just one more thing before I lower my Z from the Lift and take it back on the road. I went ahead and modified the Rear Muffler. I basically gutted it and welded a perforated straight pipe from the inlet to the outlet, It went from stock sound to nice and throaty in less then 60 minutes and it didn't cost a Dime, especially since my boss pays for the argon and wire. I will try to follow up with a 4x4 Toyota brake upgrade this week. Fuel Regulator Oh snap, Gotta Cut some more I was really surprised how well it sounds, not to loud just right!
  4. I'm thinking that you need to build a L28 without the stroker crank unless you already have the crank, you can get 2.9liters with an 89mm bore. My old friend who has is own machine shop and has been building anything from turbo 510's in the 70's to 2009's corvette z06's, the Datsun Head design is very difficult to make decent flow #'s because of its design. He has build a 3.1 for one of his customers last year and had to weld up all the combustion chambers so he could reshape them to make decent flow numbers. Well you never make your power in the Bottom end, it is all in your Top-end, thats why mid 70's buick 455's only made 180-200hp cause the compression Ratio and Head design. Turbos and Superchargers/Blowers can overcome poorly designed Heads. For myself I will probably build me an L28 with Flat tops , 240z Head 11:1 Ratio and a nice Cam with Triples. If I can make 200hp at the wheels I will be Happy. You see, you can spend $3k to make a nice motor that will make 200-220hp or $6k total to make an extra 40-50hp on top of the motor you can build for half. If you want more power you could build a 4.3 Chevy V6 with a Procharger or use a RB25DE and cam it or use a VQ35 from a 350z (300HP) 6sp tranny
  5. When i used to sell cars at our local Mercedes shop we had this Pharmaceutical Rep chick bring in her brand new CLK 430 and she drove this car 40,000miles without oil-change. She Literally cried when we told her that she had to pay for a new engine and the Bumper to Bumper warranty would not cover it. The funny thing is when you buy a new merc the first couple of oil changes are on the house and the convenient service light in your LCD display reminds you annoyingly that you need to change your oil.
  6. It probably looks very good to a person that never welded for a living. Well My professions is a Pipe Welder and If i TIG welded like that guy they probably would tell me to pack my ♥♥♥♥ and go home. One of the other major thing I noticed that he did not capped off the ends and feed the stainless piping with Argon which will cause it to "Sugar up" It basically will give you bad penetration which can cause your exhaust to crack at the welds. Also if you haven't already done this mod, I would have your Stainless headers Ceramic coat them because when stainless gets hot it loves to crack. So if it should ever crack at the welds later down the road, he better not charge you. Not trying to be negative nancy cause I totally envy your car, just giving you an opinion on these welds as a pipe welder. B.B.
  7. Hey Blakt out, I Like how you have it all TIG welded I just hope you're not paying to much for this exhaust, these welds are Amateur at best. These guys might be great at other things but the welder needs to go back to school. Like I said I hope your not paying Top Shelf Price here
  8. Sinister... i like :) thanks!! your 240 looks immaculate

  9. Wow, your car is looking nice, where did you get the paint code from?
  10. Why would you want to go with a Crate SR, youre better of rebuilding it and install some JE, Mahle forged pistons. so that way you can crank up that boost without having to worry to break your motor. My engine builder charges on avarege $800 in labor plus parts to rebuild. He primarily builds race engines, they have all the Mashing equipment in-house, Honing, bohring, Milling, Air Flow Bench ect . Tony Raimondo Racing LLC. in Fayetteville NC
  11. he is probably making a Carbon fiber roof since his buddys manufacture carbon fiber parts.
  12. Hey Mull, I just got done reading this thread and watching 18 vids. I admire your dedication. you sure don't mess around. I was curious...i noticed your engine build is quite extensive, Besides the crank, block and the heads there is nothing stock. Do you plan on chasing down the Gostrider in Stockholm?
  13. Man I just got through reading this thread, what a project it must be. I really enjoy your RB swap, it looks very clean. I hope it is all worth it for ya.
  14. yea, they look like that just with like holes around the rim?

but mine are diamond racing wheels. kind of look like gloss black steelies haha wraped in toyo proxes

  15. I have been getting many Idieas about what I want and I'm thinking an all Silver Theme but I saved this video to my favorite and have been watching it again and again, it reminds me of an old Merc SLR or a vintage Ferrari and want to keep it classic original from the exterior and swap my L24 for an KA24 (T) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DsyyndCfIQ&feature=related
