  1. I have found and read an old thread about mounting up a 240sx rear suspension. Several guys have done this successfully. In the tread it also mentions a j30 conversion but it dosent say that anyone has done it yet. Anybody know of someone that has? I Would prefer this setup for the VLSD I think if everything else works as good. Does anyone know of any negatives in using the J30 instead of the 240sx?
  2. A guy who used to race at Portland International raceway was advised not to drive his car on stretched tires. He did it anyway, Wrote off the car, was in a coma, nearly died and spent a few months in the hospital. Consider changing something maybe?
  3. I have used a lot of velcro for other purposes and found especially here on Arizona that the self adhesive gives up. I have used plumbers goop to help the adhesive stay on. Works perfect. It can be cut off if needed. It doesn't dry rock hard but will not come off on its own. Look for it at Home Depot or Lowe's Wallmart etc... About 4-5 dollars. It is a great waterproof glue for lots of things.
  4. I have never looked under the hood of a G35. Do they not have a fan clutch? Are there numbers on my engine that would identify what it came from? Anybody know?
  5. My VQ is out of a 2004 G35 sedan. At least that is what I was told. Would the block and general dimensions be different?
  6. Hi Tim - I just went to the garade to take measurements for you. Here is what I got. Overall height from oil pan to top of intake manifold....................28'' height to top of heads......................................................23 1/2'' height to top of front cam covers.......................................24 3/4'' width from head to head not including plumbing tubes............22 1/2'' overall length from front idler pully to where trans bolts up...........21'' The farthest point forward is the fan clutch assy. but most of us will remove that to go electric fan I assume.
  7. While watching the video of the west coast Z meet that was held in California in April I noticed an early Z with a very different lokking dash. I finally figured out what it is I think. I believe it was a 90s something 300ZX dash. It looked good. So I thought if he can install a late model dash from another car, why can't a lot of different modern dashes work. Some of my latest Ideas include the dash from a Mitsubishi eclipse or the dash from a acura RSX type S. I haven't looked at the eclipse dash yet except in pictures. The RSX is my daily driver and I think they are great looking dashes and I think it would fit with a little modifying including the center console. I am going to look into this further before spending hundreds on recovering the stock dash. Any thoughts?
  8. Saying that delrin is tough is an understatment. I needed a roller type chain tensioner for a D sports racer ( Kawasaki ZX10 powered roadrace car). I made several of them thinking they would wear out after each race. Three years later the original piece was still on the car and looking nearly brand new. Never used any of the spares I made. If a motorcycle chain running across it at 11,000 rpm can't hurt it, I'm pretty sure a window bracket would last all of our lifetimes back to back.
  9. I looks to me like the engine harness goes through the firewall and into the interior of the car and has the ECU plug on it and that is all they appear to have on the video. The optional loom as far as I am learning is the interior loom that has the BCM, IPDM, Gauge cluster wiring and the diagnostic port. I am trying to decide whether or not to go with the interior loom so I can get the diagnostic port or can I just splice in the diagnostic port itself. This whole thing would be so much easier if Austin would just sell me his car so he begin a new one and fix all the stuff he would like to do different!!!
  10. Here is the video from zfever in case someone missed it. No NATS, No BCM, No electronics except the ECU. Very encouraging for me. There is a chance I could get this thing running in the future.
  11. I need to find the video and watch it again but I think that there was no BCM in the system yet they obviously reved it up well past a safe mode limit. Possibly they bypassed the safe mode or BCM when they bypassed the NATS system.
  12. My engine and harness with ECU comes from a 2004 G35 with automatic.
  13. So it is possible to wire in a diagnostic port. That helps. I am still a newbie and am trying to figure out what I need and what I don't. I just found out from Eric that BCM stands for Body control module. I have no Idea what that does or if it is crucial to the project. Same with the IPDM (integrated digital power management) unit. What do they do and do I need them? Sorry for all the questions but I have to start somewhere.
  14. I just hauled all of my wiring out to the driveway to take some pics. It is difficult to know what I need if I don't know for certain what I have. I will try and attatch the pics and maybe you can identify this stuff. There is definately a large gromet that goes through the firewall into the interior of the car and then plugs into the ECU. I think the black box is the automatic ECU. The silver box may be a manual ECU? That is what I was told. There doesn't seem to be a plug on the wiring loom that it will fit it. After about three attempts to upload images I have decided that I am not only iliterate when it comes to wiring, I can't manage to figure out computers either. I can E-mail pics though. Maybe if I can figure out what parts I need I can do all the fab work and hire someone to do the wiring. http://s859.photobucket.com/albums/ab151/40flash/?start=40 Can anyone tell if there is a OBD2 access port in the wiring I have in the pics? I don't know what one looks like.
