  1. So a few weeks ago, before I had the fuel system finished, we cranked the engine with a plug out and observed visible spark. I finished the fuel system last weekend, cranked it, and it wouldn't start. Pulled a plug to check spark, no spark. No hiss (nor smell) of fuel spraying into the cylinder either. My background is almost exclusively in the Z32TT, so I don't even know where to start looking here. The only thing I recall changing/moving is the ECU (I mounted it), but I checked the connectors there and they seem tight. I live 250 miles away from the car and only get to work on it every other weekend or so, so I was kinda hoping someone with experience with the L28ET could give a few ideas of where to look when I go back next weekend. I need to get this thing running before snow starts so I can bring it home. Engine, harness, and ECU are all 1983, and the LED on the ECU does light up. On a different note, when I first fired up the fuel pump and the system started getting pressure, there was a strange rhythmic howling noise coming from the fuel rails... is this normal when an engine's been sitting for a long time? It went away after a few minutes, but it was a sound I had never heard before. I'm gonna order a mechanical fuel gauge to make sure the system is pressurizing properly, but when I pulled the return off to ensure fuel was flowing through the system, it seemed to have adequate pressure.
  2. I'm currently making arrangements with a guy who has some 84 NA wheels that I can use temporarily (no way I'd leave those hideous wheels on my car for long), but if that doesn't work out, I'll certainly keep you in mind. Thanks!
  3. Thanks. To be safe, I was looking at a set of 16's in Cali, but the guy won't ship so I'm trying to find someone in Cali who can pick them up and ship them to me. If that doesn't work out, I'll just find the cheapest 15"+ wheels possible until I can afford some nice wheels. Shitty that their website doesn't specify the need for larger diameter wheels, though... you'd think that's kind of important.
  4. So I just finished a rear disc conversion using the Modern Motorsports kit and now my OEM (1973) 14" wheels won't fit (they rub the calipers)... I searched Modern Motorsports' website and see no mention of requiring larger rear wheels, but see on page 12 of the upgrade options sticky discusses 14" wheels not fitting... oh well, I guess, but does anybody know the minimum offset and diameter that I need to be able to put wheels on this car?
  5. I'm in the middle of getting my 240Z (1973) running and just need to finish the fuel system. Unfortunately, I suspect this is going to involve either spending a lot of money cleaning/sealing the stock tank and modifying it for higher flow (car has an L28ET), or it's going to involve spending a little less for a new fuel cell altogether. The problem is, I'm away at grad school and am only able to make it back to the car every few weekends, so I can't do the measurements I need to do to start considering fuel cells. The ones I'm considering have the following measurements: 17''L x 23''W x 11''H 17''L x 17''W x 11''H I'd like to run the larger one (16gal vs 12gal and only $10 more), but either will work. Could anybody check underneath their car with a tape measure, and let me know if either of these would fit? And if you could give an estimate to the dimensions of the stock tank, I'd appreciate that as well. I suspect they're too tall (especially if I wanted to modify things to retain the stock filler neck), but I don't want to make an incorrect assumption and overlook an alternative that could save me a lot of money and work. On a less important note, if anybody has a picture of the fuel tank so I could see how everything is arranged, I'd appreciate that as well.
  6. The first philosophical imperative is to not speak about things of which you have no knowledge. Unfortunately, this is why I don't like the minimum post requirement on classifieds posts... I don't have the experience with these cars to answer questions (only had an S30 for a few weeks now, all of my experience is with VG30DETT-equipped Z32's), and I certainly don't have enough questions to warrant 40 posts, so it'll be forever before I can post a for sale ad. lol
  7. Thanks for all the help guys... I was concerned that this was going to be ridiculously expensive, but it doesn't seem like it'll be too bad. I'm actually thinking I might be best-off just installing the 280ZX compressor I have, since I suspect the other is a York compressor as well. And once I have the condenser in place, I'll find a hydraulic repair shop (thanks for that advice as well - I'd probably have overpaid at some AC repair shop).
  8. The AC won't likely be ready this year... and I don't anticipate next summer being so cool. I'm from the southside (Oak Lawn to be exact) but I'll be away at grad school for the next year. The car is in Oak Lawn until it's running and safe enough for highway use. Thanks for the offer though... I'll let you know if I'm in need of anything.
  9. So, my 240Z apparently had an air conditioning system (dealer add-on, as I'm sure they all were at the time). However, I believe I'm missing parts (I picked the car up from a guy who began an L28ET swap and never finished it) and was hoping people on here could shed some light on this. The original engine still has the AC compressor and bracket attached (I'll be swapping that over to the L28ET soon). The interior still has the knob under the dash. The drier is still in the engine bay (unattached at the moment, obviously), but I have no condenser and I don't see any lines that would go to a condenser. Surely it needs a condenser to function, right? I'm concerned that the last guy removed the lines and tossed them when he repainted the bay... if that's the case, any idea how much I should expect to spend on custom lines to a condenser (I've got a friend who has extra condensers lying around)? Any help is appreciated. And don't bother saying things like "real sports cars don't have AC" or "real men don't need AC" or "my AC is the windows down"... if you're thinking one of those, you simply don't understand my hatred of hot weather. lol
  10. Thanks. I'll let you know how it worked out - I'll be working on that sometime between today and Sunday.
  11. I guess I'm just afraid of how frail the car may be... that's a good point though, I'm so used to everything being electronic that actual mechanical linkage just doesn't come to mind. lol
  12. The 240Z that I've recently acquired sat for about two decades. As a result, just about every slider on the dash (fan speed, temp, etc) is seized. Is there any kind of spray I can use to loosen these up or do I simply have to dissect them, clean them, and use dielectric grease? Any advice is welcome... this is my first older car, so I have no experience with this kind of stuff (my other Z's were all Z32's).
  13. Coming from the Z32TT world, if I learned anything about turbos, it's not to buy cheap knockoffs from companies who primarily vend through ebay. Catastrophic failure is usually the end result. Turbos spin in excess of 100k rpms... you want to know that they are machined, assembled, and balanced properly. And reputable name brands can help ensure that.
  14. I need one of the little chrome-painted caps that goes over the bolts that hold the passenger's side interior door panel on. I'd rather not pay ~$45 for the entire handle on eBay when I just need the cap. Referring to the silver caps on the ends of the handle in this pic. I also need a passenger's side mirror, this style: Email me if you have either available... condition is not a concern as I can make them look nice rocdahous1@aol.com
