  1. Good thing there is a place for 4 spare fuses at the base of the panel. Anyone else see any problem with the circuitry before I start soldering it together?
  2. NewZed: Pretty sure the starter wiring is correct. Thanks for the compliment. I'm a graphic artist. I drew the layout then cleaned up a scan and added the words with Photoshop. ZHoob2004: I'm thinking the same way as you on the oil pressure switch. The switch pressure is adjustable and default is 5 lbs so should not be a problem when starting. The power for ignition is coming from the key switch. The power for the push button is coming from a fused 12v circuit (cig lighter that is already wired to that location) and is only exciting the relay. Thanks for your reply.
  3. I've been a member here for 13 years and have probably read every post (twice). Now I have a bunch of questions so I tried to wrap them all up into one big question with the use of a wiring diagram. Would someone with good wiring knowledge please look over my drawing and advise me if it’s OK as is or what needs to be changed. Thanks guys! 1977 Datsun 280Z Restomod 2005 L33 Chevy 5.3L V8 Motor Carb Manifold with MSD Ignition
  4. The way I see it an LQ9 6.0L (10.08 comp ratio) would be $2000-3000, plus intake and carb, puts that combo at $2950 to $3950. My suggested LM7 5.3L (9.49 comp ratio) without the block huggers is now $2130. Remember this is street driven and I'm more interested in the looks and sound of a carbed motor with added cam while keeping the cost reasonable.
  5. Do the stock manifolds work with the JCI mounts and 280Z steering?
  6. In the April issue of Car Craft (Yes, April 2007) they take a junkyard Gen3 6.0L (364 CI) truck engine, added a GMPP carb manifold with a 750 Holley, mild GMPP cam, MSD ignition and long tube headers. The end result was 480 HP and 450 ft-lbf for $3775. I've been looking at the Gen3 LS1 engines but have found them to be somewhat expensive and often abused. The Vortec 5300 (LM7) is a V8 truck engine (5.3L 323 CI.) based on the Gen3 small-block V8. The LM7 is a very common junkyard motor so it is much less expensive than the LS1. Using the concept from the Car Craft article I came up with this engine idea: $540 Vortec 5.3L (323 CI) LM7 Engine, low milage junk yard unit $690 Edelbrock Performer LS1 Intake Manifold Kit with MSD ignition $266 Edelbrock Performer 600 cfm 4-Barrel carb $300 Edelbrock Performer RPM Hydraulic Roller Camshaft $250 Crane Valve Springs, retainers and cups $370 Hooker Super Competition Block Hugger Headers $ 84 Gaskets, Oil, filter $2500 total A similar setup on a 5.7L block with an 800 cfm carb pulled 410 HP. Does this sound like a good swap engine for my street driven 280Z? Thanks for any help! Lenn
  7. See that LS1 in autocross action here: http://www.datsuns.com/media/
  8. Anyone on dial-up who is avoiding downloading these movies should find someone with a high-speed connection who will help you do it. They are informative and just amazing. Thanks Mull
  9. Lots of good information in this discussion. Do you need any stock A/C parts to install the Vintage air system in a non-A/C car or is everything available as after market? Thanks for being pioneers for the rest of us. Lenn
  10. I'm planning to use the 87-92 HO 5.0 that comes with notched, forged pistons and roller cam. I'll add AFR aluminum heads with a manifold and carb setup. If I can afford it, I'll install a high performance clutch, Lakewood scatter shield and G-Force T-5 transmission. The theme I'm going to follow with my Z is that of the 289 FIA Cobras.
  11. I just bought one of Al's mounts a few weeks ago. Contacted him through his web site. Top quality design and workmanship! Lenn
