Orginially I was thought I could get away with repairing the frame rails. But after cutting open the frame rails, corrosion made them unrepairable. So rail replacement was necessary. After checking out the replacement floor pans and frame rails available, I decided to construct my own. Normally one can get away without bracing the body to do the replacement. But I

found some corrosion on the front of driver side rocket panel. Could not determine how strong the rockers were without cutting them open. I constructed body bracing inside the car just above the floor pan. The bracing was mounted to the two lower door hinges mounts. The outer seat belt mounts were used for the other side of the body brace. 1" square steel tubing was used in a crossing pattern to provide support for the floor pan. I want to make it bolted in instead of just welding it .Construction took about

two days with all the fitting that necessary.

Well, after pounding the calculator trying to figure out how I was going replace the rb with a 2j.... it just wasn't adding up. was going to cost way to much to transplant the 2j in the place of the rb. SOOOOOO I did some research and picked up a bone stock 5.3 truck motor just in case. After I did the math and sold the rb.... I was able to get everything I need to put a turbo 5.3 in the car and have a bunch of cash left over ;>

Specs

stock 5.3 truck motor with 40k on ticker.

chromoly push rods

BTR trunnion upgrade

stage 2 BTR turbo cam

titanium springs and retainers.

Melling hi volume/pressure oil pump

I also pulled pistons and checked bearings. Damn things looked like new and measure good so I reused and increased the gap on the top rings for boost.

All this will be mated to the same drivetrain I had in the rb Combo.

Powerglide, ford 8.8, currently 4:56 gearing but will be going to a 3.70

Do to the way the trans tunnel and chassis was built around the RB the ls motor will sit a little more forward then a typical install which will make getting the BW480 in there a challenge.

	Hello everyone,

I was thinking of starting a thread about my LSA swap but i know there are several but if you are interested i'll post😀.

I have a 260Z bought three years ago, drove it with the Inline 6 for two years.

I started with the brakes as they were not so good so to speak.....

I bought Porsche boxter S calipers from a 2016 and discs from a BMW F30 335i made new brackets and twin master cylinders.

At first i made new hubs in aluminium but have now changed to hubs from a S13 as i had some flex that made my brakes a bit unpredictable 😱.

So this it how it started. Isn't it always the way? It just followed me home! I haven't had a Z since the 80's. I spent the last several years building a Sunbeam Alpine. It had a Ford V6, I put in a T5 from a 2000 Mustang in it, Tru trac rear diff, 4 linked it, Mazda RX7 turbo brakes all around... So much stuff, but my wife can't stand riding in a car without AC down here, so unfortunately I had to pass it on so that cash is funding the Z project. Since I always had a soft spot for the Zs I started looking and found one in Texas. Of course I only could get a description over the phone and VERY few pictures, and guess what!!! I found one of the elusive rust free Z's. So without high hopes I headed to Texas to get it. 9 hours or so later there it was, in all its rusted glory! Actually it wasn't too bad. The usual rust in no structural places at all. Offered less than half of what we agreed on the phone and was ready to walk away. Next thing I know I'm at the uhaul place getting a trailer. So it all begins again. With this build I am buying as much bolt on already made items as possible. On my last car there was no support so I had to draw, design, get water cut, adapt EVERYTHING. I want this to go much faster. So quick summary from then to now is I got a 2004 GTO engine and transmission, JCI mounts, JTR headers are supposed to be here today. I pulled the rear drivetrain from a 91 Q45 and rear brakes to go with that from a Z32. Half the TTT rear suspension is here and the other half should be next week.

I finally got the 5.3 and 4l60E swapped in after about 2 1/2 years of collecting parts. I have obtained alot of useful information and parts from this website so I thought I would share my experience with the forum. If you have any questions about the Z or ideas on how to do something better please post it. I hope you guys enjoy!

This is how it started for me. About 4 years ago I was watching a video on Youtube of a LS swapped Z car and thought, that looks like fun. So here I am. I purchased the car from a gentleman in Colorado that had previously bought it from California. It was his "backup Z" incase his was wrecked or stolen. He decided to liquidate so that's when I swooped in and got it for a mere $2,000. It was a great deal. An all original Z car with very minimal rust and 85k miles. I trailered the car home and I immediately started in on the L28 engine and getting it running. I'm sure it sat for about 22 years from what I could tell because it still had a 1986 California liscense tag on it. The goo in the gas tank was not easy to clean. Within 2 weeks it was running and I was driving everywhere. Then the parts collecting started for the swap.

I'm more of a picture and video kind of person so I'll keep the story time short and start in on the specs and pics. All custom components were made and installed by myself except the exhaust, fan shroud and JCI swap parts.

Apparently this is old news, but I just found out about it. You add 2 copper oil drain plug washers under the shifter detent bolt, and it makes the T56 shift much better. Anyone here done this?

I just want to daily and be able to drive on highways. What are the manual transmissions I can use to fit into my 1972 240z?

I just installed Holley EFI analog gauges in my dash because I’m running the Holley terminator ECU. I really like the speedhut gauges but went with Holley because I can hook them straight to the ECU. Long story short the more I looked at them the more they look like speedhut and I did some digging and several Holley forum posts are saying they’re actually made by speedhut for Holley. Only thing I don’t like is the small gauges only come in 2 1/16 and of course the Holley logo. Anyway just thought I’d pass it along.

Hi All,

I thought I might as well start a build thread at some point. I've been lurking for a couple years and posting a few questions and comments here and there. I bought my '71 Z on Labor Day weekend, 2013. It came with an uncompleted RB25 swap in it. When I bought the car I was looking for a 240z to swap an LS1 into, but this looked like a great deal so I picked it. I thought I would complete that, but gave it some thought and decided I really wanted the V8 rumble and torque without having to figure out turbo technology or spend too much time on a dyno figuring out how to get what I wanted, which was a V8 anyway. So pulled that swap and sold it for what I bought the whole car for.

Since then I've completely disassembled the car and put it on a homemade rotisserie. I've replaced some rusty panels, most notably the battery area and part of the firewall, one of the tool boxes, and part of the rear tray. The floors were a little beat up but pretty solid overall so I installed Bad Dog front and rear frame rails. Fabricated a mount system for a F-Body gas tank, which has it's own thread. I stripped the underside of the car to bare metal and am in the process of coating that now.

I've been collecting parts for a while as well. I picked up a '98 LS1 with about 87k on it. I have the JCI mounts and headers. A nice Griffin 4 row aluminum radiator. A MN12 from a GTO that has bad 3-4 synchro that I'll rebuild.

I'm also going with the TTT R230 rear end setup. Waiting on those parts to arrive in the mail any day now, along with an AZC coilover set. Already have the r230 and all associated parts out of a Z32TT.

At this point, I'm not too far off from dropping the car back on the ground. I'm trying to do all that I can while it is up in the air but not sure how far I can go on the suspension while it's on it's side. Maybe the control arms and diff mount, potentially the coilovers but I'm not sure I can weld I the camber plates with the car so high up on the rotisserie. Definitely want to get the brake lines and fuel lines back in first.

As for the cars intended purpose. It will be primarily a street car. I'll find some time for autoxing, but I don't care about being competitive so I'll just run in whatever class they let me. But for me it's more about the build than the completion. Something to do with the spare time I don't even have. As my signature points out, this car will get done when it gets done, and not a minute sooner.

Hey Guys. I have a LS1 from a 2002 SS Camero, but the shop that sold me the motor/tranny didn’t sell me the intake. I’ve been looking for a decent used one and the prices are crazy. I plan on running the motor stock as a daily driver. I’m in GA. Finally got the engine in with CXracing mounts. Any help or direction for an intake mani is appreciated… street machines offers $699 for a complete ls6 but it still has no TB. Seems steep but eBay seems no better and FB guys have been flaky or really far away.

Hey there, there's no genV forum, so I assume this is the right spot.

I'm getting started on swapping an L83 out of a 2017 Silverado into my '77 280z. Progress will be slow as I'm working on a masters away from the car right now, but I figured I'd post what I've gotten so far. Info seems pretty scarce on these engines as well, so maybe someone will find it helpful.

I'll be keeping the engine stock and mating it with a T56.

Here is what I'm starting with:

Here is the engine and transmission, T56 is out of an 06 GTO. The L83 is a bit weird and the crankshaft is not meant to accept a manual transmission so requires a 3/8" spacer on the bellhousing (not shown, but where the gap between tranny and bellhouwing is. Apparently leaving that out will result in a broken block 😕

Hi. I know the title is pretty long but I’m going to be doing a 350 swap on my 260z and I’ve been reading the v8 swap Manual by jtr and they have a lot of helpful info. There’s one thing I’m having a hard time finding and that’s the correct tail housing for my 700r4 with the jtr trannys cross member. It says to use 8673406 tail housing. And this piece is a absolute mystery. No info on it besides a few corvette forms that some guy mentioned it ONCE. Besides that there is nothing. I did however find a alternate p/n for it. And that’s 24214689. But again. NOTHING on it either. I do however find a lot of info on tail housing 8673409 and it looks really similar to what I see in the jtr book and seems to do what I need. I just want to know if maybe in the book it was a mistake and should of been a 9 instead of a 6 on the p/n. If p/n 8673406 does exist can it be subbed with 8673409. What are their differences? Thank you.

The early CTS-V T56 have an odd shifter location way further back from a normal T56.
Have any of you used one of these in a swap and used the direct bolt in shifter location (further forward) and corrected that with an offset shifter to the rear?

I found a company that claimed to put the shifter in the stock T56 location but now for the life of me I can't find it. Still looking.

I guess the question is...have any of you used this t56 and what shifter did you use or did you change the tail housing route?

New to hybridZ, new to the v8 swap. I've got a 1974 260z with original transmission, swapped l28 triple webers.

Is there a kit or conversion for the oem 260z transmission to work with 'any' crate motor v8's, LS options?

The plan is to swap motors and use the original transmission, if I'm able to. Appreciate any feedback and help!

Video shows symptoms. Drove the Z to a friend's house, camped out in it overnight, used the battery to run a fan. Battery wept and humidity made a lot of corrosion underneath, but the wires are good.

Tried jumping it with another V8 before swapping battery, to no avail.

Bought a new battery and swapped it out, same symptoms.

Tried starting in P and N.

Need to get multimeter out of storage to do more testing.

As you can see from the video, it builds rail pressure in between 20 and 40 PSI, but then just keeps looping that. It never stops priming and never reaches the desired number. The engine never turned over and the starter always clunks. It feels like it's being stopped by something that isn't the starter or motor though. Fuel pump is in-line/out of tank.

Absolutely no symptoms from starter or fuel pump prior to this, car was running well. FiTech is showing no codes but I have a battery disconnect switch that I use every time I park so it probably won't be showing codes.

Has anyone come across anything like what the video shows?

While searching around for fans to cool the LS3 swap I came across two good possibilities.

C7 Corvette 600w fan with integrated pwm controller

2008 Ford Fusion fan and pwm controller

Could not find the exact size/dimensions of these fans so noted the radiator dimensions. Also got to thinking of just swapping the compete Rad/fan setup from either of these cars.

	C7 Corvette is 17.25x18.5x1

	Fusion 17x25.75x1

These are single core radiators! Is it advisable to use a single core in the S30 chassis? Always thought the more cores the better in radiators. How times have changed!

CX Racing has a nice 3 core 18.5x25x2.5 for under $200 made for the S30 chassis which very similar in size to the Fusion radiator so it's fan should fit well.

the 280zx doesn't seem to get any attention from parts manufactures when it comes to LS swaps. it took a lot of work to get mine done and I know who ever else has it done had to do the same. im just curious to see how many are out there and id love to see the different things people have done to get past certain road blocks such as mounts and headers. I know I had a lot of issues with mounts and oil pans and especially headers. if I can help with any issues I am more than happy to share my build. I modified JTR motor and trans mounts for a SBC to work with my LS. I used a stupid expensive oil pan from canton to get the motor low enuff. it has a very shallow front sump to clear the pwr steering rack. headers I originally used a manifold on driver side and block hugger on pass. side. now I have Billy Boat shorty headers for a c5 that I still had to modify. again, please post yours. how many of us are there?

My Ls1 is getting completely rebuilt due to having an oil consumption issue (worn rings). It's basically stock aside from intake, headers and a 2.5" exhaust. The engine builder wants to know what cam I want. I've contacted four places and I've yet to hear a response (supply chain issues?). I see Jegs and summit both have cams in stock if their websites are to be believed. The problem is, I can't read a cam spec to save my life so I'm looking for recommendations (and part numbers?).

The car is just a nice weather street cruiser so I would prioritize a fat midrange above peaky high rpm power. I have stock valve springs too but I'm willing to swap them out as needed. Also its a t-56 manual trans.

	Thanks for any recommendations!
