  1. but you can remove the same stuff from an SR car and still be much lighter The problem is not with his car, it's with me I'm just not a straight-line guy, so I'm not going to appreciate it as much as some others. It is still fine work and very very clean. And the fact that you mentioned turbos adds a little more factor to it... P.S. You can't change weight distribution and moment of inertia with suspension settings sorry, just more cylinder envy I guess
  2. holy crap, Austin, that looks incredible How much to paint my S13?
  3. nope. Maybe 5 more HP stock, but I have yet to see an RB20 make more power than an SR20 for similar mods. agreed. I hate the freaking floating rocker arms. I still don't know what Nissan was thinking... not that big a deal... BULLPLOP. This is a misconception on the level of "more backpressure equals more torque" Same displacement, same amount of air moved. Four 500cc pulses every 180 degrees, or six 333cc pulses 120 degrees apart, doesn't matter. Two liters of mass flow is two liters of air, period. It won't spool a bigger turbo faster, it won't make more power, it won't do anything except operate smoother, sound better, and weigh more. And I have yet to see a stock-bottom-end RB20 make 500+wHP on stock internals, much less four of them... It's significantly more than that. There are enough RB swaps in town to know that it cracks the three-digit mark. Put the RB20 on NICO and get a better engine from the money it gets you.
  4. I like the idea of the HybridZ.org flag on the top of Mt. Fuji!
  5. you criticize Bush and play down Clinton's perjury... what will it take to remind you that Clinton was a sleazebag too? Different end of the spectrum, same old politician BS. Don't forget he bombed Iraq during Ramadan coincidentally at the same time his impeachment proceedings were occuring. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH, all you liberals ever do is complain. In case you didn't notice in Nov 2004, but you're in the minority in this country. That said, I fail to see how Phil1934 is connecting the Bush Administration to the fact that the media (traditionally left-slanted) leaked Khan's name. As the one senator implied, if the information was withheld, they'd have accused the administration of playing political games. But they gave some information, then the media ran with it, dug up a name, outed the name, and killed the "in" they had with al-qaida. I'm not trying to defend George 2, I just get sick and tired of seeing the whiny-*** liberals blame the right for everything, and then seeing all the living-in-a-bubble conservatives think they never make mistakes.
  6. the only SBC I'd bother with is an LS1 as the others are too heavy, and even an LS1 is too friggin' big to me. It's a very, very clean swap with TONS of attention to detail. But unfortunately I don't like it. It'll make the car too nose-heavy, and you could have more power AND torque at the wheels by boosting a stock-bottom-end KA24DE. For an SR, 300wHP and 300wTQ are almost a non-event.
  7. What, all you guys ever do is go in a straight line? It's a big deal if the heavy engine doesn't have a significant increase in power, and it will noticeably throw off the way the car handles dynamically. mpg can't be used to judge an engine, mpg is heavily reliant on transmission gear ratios, final drive, and vehicle weight. Put a second stupid-high overdrive on any engine and it'll get good economy on the highway. And when is specific output "baloney"? It tells a lot about the amount of engineering that went into an engine and how well that engine is designed. Then again, a high specific output engine that is still too small doesn't do anyone any good Leave it to GM to make up some baloney formula to make it look like they can build something well. The modular Ford engine looks big because it has DOHC heads. True, the center of gravity is marginally higher, but the ability of those heads to flow significantly more air is a much larger benefit than the problem of the raised Cg. Of course, you can't really compare those two engines in a DOHC-vs-OHV argument since neither of them is what would be called a top-notch design. Add to that the fact that mpg of the LS_ engines would be significantly less with a normal transmission. incorrect. You can't judge this just because the engine is smaller. My little factory forced-induction 2-liter 4-banger has a wider powerband than a stock NA LS1. It doesn't make as much power or torque, but it weighs about 100 lbs less. Only 5 gears, but a shorter rear end, lighter car, etc. Too many factors to judge. Well said excellent! We have a winner. You guys have gone from comparing engines to comparing whole cars. To simply look at the engine vs engine, all you need is displacement, a dyno graph, and a weight. HP/L, TQ/L, powerband, HP/LBS, can all be found from that. To decide what to use in a car... well that requires a whole new set of variables, most of which are focused more on budget and the car's use than the engine itself.
  8. you also have to realize that most "import magazines" are more hype than substance. Dave Coleman's SR-powered S13 can't even put down 300wHP with a top-dollar GT28RS turbo and thousands in power mods, and most people can get 300wHP from a used T28 and a retuned ECU. The big-dog RB26s are in the 900wHP+ range, how many L28s are there at 900wHP? Plus... there is no way in hell you can tell me that a side-flow 2-valve head is capable of making more power than a crossflow 4-valve head.
  9. For what it's worth, an SR20DET is about 130-150 pounds lighter than an RB25DET or RB26DETT...
  10. jeez, I hope that guy is OK.
  11. RB20 into a Z32? WEAK. Nose-heavier and slower than a stock VG30DETT Z32. Might as well swap in an SR20 with the same power potential and 130 less pounds. Why anyone puts an RB20 into anything is beyond my comprehension... Grab the engine/trans for free, sell it on eBay to some bandwagon-jumping 240SX assclown, and use the $$$ for something else
  12. what is it there, rondalboy! bwahaha, you can't escape anyways, I can't think of anything cool to say. There's plenty of people who already have explored the potential of the KA-T. The SR is lighter and can handle as much power on stock internals as most mildly-built KAs. Ironically, I'm also sick of hearing about it, and I even own one! Stupid trend-jumping magazine monkeys...
  13. 2nd nose-heaviest Miata swap ever?
  14. There is no Infiniti in Japan. So just ship us lots and lots of Nissan stuff the only one worth bothering with is the S15 HLSD, the VLSDs from the Silvia/180SX are the same as the ones available in the US, except the JDM ones need JDM halfshafts or USDM j30 halfshafts. And definately make sure you have the output shafts for the S15 diff! "Type-X" is just a trim level, there is nothing different about those calipers compared to any other S13 caliper. There is no point in spending the money for JDM S13 calipers when you can do bigger brakes from USDM cars for less money and hassle wrong. Spec-S is NA, Spec-R is turbo. The cast divider wall is in manual transmission S15s, the non-wall turbo is from an automatic model. Both work fine, since most people get aftermarket turbo elbows anyway. Go to the junkyards and get plenty of S13 and S15 headlights Look for S13 turn signals too, the USDM ones are all amber and the JDM are half amber and half clear, much nicer looking. You can probably grab a set of turn signals for $10 and sell them to someone in the US for $75 shipped. If you can find late-model ("kouki") 180SX rear taillights, they go for $550-$650 new in the US (be sure to get the metal trim panel as well... so 4 pieces in all).
