  1. I plan on purchasing a schneider cam' date=' and possibly a component kit to go with it. does anyone know where to get oem style rocker arms? or even just a whole kit such as springs, retainer, rocker arms, and lash pads? im goin to buy AZ's stainless valves.

And i called up redline weber and they have 45 DCOE's in stock, webers and OER's, any recomendations? i like the looks of the webers better but ill spend 500 more for them.[/quote']

I'm getting my Schneider cam through MSA, they sell a cam "kit" with everything including cam for $569 at least for my turbo cam, N/A might be cheaper.

If your building an L28 go with 40's, if your going to stroke your motor and set it up more for the track then go 45's.

You should look into the Redline Weber Injection, it's individual throttle bodies, and comes with ECU, DIS, everything. It's currently being tested on the MSA track car and there hasn't been a release date or pricing info as of yet...

  2. Really... Welcome To My World.

    Hey Jamie,

Well I'm taking the plunge. Last time we talked you were making a custom oil pan. How is that coming, did your business get off the ground yet? See I knew I would get back in the game.

Speed costs, how much power do you want equals how much money do you have in the bank to spend it on...

  3. which head are you going to use and (P90?) and what will your C:R be? why did you pick the HKS 2mm head gasket. Also why did you get the schnider 460 270 cam. How much boost are you going to be running? just wondering.

    Rock on Z people

    Matt-

    Matt,

Yea I have a complete early L28ET F54/P90. I went with the 2mm head gasket with flat top pistons and depending on the over bore will yield 7.99:1 - 8.16:1. Max boost I would like is 25 pounds, with 10-15 on the street.

My goal is to have the boost kick in around 3500rpm and to be an all around street, drag, and autocross Z. I called around to all the manufacturers and from what research I did Schneider is what people are using and are happy with it. I called Schneider direct and told the guy what I wanted to do with the 240Z and that is his recommendation. I went to MSA site (they use Schneider cams) and they had it listed and in stock. It is $5 cheaper through MSA and I don't have to wait a week to have Schneider make it.

Tomorrow will be the first of many big smack downs on parts. First is everything I need to get the motor reassembled. Next will be the rest of the goodies...

    Joe

  4. so why again can you not to the RB swap?

I know it doesn't make sense I'm already at the cost of what a stock RB26, SDS, intercooler, trans, injectors, would cost.

I have so many L parts, I want to go this route. I know I will be happy. With the weight of the 240Z and if I reach my 400RWHP goal what's the point...

However, my '79 810 is eyeballing an RB wouldn't that be a sleeper.

For now she is getting a suspension make over Koni/Bilstein/Quickor. L28 (up from the L24) and a 5 speed conversion...

  5. so this list of parts you posted you already have?

  6. Well after scrapping the RB idea as it would have killed my budget and the Trust twin turbo kit not fitting as it's made for a RHD (It's for sale now check classifieds), I'm back to using the parts and motor that I have had on hand for the last 5 years.

Well this is what I have so far to get me started. My goal is for 400RWHP.

Fabrication will be done by Tempest Racing http://tempestracing.com in Waldorf MD.

Questions, comments feel free to fire away. I will be ordering all the rebuild parts this week from MSA i.e. gasket set, timing chain kit, cam, ARP fasteners to name a few...

I'm so stoked to get this started FINALLY!!!

I will get pics of the motor when I dropped it off at the machine shop uploaded tonight..

  7. Clint,

Have you asked for a realistic timeline, if there is such a thing? Is he overwhelmed with work or just plain slow? Did you run him through BBB to see if any complaints were filed?

I would say talk with him calmly express your concerns. Point out that this whole ordeal has been turned into a long drowned out process with no end in sight.

Here is the hook: Tell him your getting orders and are departing in X time and need it finished. That should put a fire under him.

If not, if there is no one else to help you in AK, you can always get another chassy and start over. A nice RHD fairlady would be nice or Ken Mary. Thank god it wasn't a RHD to begin with...

  8. I was wondering the kit would fit onto a 280 turbo motor with a 240 head in a Left hand drive 260z. And which kit is the best to get as far as flow and spool. Thanks

    Kris~

    Kris,

I have it mounted on a 280ZX Turbo engine now. The only issue may be the clearance with the front turbo's downpipe and the steering rack. I bought my kit from Japan but never installed it in my Z since I'm going with another motor setup. You would also want to use the P90 head from the turbo engine as the E31/E88 (240Z) is for a n/a configuration. From what I hear when tuned right you can make 350-400hp quite easy.

I will be listing mine on Ebay in a few days and won't be asking much. It might be something to consider if you have some fabrication skills or know someone who does. Just a thought..

  9. I have purchased an RB26DETT. I should have it after the new year. I'm getting some 272 cams with it also. I'm stoked! I've been back and forth with engine choices for my latest project. I was going to use the LT1 and 6 spd from my Z28. I'm proud to have chosen to go with the RB26. I've joined the RB26DETT yahoo group also. I've been in contact with Matt, and Rick Wong. I'm getting valve springs from Matt and some motor mounts from Rick. I'll have the OEM type mounts also. Just letting you guys know I'm here. I'll also be developing parts for the RB as well.

Me too. I'm lining up getting mine and all the parts. Shiro is sold down to one Z.

Time to finish and have some damn fun for once....

  10. I am selling this kit because I have several different turbo kits from japan. I don't plan to use it so I put it up for sale. I have test fitted it on my z and it fits, but I think fabricating the down pipe will be the greatest task. Remeber several styles of these kits were manufactured in Japan, yes this is an orginal. Some will not fit, due to the lenght of the runners or other reasons, however this one can. I have several books that provide information about these kits, so knowledge in hand is better than speculating. Well, I hope this will clear up the rumor. Thanks Guys

That is the same problem I ran into with mine. Manifold fits but the front turbos downpipe has no where to go because of the steering shaft. Well I hope yours sells, mine will be up on there shortly after. You don't happen to have any scanned copies of that book that you can send me? I'm interested in what it looked like in a Z, in Japan back in the day.

  11. not bad for an old man. How the heck have you been, you can't email anyone? Congrats on the dyno run. Definitely post or send me the graph and video. How long before you PCS, going back to Oki I take it?

My 240Z TT is getting closer but a ways from completion. Drop me a line....

  12. I wonder if your plenum will flow with my 90mm throttle body? :-D

Joe' date=' I can change the plenum volume and shape to whatever you desire. I do not know whether having a 90mm TB will buy you much, but I can make a 90mm work on the intake.[/quote']

Well, you know I have to be different. However, when I'm ready, I'll get in touch with you. Keep us posted with the dyno numbers. Is anyone stepping up to the plate yet?? TTYL

  13. He is still alive. I see the twin Greddy TDO6 17C's are doing well. Will it sit on a stand forever or will it actually run? :?

She will run one day. We are putting a swimming pool in this summer. Our house has been top priority. Garage w/ lift goes in first of next year. I got tired of it sitting in a box so I had to mount it on my turbo motor. I wonder if your plenum will flow with my 90mm throttle body? :-D

  14. Stony,

I miss those days. Running or I should say walking from the JPs not getting arrested unless you were stupid to run, like if you had something to hide. The whole system, flashing lights when the JPs are coming or honking your horn. emo.gif

I think when you retire if you pursue the importing business I among others will be great contributers.

I asked Sean at Moterx about importing a 2 door Hakosuka and I said I will go there and by it and all you have to to is ship it. It will be DOT and EPA exempt so no problem. 2 months later no reply. weird.gif

I think he knows he can't make any money but all I need is crate space and I'm willing to pay for that. If life after the military is good to me I may even go and get my GT-R. But my twin turbo Z is the priority. Project will be starting Summer 03 after the garage w/ the lift is in rockon.gif
