Originally I was building a pretty stout L28et and had purchased both the drivers side Naca duct and regular passenger side vent from a 280ZX being parted with the intent to weld onto my stock 240Z hood. I had the sellers cut a little extra metal border so that I could retain the factory beveled contour and weld these in to look flush and as if the factory had made it. about half way through plans changed and I sold all my L engine parts and went with a Toyota 2JZGTE which has the turbo and intake on opposing sides. I think the 280ZX style ducted/vented style hood would be beneficial for all L series engines (turbo or NA) allowing cooling air on the drivers side in and at slow to idling speeds venting out hot trapped air on the passenger side.  Just my 2 cents worth...

So a 280zx vented hood on the S30. Maybe with the 2 vents for the sake of symmetry.

  2. Everyone who might be looking at this thread please keep in mind this is some input I am getting for a manufacturer. I am not making any hoods myself in my garage or making some one off hood in a body shop. Hood ideas of what you would like or feel would best suite the car dont need to be existing hoods for the S30, they can even be other designs you have seen on other cars.

Single piece carbon or fiberglass layup with integrated competition scoop...

  4. Hey everyone just looking for some input on what you guys would like to see on a hood. As we all know the Z market is hotter than ever so I am conducting a little market research as to what you guys would like. Louvered, Cowl, Ram air ducts, etc. If you guys have any pictures of hoods on other cars as examples that would be much appreciated too.

Want to thank everyone in advance for any input given.

  5. Seibon products are a fiberglass backed carbon fiber. So the skin of the hood is carbon fiber with a fiberglass structure underneath. They do not make a hatch for the Z, just the hood.

The first names that come to mind are Benchmark Composites as linked above,

Then retro spec at like $800ish and also Seibon at like $850 if I remember right. I have seen issues with seibon with it not lining up correctly or there being enough flex that it's noticeable.

I've never heard or anything bad about Benchmark.

  6. Rooger, just wondering if anything ever came of this?  I'd love to see some pics of the Histrix in your car!

KevvinG, Unfortunately I have long since sold the car and I am starting on a new project. They did make these available again though so hopefully we will start seeing them more often.

  7. Noting that this thread is over a year old, do any of you know a dealer, distributor, reputable Z fanatic in the Chicago area? Or one who ships to the Chicago area. I live in the suburbs of Chicago (Plainfield to be exact)  and have had quite a bit of trouble finding one. My biggest worry is I'm gonna end up spending way too much on a hood for it to be shipped cross country and someone is gonna run off with my money via a paypal scam.

    Thanks for the help!

If this is considered thread jacking or isn't allowed feel free to delete just give me a heads up :D

You can always call Seibon directly to order it if you are worried about purchasing it from someone online.

  8. Yea me too. Unfortunately it's usually in the same state I left it in when I left the night before:)

Making progress. Lot's of little things to take care of. Probably fire it off next week some time.

If you somehow find it in a finished state when you get up then we can finally say that this build has consumed you enough to where your even started sleep wrenching.

It will be a momentous occasion when this thing is finally running. I am just going to take the day off work and play the video on repeat all day.

  9. I checked into the Feal's..... I could not source an S30 product on their site.  What have you found in the Feal product line?

It is not listed on their website but it is something they have made before. It is pretty funny I had talked to Odi Bakchis (owner/formula d driver) about the coilovers at SEMA. He said it was crazy how someone inquired about making one for an S30, then after that it was posted on a forum and he was getting a bunch of requests. So now they get orders on a regular basis but are not even listed anywhere.

So give them a call and they should be able to give you a price and some info.

  10. So I have decided on the turbo route instead of doing an N/A build. Having trouble finding a stock L28ET motor that hasn't already been built by someone else.

If someone can point me in the right direction to someone, hopefully in the Los Angeles County, that has a motor for sale that would be highly appreciated.

I really don't want to go the route of buying it from one of the engine resellers online for 2-3 times what the street value is.

Its ok if it doesn't have a harness, manifolds, turbo, and etc. And preferably something not already built up.

I am frequently on during the weekdays so I should respond quickly.

I haven't really set a budget on this so please show me what you have, but again I am looking for something bare bones.

    Thank you
