Those are are pretty sick. But the track days I go to require your window to be fully down unless it's raining.
-
Do the master cylinder out of an '81 280zx. It has a 15/16 bore. That's what I am using and I have AZ Brakes front and rear. Pedal is high and firm. Also get an adjustable prop valve for the rears to get the brake bias dialed in
-
Yea I know that but I still need to be able to use all the door internals including the window and being able to roll it up when it's rain or when it's cold out when not on the track. I do have some ideas but need to get the doors back on the car.
-
Well got a lot done in the few hours I got to work on the car. Got all the strut towers cut and camber plates welded in. The fronts have to be welled from the top so that the adjusters on the coilovers clear the hood. Also got the coilover sleeves/mounts welded to the knuckles. I must say that the difficulty for install is not for everyone. But sure looks and fits nice once all done up.
Enjoy
Front camber plates
Rear camber plates
Knuckles all welded up

Those are nice. I really don't want to cut up my stock doors do to the car is going to be driven to and from the track. Also going to be doing track days in the rain.

She's coming along nicely.

So the other night when I said I was going to start welding up the camber plates and coilovers I broke my welder. So never got a chance to do it. Well got the welder back up and running. So got the rear main hoop supports tacked in and got the windshield tie ends in and welded up. Then cut down the 280z strut housings so I can weld my coilovers to them.
Enjoy
before cutting up the 280z struts
After cutting. More to come in the later morning. Bed time for now

Nice work! Nice looking cage. Are you going to do all the final welding as well? From what I saw of your other welds you're a good welder.
How much to do a cage in my Z? Seriously, I have two Z's that need a full SCCA cage. I'm a long days drive from you. I can take care of the transportation. I might be able to bring a third car your way.
Yes I am doing all the welding and building the car from start to finish. I would love to do a cage for you as well but I have a second kid on the way so it's gonna be tough getting into the garge once he/ she has arrived. ( dont know the sex yet). Also before I said yes I want to make sure it passes tech. I have got the lower windshield bar braces welded in and the rear main hoop braces tacked into place. Still need to do the diagonal bar and haness bar and door bars. Not sure on what to do w/ the door bars do to I am going to be driving this car to and from the track. No trailer princess for this guy.
John C. If you could give me some ideas on door bars would be most appreciated
Also I will add some more pics tonight

I got the Megan's from Mckinny motor sports. I don't remember how much they were. I think they were about $1400 shipped. They came with the weld on strut tubes and weld on camber plates. Once I get the car dialed and fast w/ L28 I am going to pull the motor and drop a 347 stroker w/ aluminum heads in it.
-
Today got my coilovers. They are the Megan/Mckinny
Last night got the rest of all the plates cut out for the roll cage. Going to start welding them all tonight

Got home today and the brown truck finally dropped off my seat. It's verbs since feb 9 since I ordered the seat. It is an Ultrashield pro race. All I have to say is that this seat fits perfectly into place.
Now to build some mounts and tie ends once I get the harness bar and diagonal bat on the main hoop in.
Enjoy

We're working with NCRC to rent out an entire run group. My buddy decided to have a track day as his bachelor party. I will have to give other people rides already unless I get in on another run group. Bill needs to clear me for Open group anyway so that might be a possibility. We'll see when the time gets closer. Would you have another car drive or maybe even Bill's car if he goes? And if you could tell Bill also. Would be nice to meet up with him again.
Anytime there is a driving school at the NCRC at Thunderhill Bill will be there. He is an official instructor now. I got the time off so I will be there. I won't be driving Unfortunatly unless I can race the Jeep. LMAO!!! That would be a sight!!

Only of the roll cage. This one is the start to finish build.

Took a break on the cage yesterday. Was having a hell of a time with the halo bar. Could not get the notch right if my life depended in it. So tore down my 300zx tranny and a old Blowen 4 speed so I could get the bell housing off the machine shop.
So this morning went for it again and got it on the first try. Figures.
Here are the pics.
'86 300zx tranny
All torn down
Bell housing on the right is the one to be machined.

(help) Manual Transmission conversion
in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z

Use the search bar. There is tons of info for the conversion. Yes all l28 manual trannys will bolt right in. And yes it comes out from the bottom of the car. You will need a manual pedal box, clutch master, slave cylinder, line from clutch master to slave cylinder clutch kit and flywheel pos starter, and of course tranny with mount.
