  1. SpencZ, I'm thinking if these rockers are for real, they would make a 3.4 V6 60' even more of a sleeper!( with an ATI ProCharger of course). WoW, the more I surf and search, the more I find! Sell that 383 and come over to the 3.4. It will be fun. Mark ------------------
  2. I came across this site while looking for 60' V6 sites. Looked interesting, take a peek for yourselves. www.hotrocker.com/index.html ------------------
  3. Hey SpencZ, are you back yet? Haven't heard from you in a while. This thread sure took off. Any luck in selling the 383 parts? I would like to see the parts for sale section a little clearer for those who and buy. Mark ------------------
  4. Folks, I was just kidding about Twin ProChargers! Couldn't resist the insanity! Since I'm not building a drag car there will be no need for a automatic=(people who can't shift) and I'm going lite weight remember? BLKMGK, do you think the D-series or the P-series ProCharger would be best for a 3.4 V6 SFI 5 speed? Producing boost with no load would be great! John Scott, you're thoughts are welcome also. Mark ------------------
  5. Hey SpencZ, In addition to the weight savings you'll get with the 3.4 V6. Look into using a WC T-5 like Jim Biondo uses in his 565+ HP sbc Z, built by Liberty Gears. It weighs 75lbs vs. 125lbs for the T-56. Thats a 50lb. savings! and it can be had with a over-driven 5th gear. See the Transmission/T-5,Tremec or T-56 area. P.S. It's cheaper too! Mark ------------------
  6. Hey John Scott and BLKMGK, Is it possible to run twin Prochargers... Couldn't resist the insanity... Mark ------------------
  7. Oh man, I LOVE the insanity!!! ...Mark
  8. Hey John Scott, The crank in your 4.3 is it forged? What type of prep do you recommend? A new cast factory crank should handle up to 7000 RPM less rotating mass and all. I know the sprint car boys rev up to 8000! But their using forged units. I agree with you that the bottom end should be as strong as possible, no penny-pinching. ------------------
  9. WoW! This sure turned into a great thread! SpencZ, custom pistons don't cost an arm or leg, remember you only need six! As for the Aluminum block, 3 Grand is a lot of money just to save 47lbs! Th 3.4 iron block should be plenty strong and lite enough. While Twin Turbo's would be KILLER, it would also spell BIG DOLLARS. Like Scottie said, if you want to use a stick you're better off with a supercharger. BLKMGK, ask your friend what the P600B with the 12 rib pulley and all the trimmings would cost and does he sell the intercoolers also. John Scott, thanks for the great input. Ok folks, lets keep it coming and see how far we can take this. Mark ------------------
  10. BLKMGK, I'd like to know what kind of pricing the ProCharger P600 or D1 would be from your friend the dealer. The power to weight potential would be amazing and affordable. Imagine the look on the faces of all those Ruststangs, F-bodies and Rice-burners after you open the hood! Mark ------------------
  11. Ain't it cool! Forged pistons at say 7.5 to 1 may have to be custom made, companies like JE, BRC and others can do this for a modest price. The prices for a low mileage 3.4 from tacreationsusa.com are killer! The 60' 3.4 V6 maybe the best kept sleeper motor out there to date. 12. SpencZ, The stock SFI intake has a throttle-body at the front ala LT1. So adapting a Procharger shouldn't be much of a problem. I don't like carbs... SFI is soooo much better. With a little port matching and larger injectors it should work fine. To see some picks of a factory SFI intake check out the Windstorm link I posted earlier. Mark ------------------
  13. Welcome back SpencZ! As for HP #'s, from those I've spoken to and sites I've seen, 250-300 HP is pretty easy without forced-induction. So doubling that with a good single or twin turbo or Procharger thats intercooled should be attainable. Have you checked out the sites that Scottie-GNZ and I have posted in this thread? I'm thinking a 3.4 iron block with four bolt mains, forged crank, sbc rods, Gen III aluminum heads, Forged 7.5 to 1 pistons, roller cam, headers ( need to find somebody who makes these), reworked stock SFI with larger injectors and/or throttle-body, Twin Turbo w/intercooler or a Procharger w/intercooler. I would prefer a T-56 or WCT-5. Again welcome back and remain patient. Mark
  14. Scottie-GNZ, That was me who posted the link to that Wicked 510! Twin Turbo SFI on a 2.8 V6! The 3.4 60' V6 is the base engine in all late model camaro/firebirds. Most of them come with T-5's, so an aftermaket T-56 could be used. The 60' V6 is perfectly balanced having a 120'firing stroke plus 60' block this means that the only reason for a balancer or torsional Damper as it's called, is to show timing marks and/or a crank fired ignition! This engine is balanced internally! As for weight, the cast iron block weighs 106 lbs! The aluminum "priority main feed" block comes in at 59 lbs. Late model F-bodies use the aluminum heads that have good flow numbers, roller cam good to 6000 RPM and a fairly free breathing SFI intake! All stock! The connecting rods are good to about 7000 RPM with some work or you can use sbc con rods if you bush the piston end as per the Chevy Power Factory Book. Forged cranks are available thru companies like Scat, Crower, Callies etc... Check out the GM performance Catalog and aftermaket sites. Here are a couple of sites I've run across. www.s-series.org/htm/windstorm/project-windstorm.htm www.greenwoodchevy.com/partsmain.htm ------------------ [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited June 29, 2000).]
  15. While peeling through the current Chevy performance catalog, I noticed that Chevy sells some HP parts for the 60' V6, not a lot of parts, but more than I expected. Chevy even makes an Aluminum block and heads for this bowtie. After surfin the web all night, I've discovered that there is a fair amount of speed equipment made for this engine. Suppose, just suppose that you added a Turbo or a ATI supercharger to say a 60' 3.4 V6 ? This combination would be incredibly lite and would add considerably to the Z's already great handling. And last, but not least, it would be inexpensive and different. This engine can be found in late model F-bodies. Ok Folks, time to speak up! Update on my current ride, suspension rebuild and mods, electrical glitches and body work, LOTS of sanding and filling. I still have not decided on what engine/transmission. I'm not a hard core Drag racer and I like twisty roads. This is and will remain a daily driver. 16. I've got to admit, Turbo V6's are BAD! Here are a couple of sites that should spark some interest. www.drwtransmission.com/gnpage.htm www.conleyracing.com/cppmainframe.htm www.beaversprings.com/profile/dgrubb.html P.S. Scottie-GNZ you'll love these... ------------------ [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited June 28, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited June 28, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited June 28, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited June 28, 2000).]
  17. Does anyone run a Richmond 5 or 6 speed? If not, would it fit? I've been told they will handle 500+ ft,lb torque. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited June 22, 2000).]
  18. Mikelly, VR Engineering sells a spyder kit for the Z, plus a manual. ------------------

    TKO???

Has anyone here used a Richmond 5 or 6 speed before? If so, anyone currently running one in their Z? How was the installation? ------------------
  20. Hey John Scott, what's the web address for Burt Chevy? ------------------
  21. Found this site the other day, let's swamp them with requests to make an IRS kit for the Z! Tell me what you think boys and girls? www.constantvelocity.com/ P.S. Some of the links are unfinished since it's still under construction. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited June 06, 2000).]
  22. I must admit after surfing some of the GN and Syclone sites I'm impressed! Turbo's have come along way! I like the idea of having a V8 killer and Boost seems to be the answer. Scottie, will a T-56 mate to a Buick 3.8? Does your GNZ use SFI? How hard was it to setup? John Scott, how goes the T-56 install? I'm currently trying to get my 72' weatherproof, anyone know where I can get a set weatherstriping for my doors and hatch? Motorsports seems way expensive. Keep up the good work! ------------------
  23. It's not a Z, but I think you'll like it! Who said small motors can't make BIG power! Check it out! www.bryanf.com/mycars/510V6.htm ------------------ [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited May 24, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited May 24, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Z-Dreamer (edited June 06, 2000).]
  24. After reading the threads about IRS vs Solid axle and talking to alot of racers, I've decided to with a setup similar to MikeKz's but with progressive rate springs. This should provide all the strength and handling, not to mention a vastly greater selection of gear ratio's and wheel sizes. I love the pic's at MikeKz's site and what he's done! More pic's Mike! I'd like to know how much you narrowed the 12Bolt and what brakes you used all around and how you installed them. ------------------
  25. SpencZ, I would think twice before spending the money on the Holly ProJection Di system, why you ask? well when I need my everyday rides worked on ( computer stuff and such ) I take them to the best shop I've found anywhere! It's called the Car Care Center in Sacramento, CA ( my home town ) This shop is the most highly trained, cleanest and honest shop I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with! Anyway, the owner and his son, who both host a Saturday morning radio program dedicated to automotive questions, both told me to steer clear of the ProJection Di system, claiming that they installed it on their shop truck and have had nothing but problems ever since. They claim that they've replaced the fuel pump three times and multiple injectors. They said that maybe they got a lemon and that Holly generally makes excellent products, but in the case of the Di systems, "Buyer beware". Keep up the good work! ------------------
