Make sure you don't have a bookmark or new tab page directing you straight to www.hybridz.org. I was getting a 404 error going through my new tab page.

It needs to be forums.hybridz.org now to direct you to the main page here.

Oh crap, I forgot to add that binding entry to the server.

    Should be fixed now.

  2. I have been testing the new server and forum software upgrade for a few weeks now and things have gone much better than I expected..

The move will start this coming Thursday morning 08-31-2017 and is expected to take about 6 hours to complete.

The site will be inaccessible during the move and upgrade

When the site becomes accessible again there are background rebuild process that will being running over the next few days to finalize the upgrade. Expect to see little glitches here and there during this time. Things like images disappearing, text formatting looking funny, search not working etc.

Once these processes are complete I will post a note about it a create a support thread so any issues you guys have can posted.

    Know Your Password

Make darn sure you know what your password is for your account and that your email address is up to date. DO THIS NOW!!! We cannot stress this enough.

You may be required to login to the new forum once the site is back up. We know most of you stay permanently logged into the site and may have forgotten your password so you need to take care of that now.*

Make Sure Your eMail Account is Current

Make sure your email is up to date. This is the only way the system and the admins can communicate with you. Its the ONLY way password resets can be performed. Make sure your spam filter is not blocking emails from hybridz.org.

This is very important because sending the admins requests to reset your password will most likely end up in the trash for security reasons. This is especially true if you send an email to an admin from an email account that is different than the one listed in your account profile.

    *Note about Facebook Login

Recently there has been an issue with user trying to use Facebook to login to HybridZ. This issue will be resolved with the new version of the forum software. It was a change to the Facebook API that is not compatible with our current forum software.

  3. Doing a copy paste to a site such as Summit racing results in the Forum redirecting to this POS advertiser. Can the Web administrators do something about this?

Yeah, it's not supposed to do that. I found a setting that should not have been on and turned it off. Might take a little while to take effect.

Doesn't the revenue from those ads help pay for the hosting?

    True.

I actually have Adblock disabled for Hybridz and several other sites that I use for free and enjoy.  Figure it's the least I can do...

Thank you. Even if you don't click on the links it still helps. It's the number of impressions per day that matters.
Since people have started using ad block our number of impressions has fallen over 50% and revenue per click is down to about %20 of what it was years ago.
This has been an issue for EVERY website owner with google ads.
Just an FYI, I will be upgrading the forum software early next year and it will require that you turn off adblock to access it.
  4. I should be more clear. yes there was a problem and I fixed about an hour ago. Have you seen any problems since then?

The reason I am asking is because the problem miles noted above is a pretty serious issue if it is still happening.

  5. Is the hosting company going to do the daily backups or will you have to find another hosting source?

Well, they are supposed to be doing it now but I do not and will not trust anyone else again to handle it.

I am doing them my self now and doing it the right way, changes backed up every 15 minuets with an infinite retention period.

Ill never let someone do this to us again.

  6. There was an interesting discussion on rear control arms that I was kinda hoping you'd chime in on. Hopefully Dan is able to recover all the lost info.

    Not a chance.

Our hosting company failed to restore or retain the daily incremental backups that we pay for.

A restore from a week ago is the best we got. I am little more happy about that than we they originally told me the only back they had was from a month ago.

    What we lost was.

1 weeks worth of forum posts, pm's, new user registrations etc.

1 month of uploaded files like pictures, attachments etc.

  7. This is inspiring me. We just picked up a 1980 Westifalia for cheap from a friend who did not have the time to mess with it.

Its actually in really good shape but that air cooled 65hp motor HAS GOT TO GO. :)

Biggest issue I see is trying to get a radiator in it without having to cut the front up and install a grill, runs coolant hoses etc.

  8. Sorry folks, I have been busy with some personal issues and have not been able to devote much time to some of the remaining issues on the forums.

Short version is that the problems you guys are seeing with google search results are because of the way the new forms urls, they are not the same as the ones that Google has indexed. I just submitted a new sitemap to google that should fix that shortly.

Second problem is the with email part of the software, sometimes it is not sending out password resets to some users. Looks like they are getting rejected as spam on SOME servers. I am still looking into that.

More importantly is that in about 3 weeks I will be moving the site to a new host. I will post up a notice before that happens. Suffice to say that I am pretty miffed about how our current provider handled our site problems that were clearly their fault for not keeping the OS security patches up to date and basically saying "oops, sorry, you need to rebuild your server. But if you need help we will only charge you $90 per hour"... whatever.

BTW I am still shopping around for a good hosting company if anyone has a suggestion. Right now I am looking at these guys, http://hostek.com/

    We need at least:

Windows with IIS 7 preferred but I can do Linux.

    Dual core proc

    4 GB memory

    100 GB drive space

    4 TB bandwidth

Please post any new problems that you encounter in this thread only.

    Thanks,

    Dan

  9. Sorry guys, been a little busy dealing with this and have not had a chance to post anything.

As John posted we had a security issue on the server and I have been going back and forth with our host about who is responsible for fixing it. After a lot of finger pointing they know I am right that this should have been their problem to fix because the software that was compromised was their control panel that they maintain security patches for but they basically refused and said I had to re provision (wipe-out/reload) the server and restore from backups.

Anyways, we are back up for the most part except for a few hiccups.

    1. The server is a little slow at times, still trying to hunt that down.

    2. Google search results in incorrectly formed urls that give you a 404 error. Working on that, I know what the problem is but have not been able to fix it so I am going to open a ticket and have someone else look at it.

If you like Tim are having a problem with the main page or any page for that matter it may be your browser cache, maybe dns cache but I doubt that.

If you are on Windows try:

    1. Open your browser to the page that is giving you the problem a do a "reload" not a "refresh" they are 2 different things. Most browsers you can do a ctrl+F5 to reload a page.

    2. Open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /flushdns
