I know this is a dumb question but how do you replace the battery ground on a z31? it looks like it goes into a grounding block with other grounds going into it, and it is coated in rubber.

The starter in my 82 crapped out, can I use the internals of a z31 starter to rebuild it? I have one sitting around.

yeah i bought a can of electrical contact cleaner and cleaned every connector i could find. my brake lights work now lol. but my starter took a crap so now i have to get a new one before i can test it out.

i have a gauge on my fuel rail and adjusted it to what was recommended in my service manual. also if i disconnect the fuel lines from the rail it fires up and idles then dies when it runs out of fuel.

how do i check the timing when it's not running? do i just hook up a timing light and crank it? and i disconnected the fuel pump relay and it fired up and died, so maybe too much fuel?

Ok i have searched all around these forums(probably not good enough) but i can't seem to get it running. I did a compression check and got around 140ish on all 6 cylinders. i used a spark tester and all 6 are getting good spark i installed a brand new fuel pump and regulator and am getting good fuel pressure. it cranks but it just won't start, it almost wants to fire but maybe it's out of time? oh yeah and when i pull the spark plugs there are soaked in fuel.

i traded a quad that i got for free for my 280zxt. the guy said it had starting problems and all it needed was a fuel pump and sending unit. started right up after that.
