Hood in primer:

Thanks for the info, the issues I saw seemed to be from drifting with modified pans and drag racing so that's inline definitely inline with your experience. Thanks again!

Jared have you seen anything other than dry sump or GTMotorsports for an oil pump upgrade? From what I've seen on the Titan forums and a few others the oil pump gear doesn't seem to last very long if the engine is pushed hard or the rod bearings lose pressure and spin? Any thoughts? Also there's a facebook group VK Nation you should check out/post your car on.
I haven't seen any upgrades other than those for the VK. I also haven't seen any oil pump failures in these engines. You don't always get the whole story on these failures over the internet, but my experience in seeing these engines every day, is the bearing failures that I've seen are in engines that were repeatedly allowed to run low on oil and/or were sludged from lack of regular oil changes. I reached out to techs I know from other dealers and only found one instance of a VK56 oil pump replacement. It was in a QX56 and due to a stuck pressure valve (not sold separately) causing too high oil pressure. My suspicion is the majority of cases you're seeing were from low oil levels, lack of maintenance, or oil pan modifications. I don't have a Facebook page or I would post there as well. Maybe I'll have the wife do it.

Some light throttle acceleration. Still no hood. Redneck style FTW.

At idle, it sounds like any Titan with exhaust.

First real drive ever after getting some bugs worked out.

Would I be able to trouble you for some clear under hood shots? I would like to use them as reference for mine, although what I've go planned is a bit different.
What precisely are you looking for?

Did you ever get a hood sorted out? If you did can you post pictures, I'm really interested. Thanks
For the hood, I ended up going the route of modifying an OE hood. I cut out the cowled section and raised it about an inch. Right now I need to finish some welding. I will post some pics of it when it gets closer to looking like a hood again.

Two steps forward and one step back. I need a degree more negative camber in the RF.

Making it go straight. -
i plan on doing a vk swap in my 77 280z,and i would like to know how u mounted it in.i know this isnt the same car but i figure all info could help.
I used a poly mount for some kind of BMW from Ireland Engineering, stock locations in the Z, and built mounts to connect all that to the VK56.

Here's an update. I know it's been a while, but life did get in the way of this build for a while.
Anyway, I had to redo the cooling system because the engine sits higher than the radiator in the car. Also, haven't had time to fix the speedo yet. I am back on the hood. Trying to make the air cleaners fit under a hood of some sort.
-
Just a quick update, I know it's been a while. Car is basically done except for the speedo(which is installed but not working, needs fixed), and the hood, which I'm building currently. New pics coming ASAP!

As the title says. Pinch the fiberglass by using large washers on the inside or cut an opening in the hood so that I can slide in a steel plate with nuts welded to the back side?
thanks,
Jared

Both of you email me and I'll help where I can.

Drove the car out of the garage today for the first time. Gave it a bath for the first time in two years. Now it's headed to work for exhaust, alignment, and ac refrigerant. More detailed pictures and hopefully a better movie are forthcoming.

New post to an old thread. I'm trying to get a 280ZX tach to work with my swap. My AEM has a 12v pull to ground square wave output that I've been unable to modify so far to make the stock tach happy.
-
What are you doing about the tach?
-
Did you get the stock tach and speedo to work or did you go AM?
-
An addition to this, I just discovered that the standard gauge set and the digital (which I have), show a different part number for the sender.
-
I realize this is an old thread, but does anyone have more info on this Toyota temp sensor that makes the factory gauge work properly? I have an S13 in my car right now and it makes the gauge read quite a bit too high (operating temp when the car sat all night).
thanks,
Jared
