  1. carbs are easy to adjust, easy to fix, if theres a problem you can limp it home, you can find parts for them just about anywhere, and theres alot less to go wrong. manufactures used carbs for what 80 years, and ya they had problems but not as many as fi cars and a lot cheeper to fix.

  3. they are the same except the output shaft in the 4wd is shorter than the 2wd and you would need to find an extention housing, unfortunatly you need to tear the whole tranny apart to change the output shaft, ive had to do swap a 4wd to a 2wd once

  4. 800hp? what do you plan on doing with that?? drag race only, street car????, if its a drag race car and the odd cruise on the street id go powerglide.

whats the so special with the motor, supercharged??

what is the motor post some pics im shure everyone wants to see a 800hp z

  5. i personally being a tranny rebuilder would stick with the 4l60e (aka 700r4 w/electronics) the 4l80 is uber heavy and way to heavy duty unless you plan on towing huge stuff with your z, anyway the 4l60 can be modified to handle rediculous amounts of power with upgrades just find a tranny shop in your area that will build you a performance unit or buy a tcs or monster transmisson or what ever you have down there, trust me worth the money

  6. thanks for replying, it is a 77 but the weird thing is the diff is still in the car i never took it out, i knew whta they were for 5 months ago i cleaned the threads and put the nuts on but i cant figure it out now, the best i can come up with was i riped a r200 out of a 280zx at the junkyard and somehow they managed to end up with my bolt collection at home?

    Thanks

  7. on your new aftermarket gauge or gm gauge it will have 3 wires coming out ground(for the gauge), 12v switched power for the gauge, last one is for the sending unit center terminal(with the nut), and the spade terminal on the sending unit is the sending units ground

  8. hey guys

i took apart my car recently and put all the bolts in a can and i was sorting them out and fiqured all of them out except these 4 long 6" bolts, i kept them together when i took them off with the washer and the nut so i believe they go together, any help would be much appriciated

  9. Alright i have looked and looked for answers and i have come up dry i want to buy this speedo for my STOCK 77 280z with a 5 speed

    http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=ATM%2D4889&N=700+4294925228+400442+4294839042+4294815743+4294891591+4294765941+115&autoview=sku

im having a hard time figuring out what to use for the speed sender.

i now have only the stock cable, speedo gears and speedo gear holder.

Now does the autometer speed sensors just plug into the speedo gear holder at the trannie? and if so which one?

  10. Hi everyone

Im new to the import scence and the metric convertions

I know that on a standard run of the mill ford 302 that if its bored out .030 the top of the piston will have 030 cast in the top of the piston

Problem i ran into was that when i pulled my 77 280z engine apart to re-ring it 2 of the pistons had a 2 and a smaller 5 and the other 4 had a 4 and a smaller 5 now if my math serves me right and the 2 5 means .25mm thats a .010 oversize, i have never heard of a .010 oversize and the engine had around 130,000 miles on it when it was rebuilt and theres no way that it could be bored out only 10thou

I was just wondering what the numbers on the top mean and if i should be alarmed that they are not all the same?

    Thanks Guys

    Nick

PS I Have Searched This Topic

  11. on my z when i got it its a 77 but it should be the same the two green wires for the thermotime switch and the two black wires for the ecu's water sensor were mixed up and there should be another lone wire beside them for the dash's water temp gauge make sure these are hooked up right even take a pick and ill verifly, that is the first thing id check get back to me and if the problem persists well try some other things

  12. i like my sunroof, my car isnt a dark color its a light blue and soon to be a darker color but it is only insured and driven in the summer months and it is rather hot where i live(in summer is normally around 33-36 celcius about mid 90s in f) and being really hot its nice to have the sunroof as it keeps the car cool since i dont have ac and when it is open it does not look that bad either.

i have washed the car and mine is very weather tight i sprayed water at the underside of the seams and no water came in as for driving it in the rain i have not experienced that yet as it does not rain much here.

i dont feel a draft or anything so pretty tight there too.

i myself am going to keep mine but if it was in bad condition i would see if a shop can fix it and see if i could find parts for it or make my own, i myself like the lines of the early datsun z car the way the roof shape rolls into the hatch and perfectly to the rear of the car and how many early z cars have a sunroof?

  13. well, long story short I really wanted a Z and ended up picking it up for $300. looks to be rusty in the usually Z areas from what I've seen, and this stupid roof needs to be reskinned. just working on selling parts off the engine and sourcing parts I'm missing this winter, will start really working on it next summer.

and there's a pic of the canvas pos someone thought was a good idea.

My z has the same sunroof mine is in very good condition its a 77 280z my uncle was the second owner and he got the car in 79 and it was already on it so by my thinking its a dealer installed option

  14. yes i want to mount both its an original (as they get) aluminum louvers that fit out side the window and the spoiler is the 1 piece fiberglass that is the most common one.

I have no hinges or hardware so if i see a close up picture of how they mount i can make something up or get hinges from the hardware store.

    Thanks

    Nick

  15. I have rear window louvers and spoiler the problem i have is i have no mounting hardware i dont even know if they are rivieted on or bolted on, i have searched the internet and the forum and came up dry, if someone could post pictures of how they mount or explain a way i could mount them, i also have the original holes there too.

    Thanks in advance

    Nick
