  1. I just installed Holley EFI analog gauges in my dash because I’m running the Holley terminator ECU. I really like the speedhut gauges but went with Holley because I can hook them straight to the ECU. Long story short the more I looked at them the more they look like speedhut and I did some digging and several Holley forum posts are saying they’re actually made by speedhut for Holley. Only thing I don’t like is the small gauges only come in 2 1/16 and of course the Holley logo. Anyway just thought I’d pass it along.

*sorry if this has been discussed or if I’m in the wrong sub forum.

  2. If so did the bearing come out with the axle or stay in place inside the hub. Everything I've read shows the bearing staying on the axle but I drove out two today with an air hammer and neither bearing moved at all. These are my donor axles that I'm going to have drilled and I was wondering if this is normal and will they just slide back into the bearing thats still in the hub?

  3. Well I picked up two new seals which are the flush seated type and installed both hubs. Both seam to drag a little but I'm thinking it's the seals and they'll wear in some as I drive it. Both appear to have the exact same offset as my wheel is probally 1/16" from the strut on both sides! Ezzzz that sounds like a great idea and probally will work better but I'm gonna try this out first and see how it does.

  4. I got each hub from a different source and they appear to be slightly different. The hub on the right had a seal with a lip and the one on the left used a seal that went flush with the edge, that seal appears to work on both hubs and the seal with a lip will not. Will I have any problems running these hubs on an s30 as far as offset and the hub seal are concerned?

  5. Well I feel like my eyes are bleeding and I'm about an hour past my bedtime but I've found an easy solution to my clutch hose blues. I found one post from 2003 with a nice picture and a reference to an off the shelf XRP -3 hose. After searching online I found out that Russell sells a -3 coupling just like the Mcleod -4 version. Except it's $20 for 2!! And XRP has -3 hoses at any length with 90' on one side and straight on the other for about $20. So for what it costs me for the Mcleod fitting I can have the hose and all with no headache! Here's some part numbers:

    Russell fitting 640281

    XRP hose 639024

  6. I had a co-worker bring in a "NWC" T5 from one of his buddies that was pulled from an 83 camaro. I told him I would give him $150 if everything looked alright thinking that I could get by for a while until a found something stronger later on. It was a V8 car but he said that he didn't think it was the original transmission. Well the first thing I see is a Dexron II sticker and I immediatly ran the numbers and sure enough it was an original WC T5 from a 89 F-body. So $150 for a complete trans, bell housing, shifter, and yoke is enough for me justify making a post just to share my story to all you complete strangers out there!!

  7. I'm pretty sure the 83 turbo is an R200 3.54 rear end. Yes you can swap, but why? You swaping motors to a higher HP?

The axles and such will fit, but you will need to swap even more parts. Part of the brakes will work, but you will need rear brackets of a 81-83 maxima or order custom ones.

Again I ask why? What are your goals?

    It's a V8 car now

Since I guess the whole setup is not a bolt in fit I just need to use an R200 without the rest of the zx stuff.

  8. O.K. first let me say that yes I have searched and as of right now I think my eyes are bleeding!! I've been turning wrenches for years but am very new to Z cars.

    Here we go..

    1. I have a 74 260z. (4th month).

    2. I have access to a cheap diff from a 83 280zx Turbo Automatic.

Every post I have read relates to changing axles from one diff to another.

First question is can you simply swap the entire setup keeping the 83 axles as well as the rear disc brakes or is one setup longer than the other?

Second question seems a little more fuzzy. I've read alot of posts about what these cars came with and some say that this 83 would have a R200 and some say an R180. Any ideas about a turbo automatic?

  9. Well that should be a pretty fair comparison considering I live in Rockmart which is 25 minutes from Hiram! Ha ha!

By the way since your in the area do you know of any places around here to find used parts for Z's. I need a few misc. things that I can't seem to find.

  10. I ordered a kit, headers, radiator and manual from them about a week ago and the payment cleared about 3 days ago. I'm just wondering when I can expect to see my stuff over on the east coast, in other words how quick are they with processing orders and shipping? I've yanked the inline 6 and I'm foaming at the mouth for some new parts if you know what I mean.

  11. This one has a build date of the 4th month I believe and the gas tank on this car looks like it would be a stretch to hold 10 gallons, of course looks can be deceiving sometimes. As far as the handling I've just read here and there that the suspension has its faults and I just wanted an opinion on it vs. what I'm used to driving as far as a car of that era is concerned. Thanks for the input.

  12. First off I just want to say that I've been lurking and researching for a about a month and love this site. I'm new to Z's altogether and just bought a 260z that I've started a V8 swap in. I'm a full time mechanic and have been tinkering with SBC's on and off for 10 or so years so hopefully I won't pester you guys with endless questions about nothing. However I have a few questions and observations after a weekend of chopping metal.

    1. How well do these cars handle compared to say an older chevy and will a lack of power steering be a problem with a v8?

    2. How fast will JTR ship to the east coast?

    3. And finally I just want to pass along that I think this thing has the smallest gas tank I have ever seen!! You all must have to stop like every hour or so when your out cruising!
