  1. Got my brakes in last week. I just opened the box the other day and boy are they BIG!!!! I made on Oops though. I had Dave make the hats for a 280z front hub. Low and behold I forgot all about changing them out for 240z hubs back in 1996-97 to fit the 4 piston Toyota calipers. I made a phone call and had a set in hand in about an hour today though after confirming my goofup with Dave. I just got done cleaning and painting the 280z hubs and the fronts will be on the car tonight. Gotta go, lots of parts to install.

  2. Sorry, No pictures. I have already put the stock radiator back in. I will just mod the radiator and intercooler piping. I never was happy with it anyway. All of my pipes run through the radiator support on the drivers side. No biggy, just part of owning a Hybrid car so to speak. LOL

     

    Yasin, I did see your pictures. Thanks, Helped me say the heck with it, let the modding begin..... Gotta fit a new oil cooler up there anyways....

  3. I just went to install my new Aluminum radiator from Arizona Z Car. It fits perfect and I have had no issues with the hoses. My problem is the intercooler piping is a no go for sure. The inlet on the radiator is interfering with the IC pipping to the intake. They are darn near facing each other. I have a same side HKS intercooler. The only thing I can think of is to have a new pipe made and may installing a 90 deg. out on the radiator. Boy, modified cars are fun!!!!! I have used the search function and came up with some hits but not many. Idea's are needed.

  4. Get a dial indicator and shim the hats straight, after mounting to the hubs. You will regret not doing this. I have a thread about doing this in here somewhere. The brakes, done correctly, are incredible. On par, if not better, feel and stopping power, than the Brembo setup on my friends STi.

     

     

    Thanks, I had already read your thread before hand and I was watching it like a hawk to see the outcome. I was planning on checking the runout when I installed them all the way around.

  5. I just ordered my front/rear Willwood brake setup from Arizona Z car. I went with the 4 piston calipers up front with the 13" drilled rotors. If anybody can warp a set of rotors, that would be Me!!!:D Tell me how I am gonna like my new kit please. At this time I have the Toytoa 4x4 calipers and solid drilled rotors up front and the 79 280zx calipers with drilled rotors in the back. I am basicly tired of fooling with this setup.

  6. I have a 1975 280zt with the factory oil cooler mounted in front of the right front tire. Does anyone sell new braded lines and cooler that will connect to the AN fittings that come out the inner fender well? I just cramed some 17' wheels on the sled and I have a rubbing issue on the lines that needs to be dealt with. I would like to do away with the factory cooler and move it to in front of the condensor and after the intercooler. Your thoughts are welcome.

  7. When I put my T5 in my 75' 280z I had to do a couple of things. I used the T5 slave cylinder bought new from Nissan, Throw out bearing(same) clutch(same), tranny Mount (Same), and here are the changes. Build new driveshaft, cut the tranny crossmember and reweld it Forward 3/4 in. Bend the shifter back at a 90 and then back up to fit my shifting hole.

  8. I agree on this situation, and the more parts you bolt together on an assembly that is expected to spin at high rpms, the more likelyhood of an imbalance. That is why smart people spend the extra money to balance an engine. On wheels, brakes, and even tires, it is a good idea to use a dial indicator to make sure you are wobble free. Some folks will actually put their new tires on a lathe and turn them down if need be to make them round. Sound extreme? Tell me about it when you have a truly fast car.

     

     

    Funny you say this. I have had brand new tires trued up do to bounce, or out of roundness. Works like a charm. And I also love to have my tires spin balanced on the car. Very hard to find a place that will do either one anymore.

  9. Hehehe,,,,,, I know how you feel about that tranny. T5 is a beast. I took mine out to do the front seal cause it pucked all over my new slipping clutch.....!@@!@#@#$.... Had it on the jack........... Had is the correct wording. Sliding the jack backwards it deceided it didn't like the jack anymore and fell off. WHEW!!!!!! I didn't break anything.... to put it back in I did as usual with no lift and tranny jack. Slide tranny into place, block it up a little. Slide under tranny with head by flywheel, and put the tranny on my chest. Hump it up cussing and screaming into position, hopeing like crazy I can hit the hole before I get tired........

     

    Wife comes out to the garage..... What the $$??? are you doing? I can hear ya cussin in the house. LOL!!!!!!!

     

    I need a lift!!!!!!!!!

  10. Subaru Master Techs are told to use that stuff in their training for engine and trans both.

     

    BG has different stuff for the oil, it is call MOA. Works great for breaking in new motors. They also have some stuff for the auto trannies that I also run. I don't remember exactly what they call it.

  11. BG 44K is one of the only cleaners that has worked for me. On my 300ztt that I sold I used it. I was getting only 200 Miles to a tank. After cleaning the throttle bodies and dumping 44K into a full fuel tank I was getting 300+ miles per tank and I was not trying at all. Drove the crap out of it like usual. The only bad thing was it is around $17 bucks a can but you only need to run it every 30,000 miles.

  12. This thread reminds me of the tricks we used to pull on folks in the first digital speedo gauge Maxima's. Flip it to Km/h and watch folks eyes get big speeding off from a stop. As far as what I can remember on a stock 280z with the 5-speed top speed was around 122-124 MPH. 4 speed cars were around 117 mph. Been a long time since I have thought about it. I know when you get up to 130 MPH the 280z, 280zx rascals get very twitchy, and I agree with everyone else, not very aerodynamic.

     

    By the way, I got some good deer stories, I killed a 20 point once. LOL!!!!

    Out of all the Z's I have seen on this site this is one of the best. Do you have pics's of the inside? I bought my current 1975 280zt back in 1992. It is old school, orginal 75' ECM, HKS intercooler, T5 tranny. I did the inside and drive train plus some extra's 10 years ago. New Nissan Long block with P90a head (solid rockers, no hydro's). Only have about 20,000 miles on it since then. I got married and was to broke to do anything with it until now. If the funds hold out I hope mine turns out as nice as yours when I am done. Nice ride!!!!!!!

     

    I grew up redoing Z's. I have owned 1974 1/2 260z, 1983 280zx, 1978 280z, 1987 300zxt, 1990 300ztt, and my current 1975 280zt.

  14. Good evening to you all. My turbo conversaion has hit a snag. The seals in my T3 are shot and the turbo needs to be rebuild. I live in North Carolina. Looking for some good places that could rebiuld my t3. Please let mw know.

     

     

     

    Back in 96' I had mine rebuilt by TEC out in California. I don't know if they are still around. I had mine converted to water cooled center section and a few other things(Compressor wheel, turbine and machine work) to the tune of around $600-700.

    I wish it were that easy. I am in line at the moment my date is the end of September..:( He is finishing up putting an LS1 in one at the moment and complete rust repair. Everything is hand made. He's got the talent if you have the money kind of guy. I have looked at his work and it is very, very, good.
