  1. In my researching for my GTO conversion, I've found a US source for Ferrari engines. Long blocks, full engines, used, new, you name it. ;) Though the hard part would be adapting the newer engines to FR, as they're all RR/MR

But, engine parts for the newer Ferrari's (82 and up) are actually fairly easy to come by if you know where to look...and I've discovered some parts actually came from North American suppliers. :D What costs so much is the labor.

Oh, don't get me wrong...the stuffs still expensive as heck...but not nearly as bad as some of the horror stories Ive heard about $5000 tune ups. More like...$1500, provided you're doing the labor.

But, I can get a full, running drivetrain from a 308, right now, for less than $10K. And if you've ever priced Ferrari engines or transmissions, you'll know that's a STEAL!

  2. I just remembered...when I did my first respray on my old Chevy about 10 years ago, I used this stuff called "Aircraft Stripper" to take off the old finish first.

It will eat away ANYTHING but not harm the metal. Most custom shops swear by the stuff.

It's not a brand name, as many manufacturers make it. The best place to look for it would be your local auto parts store. It won't be found at Home Depot or Lowes.

  3. PLEASE be careful of the Katrina engine. My gf and her family was in Katrina and they're all racers. Consequently they have quite a few race motors that were ruined that DID NOT GO UNDER WATER.

I asked her dad about your motor, and it's possible that it may be okay...BUT before you turn it over, you're going to want to flush it with fresh oil to be sure first.

You're gonna want to fill it and turn it over manually at the crank first. Then empty it, refill it w/ more fresh oil and THEN turn it over from the key without the fuel lines a few more times. After that, if the motor feels and sounds like it's not gonna seize up, empty it a third time, refill it with more fresh oil again before you finally put fuel and spark into it.

It sounds like a P.I.T.A., I know. But those aren't my words...that comes from an engine builder that went through Katrina. Better safe than sorry.

    Good luck!:-D

  4. Wow. A straight-8. Don't see those....ever. :D

Great find on the intake though.

I've been looking for an old Offy 4x2 for my upcoming "retro" setup, but couldn't ever find one. The closest thing I could find to what I wanted comes from Carbs Unlimited. But it sits a little too high for my liking, plus for what they're wanting for the manifold and Webers, I could just about have a fully custom IDF style EFI.

  5. Cool!

Like any kid with a box and a marker...it can be anything from a rocket ship, to a tank, to a race car.

The deuces are pretty much the "cardboard box" of hot rods. You can do just about anything you want to it, and it'll still be cool. :)

Oh...and the term "highboy", in roadster speak, refers to the body sitting on top of the frame. A "lowboy" has the frame channeled through the body.

  6.

If you scroll up and look...we're IN the ford subforums.

Sounds like a fun combo though. A SB 427 would be pretty rad in a Z.

Are there motor mounts available (should be the same as a 5.0)?
You'll want to get the JTR V8 conversion manual first. It covers a Chevy install, but the mounting would be pretty much the same, just with Ford mounts.

Does anybody make sub-frame connectors for the Z?
Not a pre fabbed kit, that I know of. Some folks have put in a S14 subframe before though.

Anybody know how much HP the R200 rear end can handle?
I don't know the particulars, but there are members here that have FAR more power than 550 rwhp that run the stock R200 and half-shafts.

Can you get good limited slip for the R200?
yes. There are about 5-6 different types of LSD that will fit the R200.

Has anybody swapped in a Dana 44 IRS from a Corvette?
Not that I know of. I believe it's been discussed, but have determined it'd be FAR more work than is warranted, especially with a nice R200 underneath. Same stock ratio by the way...3.54. Only reason you would is just to be "different".

...and before an admin comes in here, I'm gonna go ahead and warn ya...

...if you have ANY questions...even the smallest one...you'll DEFINITELY want to use the Search function FIRST. People here tend to frown on answering the same questions that could've been easily answered with a search.

....and welcome! Glad you "decided" to get outta that notchback. That same setup in a Z will be a lot more fun. :D

  7. I've found a bunch of "parts cars" here in the SE. None of them worthy of the body work needed.

I just need the shell. hahaha.

I'm going to inspect a running 72-73 240 in a few days. Post what you need and I'll see what he's got. If I end up getting it, I'll set some stuff aside for you. I'd just be stripping it to the shell any way. Maybe we can work out a little credit towards that Hilborn style EFI we talked about. :D
