I just saw this thread...are those...FORD calipers???
-
I HOPE it's a fad. Yeah, it looks cool, and it DOES take a bit of skill to do consistently, but it's the most inefficient style of driving.
But, I've recently gotten into touge. The U.S. DEFINITELY needs more of that!

Excellent work! Can't wait to see it to completion.

I just remembered...when I did my first respray on my old Chevy about 10 years ago, I used this stuff called "Aircraft Stripper" to take off the old finish first.
It will eat away ANYTHING but not harm the metal. Most custom shops swear by the stuff.
It's not a brand name, as many manufacturers make it. The best place to look for it would be your local auto parts store. It won't be found at Home Depot or Lowes.

If you can get the new CS3, it has a color replacement brush. Basically, all you have to do is select a color and start coloring.

woo hoo!!!! 1.99 in franklin tn now....roughly 2.20 for premium 91......
It's even cheaper now here in Franklin. $1.87 at the Kroger by Target.
I just got home from a trip though, and the cheapest I saw it was $1.63..somewhere in BFE Alabama.

PLEASE be careful of the Katrina engine. My gf and her family was in Katrina and they're all racers. Consequently they have quite a few race motors that were ruined that DID NOT GO UNDER WATER.
I asked her dad about your motor, and it's possible that it may be okay...BUT before you turn it over, you're going to want to flush it with fresh oil to be sure first.
You're gonna want to fill it and turn it over manually at the crank first. Then empty it, refill it w/ more fresh oil and THEN turn it over from the key without the fuel lines a few more times. After that, if the motor feels and sounds like it's not gonna seize up, empty it a third time, refill it with more fresh oil again before you finally put fuel and spark into it.
It sounds like a P.I.T.A., I know. But those aren't my words...that comes from an engine builder that went through Katrina. Better safe than sorry.
Good luck!

Ingenious! I love it!!!

You COULD have it media blasted (instead of sand). The softer blasting media will only remove paint and not pit or texture the metal.
But using stripper, as mentioned, is WAY more cost effective.

More carb porn.
That's the Weber setup I mentioned earlier.
-
Wow. A straight-8. Don't see those....ever.
Great find on the intake though.
I've been looking for an old Offy 4x2 for my upcoming "retro" setup, but couldn't ever find one. The closest thing I could find to what I wanted comes from Carbs Unlimited. But it sits a little too high for my liking, plus for what they're wanting for the manifold and Webers, I could just about have a fully custom IDF style EFI.
-
BEAUTIFUL deal! Absolutely!!!!
Can't wait to see some videos of it in action!
-
What year? and where is it?
-
Yeah, you're gonna want to get that sucker media blasted before you do anything else.
I forsee MANY flash burns in our future.
-
That's what ya get for Googling it.
-
Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking of. Just couldn't find it. hahaha!

Cool!
Like any kid with a box and a marker...it can be anything from a rocket ship, to a tank, to a race car.
The deuces are pretty much the "cardboard box" of hot rods. You can do just about anything you want to it, and it'll still be cool.
Oh...and the term "highboy", in roadster speak, refers to the body sitting on top of the frame. A "lowboy" has the frame channeled through the body.

http://forums.hybridz.org/forumdisplay.php?f=66 the ford sub.forum.
If you scroll up and look...we're IN the ford subforums.
Sounds like a fun combo though. A SB 427 would be pretty rad in a Z.
You'll want to get the JTR V8 conversion manual first. It covers a Chevy install, but the mounting would be pretty much the same, just with Ford mounts. Are there motor mounts available (should be the same as a 5.0)?
Not a pre fabbed kit, that I know of. Some folks have put in a S14 subframe before though.Does anybody make sub-frame connectors for the Z?
I don't know the particulars, but there are members here that have FAR more power than 550 rwhp that run the stock R200 and half-shafts.Anybody know how much HP the R200 rear end can handle?
yes. There are about 5-6 different types of LSD that will fit the R200.Can you get good limited slip for the R200?
Not that I know of. I believe it's been discussed, but have determined it'd be FAR more work than is warranted, especially with a nice R200 underneath. Same stock ratio by the way...3.54. Only reason you would is just to be "different".Has anybody swapped in a Dana 44 IRS from a Corvette?...and before an admin comes in here, I'm gonna go ahead and warn ya...
...if you have ANY questions...even the smallest one...you'll DEFINITELY want to use the Search function FIRST. People here tend to frown on answering the same questions that could've been easily answered with a search.
....and welcome! Glad you "decided" to get outta that notchback. That same setup in a Z will be a lot more fun.

Well that sux. That's the story of my project lately. A day late or a dollar short.
If you wanna post or PM me the parts you're looking for, I'll keep an eye out on the one I'm going to look at in Huntsville in a few days.

We sure were! Got on I-59/I-20 in Cuba, then took I-59 south to Laurel. I got home at 9:45 am, so I must have been on I-59 starting at about 8:45.
I think I may have passed you. I was going south. Ever since I decided to embark on this epic 240/260 search, Ive been eyeballing every Z I see.

8.7 on first run through.

I'm gonna be putting one of their AC systems in my project...when it gets to that point...and ESPECIALLY if I end up having to move the firewall back.
But look around. They've got more than a couple different styles of vents.

I've found a bunch of "parts cars" here in the SE. None of them worthy of the body work needed.
I just need the shell. hahaha.
I'm going to inspect a running 72-73 240 in a few days. Post what you need and I'll see what he's got. If I end up getting it, I'll set some stuff aside for you. I'd just be stripping it to the shell any way. Maybe we can work out a little credit towards that Hilborn style EFI we talked about.
Exotic "SOUNDING", high revving V8! Read "ENTIRE" thread before posting!!!

In my researching for my GTO conversion, I've found a US source for Ferrari engines. Long blocks, full engines, used, new, you name it. Though the hard part would be adapting the newer engines to FR, as they're all RR/MR
But, engine parts for the newer Ferrari's (82 and up) are actually fairly easy to come by if you know where to look...and I've discovered some parts actually came from North American suppliers. What costs so much is the labor.
Oh, don't get me wrong...the stuffs still expensive as heck...but not nearly as bad as some of the horror stories Ive heard about $5000 tune ups. More like...$1500, provided you're doing the labor.
But, I can get a full, running drivetrain from a 308, right now, for less than $10K. And if you've ever priced Ferrari engines or transmissions, you'll know that's a STEAL!
