  1. Success! Thanks for the pipe tip! Goal is to get it to the machine shop by tomorrow.
  2. Update: Found a user online to sell me an LD28 crank, forged ross pistons, as well as 133m rods. I've since pulled the engine out of my wrecked 240z. It took a few days as I had to cut the front frame off as well as the radiator since it was all wedged in their pretty tight. A few surprises from the engine though, It had a brand new centerforce clutch and what looks like one of those 10.8 lbs lightened flywheel. ps. I cant seem to get the flywheel off. It's not a matter of it spinning as you can see I've got the chain to take care of that. Its that I just cant get enough torque to break the bolts loose. Doing all this with a recently broken hand doesnt seem to help. I even bought an electric impact wrench rated at 385lbs of torque and the bolts still wouldn't budge. I may just bring the whole bottom end, flywheel and all, to my machine shop while I get the blocked bored out and have them remove it. Maybe get the flywheel resurfaced while theyre at it.
  3. Looking for a shell mainly. The more bare it is the better. The less rust the better. Prefer 240z, will consider 260z and 280z. Thanks!
  4. Wow! Those are great numbers. What did you get for torque?
  5. Thanks for the insight guys. I am leaning towards keeping it an L28 for now until I can scrounge up an LD28 crank. Duragg, have you ever dynoed your car?
  6. hmm... That L28 setup is appealing. Considering how hard it is to find an LD28 nowadays. Plus I can build it and when an LD28 does pop up I can always swap it over along with a new gasket, pistons. Or just get the HKS 2mm gasket now therefore I dont have to mill the 280zx pistons until after I get the LD28? Or thats just too much back and forth work.
  7. Sorry, correction: P90 head - 53.67cc HKS - 2mm 280zx Flat top pistos - 87mm bore, 1mm mill 280z rods - 130.2mm Crank LD28 - 83mm results in: Block Height= 207.87 mm Deck Height= 0.93 mm Chamber Volume= 53.6 cc Cylinder Volume= 493.41 cc Gasket Volume= 13.01 cc Dish Volume= 0 cc Deck Volume= -5.53 cc Uncompressed Volume= 560.02 cc Compressed Volume= 61.08 cc Compression ratio= 9.17:1 Total displacement= 2960.45 cc Changing to a 1.25mm gasket would result in 9.8:1 compression. @BluDestiny: I've always wanted a stroker ever since I caught the Z bug. Unless the torque increase is plain marginal over the 2.8L, I'm prepared to spend the extra dough.
  8. Yeah, slept on it for a while and finally decided to just build my own. I've had 3 Z's over the years and I finally think its time to build one from the ground up. You should come pick it up, although the owner did say he was very reluctant to sell.
  9. Hey guys! Finally took the leap and have decided to build my own motor as opposed to buying a prebuilt one. I've started to buy some parts but before I buy too much I wanted to confirm these numbers. I keep getting different engine compression numbers from different programs. I believe the CR will be 9.17:1 (again, different programs are giving me different numbers) P90 head - 44.7cc HKS - 2mm 280zx Flat top pistos - 87mm bore, 1mm mill 280z rods - 133mm Crank LD28 - 83mm I'd like to stay under 9.6:1 compression as I want this build to be a mild pump gas street build with only the occasional autoX. HP goals = 170-180. Would late model 240Z rods and LZ22S pistons work better? I know this combo brings in about 9.6:1 with a 2mm gasket/n42 head.
  10. The car ended up being a stroker. Talked to Tony D about it and he remembered the car as being a rebello motor. It's actually the same exact car as the one in this video . In the end I didn't buy it though and have instead decided to build my own...
  11. If only you could buy them brand new now for $6,000... Any idea how much 6k was worth back then after adjusting for inflation? Awewsome build btw! You're inspiring me to start a restoration myself as opposed to buying a completed car.
  12. I'm considering buying a 3.0 stroker + SU's setup from a guy down here in Va. Up til recently I've never heard a stroker before but compared to stock L28's that I've heard, this car sounds scary mean! It pulls hard from 1st to 4th and is a blast to drive. I think you'll love your little setup here. Take videos when it's done!
  13. Thats exactly what I plan on doing. The guy says its a rebello motor and that rebello knows the car. I guess I'll have to give Dave a call.
