  1. So a carb intake manifold and fab something to fit a TB?
  2. Maybe you have the Isky L480 grind? Exact same numbers. I think it's a little more aggressive than the Shadbolt M455, at least it has higher duration at 0.050". Interesting that your stock EFI is working, are you running higher fuel pressure or something? Maybe the CHTS is broken so the ECU thinks it's -40 and adds a ton of fuel That happened to me but it was undrivable, very rich. I am running MS2 fuel only, have a trigger wheel but had some issues. I think my homemade bracket sucks so the hall sensor is to far away from the wheel. Would there be a big benefit of running spark with MS as well? Thanks for the tip regarding the manifolds! Looks very nice
  3. Hi, I a .480" lift and 280 duration Shadbolt M455 cam with a "street" ported N47 and cast pistons on my race car. The head has some valve unshrouding and the bowl area cleaned up. No reshaping of ports or welding of chambers. It seems like the general consensus is that the Stock EFI intake struggles on modifed engines, over 5500 RPM and it seems to struggle. This is mostly peoples opinions, the only real evidence I have seen is from a dyno plot from z-ya After about 5500 the stock intakes struggle whilst the ITBs still makes torque. This is a mild cam with no head work. With head work and aggressive cams the difference would be more? But it seems like it's possible to make power using a modified EFI intake, lester001 is making power with a ported N42 intake. Even if Rebellos said he would make 50more hp (!) with ITB So, doing something about the stock EFI is probably a good idea. Home porting seems hard. Are these my options? 1. Lonewolf stage 1, $125 (Port without cutting). 2. Lonewolf stage 2, $325 (Port with cutting up). 3. Lonewolf custom intake $700. (Stop making them?) 4. Custom intake with Blake flange, $300 + fabbing. 5. Jenvey ITB, $1600 6. Datsun Spritit ITB >$2000. Seems like option 2 might be a good alternative if cast pistons are being used (<6500 RPM). ITB probably makes more sense on >7500 RPM engines? Also hard to tune. Has anyone tried a hot cam with stock efi?
  4. Hi, The valve seats on the N47 exhaust ports sticks out and creates a pretty bad edge. I want to grind them down flush with the exhaust liner. Is it OK to grind the bottom of the seals down? Or will that weaken them? Quite a lot of material that needs to be removed.
  5. It looks good I think. Is the top timing mark on the sprocket aligned to the shiney or marked link in the chain? Can you ever get it passed 5000 RPM? How is ignition controlled? From megasquirt as well?
  6. I am sure chickenman is right about the camshaft but if you want a little stiffer springs the Z31 non turbo springs are great for that. But don't use them at high lift cams (>0.480). Shouldn't it be easy to spot if the timing is wrong? The shiny link needs to be in a specific place at TDC?
  7. So external logic ignition modules such as LS coils must be best then? (From an emi perpsective)
  8. Bur what about EDIS vs trigger wheel and logic coils?
  9. That is a very good point
  10. Whats the drawback? Isnt this the preferred way?
  11. I have Microsquirt in my 280zx race car and it works well, it's more durable for weather ( race car = no windows = water everywhere during heavy rains). But I had to add the MAP sensor. I am also running high imp injectors. I am not missing anything that MS2 has. The only thing I am missing is more ADC but MS2 doesn't have that. I have heard that the Microsquirt (uS) has better designed HW (or PCB layout?) and more noise resistant. It's a later design I think. But I am no expert on that. Having said that my uS broke and had to be replaced under warranty, so they are not indestructible. (The 280zx coil fired a component in Opto- path when running fuel only). If you have decided on those injectors then do MS2, saves you some headache. Why especially on a Trubo car? Because you loose 1 output on Microsquirt to the solenoid?
  12. What is the power band with that cam?
  13. Have specs on the cam? Just curious. this is a thread on oil starvation,
  14. Hi. 1. Couldn't you disconnect the vaccum advance? Don't need it for autocross.. Mechanical advance is ~35 and 15 degress on top of that is a lot of advance. 2. What cam did you end up getting? Any piston to valve issues? What did you do for valve train and lash pads? 3. Are you getting low oil pressure in turns? Are you running slicks? I would think autocross is mostly quick shorter turns and not long sweepers. I am running RS4 tires on a race track and haven't experienced any issues. I fill a little more.
  15. They sent me the wrong springs, the z31 outer works great. A litttle stiffer then stock so good for high rpm. But they do coil bind if you have a high lift cam. Maybe a little before .480"
  16. The 7163 doesn't come in T3 I think, will you use an adapter for that?
  17. Hi, I am thinking of getting a EFR turbo for my turbo race car build. They have inbuilt BOV, wastegate and selonid so perfect for DIYers with limited fabrication capabilites. Downside its very expnsive, but the 7064 is now on sale everywhere. I guess its being replaced for something more modern. I dont think its perfect for a 300-400hp L28 build, it seems to favor smaller displacement with higher boost. I plotted the airflow for 10psi, 16psi and 20psi. VE is 0.8, plotted line is from 3250 RPM to 6500 RPM. This is the same operating points on a old school T3/T4 hybrid. (from http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/turbo/turbomaps/index.htm) How would the EFR 7064 compare against the older turbo plotted above? Seems it would perform similar on mid RPM but close to redline it would perform worse? Spool is probably much faster on the EFR but efficiency seems to be equal or worse (for those operating points). Comments? thoughts?
  18. Make sure they are not bent, mine was.
  19. I am currently in Europe, I guess I will check when I am home in TX....
  20. Nice! Could you tell us more about the car? What head and pistons? What intercooler? Do you track it? Any heat issues?
