  1. nobody makes anything for a s130!!! (ok maybe there is somethings but nothing compared to a s30) you might be able to modify it to work if your into that kind of stuff ,but i love the stock zx hood.

I love it too, I just think that scoop would look amazing on the s130 lol

  2. Here is a quick one of an S30.  Looks decent from the front.  I think the side will be where it may look odd though.

That actually looks amazing. And the reason I ask for the S130 is that I have it haha     This is something to consider...

  3. The issue is that the aero-mirrors you posted the link too have a very large triangular mounting base (where it bolts to the a-pillar). The S-30 does not have anywhere to accommodate such a large mount. The leading edge of the door trim is very thin, and the a-pillar is also very thin. If you could make some kind of bracket to bridge the gap (angle) where the upper glass trim and the door meet, then it may work. However in doing so, a portion of the door glass will be hidden behind the mounting bracket. Mechanically, this will look strange from the inside as far as functionality. As to how it would look on the outside, I do not know. If I have some free time, I will try to photoshop an image of what I mean.

If you could that would be wonderful! I'd love to see a picture even if photoshopped, rather than just an idea in my head haha

You mention S30, what about S130? I know the pillar is still nonexistent with it, but what do you think about the door length and such things?

  4. As far as aerodynamics go, the mirrors are the least of the problems with the S-30 chassis.  I feel that style-wise they would look a bit strange since they are a very modern design and rather large, but someone may be able to pull it off.  The real issue with mounting them as you stated is that the pillars are not large enough to accommodate them.  It would take quite a bit of fab work to get them to mount properly while still being pleasing to the eye.  I have seen a few folks use APR "F-1 style" mirrors which look quite good I think.

Do you think the mirrors would possibly look good if they directly replaced the side mirrors on the door? for instance, I notice on my 280zx that the mirrors are on the door, but if aero mirrors were to replace they could maybe be a direct fab on? I'm not sure haha

  5. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has done any custom work on the s130 or s30 for aero mirrors. I think the flush look of them would give better aerodynamics (obviously) than most of the side mirrors available. Problem is I know that the mirrors on s130 and s30 chassis are located on the door itself rather than on the small a-pillar.  I like this style https://www.constant-collection.com/collections/aero/products/nissan-silvia-s14-ganador-power-aero-mirrors-1  and I think if there was a way to get aero mirrors on our cars they'd give it a sleek look that would rival fender mirrors. If anyone has done this or knows a way to get these done let me know! I really would love to have these things!!

  6. Don't overlook gear ratios.  You might need a new diff also if your ratios change much.  The 80-83 280ZX transmissions are fine for normal sporty driving.  And if you're looking because you have some grinding or noise, there are cheaper fixes than total replacement.

As far as what might you suggest?

  7. These two guys give a pretty good summary of the pros and cons of the 240SX/71C swap

The Z32 swap requires an adapter.

What do you mean by "upgrade"?  How could a different transmission be better?  You need to define that to make a good decision.

Awesome thank you for the links! I'll read up.    I suppose that is a broad term.. I will take that into consideration and redefine my goal.

  8. Hey guys, I am currently looking to replace my transmission in about a month or so, but was hoping for somewhat of an upgrade to my current 1981 280zx NA tranny.  I have seen some do a 240sx swap and others do z32 swaps.  What are the pros and cons of each one? Are there other transmissions that are worth looking at or would it be better to just replace my current one with a newer one. Thank you guys!

  9. Not much to explain really. Everything column related on my car is trashed. The switches were bad, theres play in the column itself, was missing the key, and the wheel was destroyed. I also did a full front and rear s13 suspension swap on my car, so im not limited by trying to stay original, and since the wiring in the car was also trashed, i plan to use a column from something else (most likely a sentra) andd  gain the modern wheel and functioning switches. I considered buying a smashed car and using a column and body harness from it but im not sure if modding a harness or a custom harness will be more work.

How do you like the 240sx suspension swap?  I was considering having this done for my old stock suspension.    I would take a guess that a custom harness would be more difficult lol   Goodluck though my friend on that part of your build!

  10. Anythings possible with enough time and money lol. I personally havent seen a 370z in a s30 done before, but modern Column upgrades for the wheel, switches and ignition are very common in classic cars. For example This guys full r32 interior swap.... and whole car.

For my restoration i actually plan to do something similar. I have my eyes on a sentra ser column. My ignition, switches and wheel were trashed so I'm starting fresh with something more modern.

Honestly I haven't either so I thought it would be really unique to do! I want to upgrade my entire interior in the near future, I just redid it but to the stock look. s130 interior is nice but I want more modern lol I see a vision more with the 370z wheel and... I'm not sure yet haha Hopefully in 2 years I can put something down that is unique and tasteful.   Awesome link btw!   And I hope your plans go well my friend!   And you said similar but more modern. This interests me, can you explain more ?

  11. If you lost me when i said column in reference to the steering column  im sorry but i think this project may be best left to a professional. Having full function of the applicable features will require rewiring youre whole wipre stock, signal stock, ignition, and steering wheel stuff. Ontop of that custom mounting and welding of the shafts.

Oh yes most definitely. I was just wondering if it had been done before and if it would be possible.    Sorry, I'm trying to learn as much by reading the forums!

  12. What sort of end result are you hoping for? just the wheel is one thing, but if you want to have the buttons functional for something youll have to swap the whole column.

what do you mean as in the whole column? That would be interesting for all the new wheel functions to work.

  13. Hey guys. I was looking at the 370z steering wheels and I was wondering if it was possible to convert them to fit on the ZX??  I'd really love to have that in my car. If anyone has done this please let me know or have any idea on how to do this! I think it'd be a cool thing to do. Thanks everyone

  15. I just came across the idea mainly because of the V12 at SEMA. I know buick and pontiac for sure used to run inline-8's back before WW2 for racing cars. But I supposed the point of custom fab would be a major issue as well as custom parts and the endless custom list. Interesting to think though!

  16. Hey guys. I recently saw a few posts of a Camaro at SEMA who had a V12 that was basically welded together. My question is, can the Inline 6 be welded to an inline 8? Has anyone ever done this to their Z before??  I tried searching it but no results. I know old American cars used to have an inline 8 but waaaayyyy back when.
