Since im pretty much done with teh rb-26 install heres some tips.
Youll have to make an oil pan or have the one on teh GTR (Aluminum Diff housing) cut and fabed into and oil pan. for teh z teh sump and oil picup have to be reversed which is a pain in teh ass ;>. as for motor mounts teh z31 fairlady z came with an optional rb-20 in it. teh oil pan and right motor mount get you a good starting point for teh mod. teh left mount will have to be made.
for transmissions anything but an r-33 GTS-T tranny would be a serious weak link in teh drivetrain. this mission is exactly teh same internals as teh gtr just not 4wd. If you dont have an r-200 lsd or better youll need to upgrade that.
Engine management.... SDS best way to go and also teh cheapest unless you have access to teh wireing diagrams for the gtr to figure how to hook up the stock ecu.
all in all i think its a really good upgrade. i dont think you could get a turbo L to 400+ HP fro even close to what i have into my car and mine will be a reliable daily driver at that. Bolt on a t-78 and upgrade injector and your looking at 500+ Hp at low booste settings.
BUT IF YOUR NOT IN JAPAN OR HAVE ACCESS TO ALL TEH JAPANESE PARTS YOULL NEED I DONT RECOMMEND THIS SWAP. I would say at least 50 % of teh stuff i was able to do really cheap wojld cost an arm and a leg in teh states becaus of teh lack of parts.
anywyas if your still interested here is a couple of links to my latest pics. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9886019&p=33733466 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9886019&p=33733465 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9886019&p=33733463 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9886019&p=33733462

i understand teh weight thing but why an sr-20? if you wanna do a swap and get 300 hp reliable do an rb-26 dett. I'm about a week from getting my running. teh engine is bone stock turbos too. the only thing upgraqded is injectors (720cc) engine management (sds)
and intercooler (Trust 2 core) and at .8-1.0k booste the motor will produce a very streetable and relible 400+HP !!! only drawbake is teh engine is expensive if your not in japan. mine was 3000.00 but ive seen it as high as 7000 in teh states.
ive attached a url for a pic of the engine in teh car http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9886019&p=32569673
have fun with whatever you do

Great choice.... 400-500hp with stock tubos and motor.
im in the process of getting mine running. gonna run either 720cc or 1000cc injectors. but its gonna be real hard if your not in japan. motors are running in teh 7000-8000 range in teh states. good luck

if your gonna go for a swap go fro teh rb-26 dett. a stock rb-26 will get you well on your way to low ET's check the rb-26dett thread

hey
what do you guys think of the rear overfenders on teh car . im thinking they look a little too big (rears)http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9465020&p=32569673 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9465020&p=32716399 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9465020&p=32716400 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9465020&p=32716402 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9465020&p=32716404 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1278065&a=9465020&p=32716405

I also thought that the 720cc inj would be too much but with sds you can get a really good idle out of them and i wont have to upgrade down the raod if i change turbos ;> If i hadnt seen it i still wouldnt believe it. a friend of mine ran 720 inj on a ca-18 silvia over here (1800 cc disp) running SDS and it started right up and drove on teh steet well ;>
this setup with moderate booste levels should be in the 350-400 hp range (bone stock) with the inj upgrade and sds :>

Pete,
they guy is japanese and not sure if he has a translator on his computer. i emailed him also as i have not seen alot of stuff on his car before. If you can get someone that read japanese i think alot of how he did stuff is on his page.
OWEN,
The RB swap into the old z 's and skylines is the biggest trend right now. The shop im going thru to do the swap says the sterring wont be a problem as long as i use a turbo maniifold that puts the turbo on top instead of the bottom. the stock turbos will fit fine.

i have lots of pics. give me a place to send them ill send pics of all kinds of skylines and rhd Z and the way the japanese like to set them up heres a URL of a guy on the mainland. i think this is where all japanese would like to have there z eventually. http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity/1147/FairladyZ/main.html the big trend here in japan is the rb25 and rb26 conversion.

It is a turbo so its gonna have some lag but with teh exhaust housing compressor housing combo itll wide up pretty good. I plan on running through a dyno in a month or 2 after its done and ill post teh numbers.
1100 HP with stock bottom end ..... i dont think so!!!!! they are only good to around 600 and thats pushing it. I dont know where you heard teh skyline were going with V-8 but it is not true. the japanese only do teh v-8 in there big boat cruser cars not performance anyways later guys

Hey guys i live in japan and i am currently building a 260 z. I saw a couple of threads asking about the rb-26dett conversion. They do it all the time here in japan and im getting it done to my LHD US spec Z. im not using the stock turbos im going with a 62-1. For anyone who has seen the rb-26dett in action it is an amazing engine and although intial investment in the engine and installation is high you can get an easy 500 reliable HP on the stock bottom end without having a loud rumbling high HP v-8. (not saying that its bad ;>)
