  1. Theres also the new Hyundai Accent. I thought it was quite decent for the price, and it gets ~40 mpg. I rented a Kia with the same engine in noVA. $30 got me from DC to North Carolina...
  2. They re-use the numbers, probably every year. SB 1953 is about hospital construction (seismic retrofit) from 1994 Maybe I should preemptively replace my 83 with an 80
  3. I've been going through this for the last couple years too. My conclusion was northern VA (VA instead of MD cause my wife wants in-state tuition to Virginia schools when she goes back), but not necessarily NOVA - I've looked at jobs in Alexandria, Arlington, DC, to as far out as Winchester. But then I stumbled on a job in Savannah, GA and applied on a whim. Coastal GA is VERY cheap compared to NE, NOVA, or California . Still don't know if I would actually go through with it - but weather can't be too much hotter and more humid than NOVA really. Technically, nothing east of the Mississippi is as hot as what I deal with here, but 10% humidity in the summer makes it much more bearable.
  4. The rear end makes me agree. Defiantly a M car. not a 3000m, they had Ford Essex V6's. Probably not a 1600M either, Ford Kent 1.6 in them.
  5. All the later manual cars had R200s. And auto 2+2s had R180s. Having had an 81 manual 2 seater and an 83 2+2 auto, neither turbo, I've seen it first hand.
  6. They don't have the 2+2 online anymore. I've never been to that one, but the Rocklin and Rancho yards usually have a few s130 (all 2 seaters, so not great for me) and occasionally late s30s.
  7. Then that HF wasn't in tip top shape . The EPA rated them at 42 city/50 highway. I've heard up to 60 highway. But if a CRX isn't your style, a Civic VX hatch got about the same mileage (rated 1 or 2 mpg worse). Of course, fanbois love them and they are hard to find cheap anymore. So $2k, 20+mpg. non turbo Subaru? Esp. Impreza wagons. My WRX got about 18 in the city and up to 26 highway, n/a imprezas that weigh less should beat that, and 90s vintage ones sell pretty cheap, especially the 1.8 models. My first 2 cars (MkII and MkIII Jettas) would beat that mileage too, but by now they would probably be more trouble than their worth... I'm thinking a <95 Camry/Accord/Civic/Corolla would meet all your criteria (except camping, but they did make that Accord wagon...).
  8. +1 to all of this, although I've only played with the prosumer Canons (30D/40D/50D/etc). A further note about flashes: Canon's flashes suck. They are stuck in the 80s compared to the functionality of Nikons. They don't even have PC ports! Or any external hook up ports for that matter. In the 80s and early 90s, Canon was so far ahead in AF, most pros (esp sports and journalism, the seen pros) switched from Nikon to Canon. Now they are so similar there is no reason to change. Before the mid 80s, no one worth their paycheck shot with a Canon, they were amateur at best
  9. I test drove a Spec B when I got rid of my WRX. It was pretty sweet! But not economical in any sense of the word
  10. Another "problem" with the truck engines is that the intake manifold won't fit under a stock hood. IMHO, besides displacement, that is the only "problem" with truck engines
  11. Good luck! If you've got a BSE, I'm sure you'll find business school a cinch . I did my MBA 5 years after my Architecture degree. I wasn't working at the time, so it only took me a year to finish the program. It did help land a job afterwords though
  12. Take a look at the air mix screw on the TB too. That was the cause of my looping idle (auto though). I've got to keep all the crap if I want to pass smog . Which I did easily 3 months ago
  13. I've been toying around with the idea of a EFI 302 in my s130 2+2. I was originally thinking a Toyota/Lexus DOHC V8, but there are many more hurdles with that choice over a domestic V8. Anyway, I'm looking for help/suggestions for an automatic tranny to go with it. The car is an auto already, so keeping it that way would be one less thing to worry about. My plans are for an EFI 302, with Megasquirt - no Ford ECU. Mainly a driver/fun car - not a track machine, but it'll see some quarters. I figure the MS rules out an AOD-E or newer. So in my limited Ford knowledge, I think it's narrowed down to a C-4, C-6, or AOD. The AOD seems like the right choice, but I have no idea other than, hey, it's an overdrive transmission from a Mustang... Am I missing some good transmissions? Is the AOD the cream of the non-electronic, OD crop? **disclaimer car won't be registered in CA, so no need to smog or register the swap**
  14. In some states, like Michigan, the only things that are explicitly illegal (for state highway use) are slicks and N2O. You can get some wild stuff on the street in that case (breaking several federal laws, but that's besides the point )
  15. Everything in front of the firewall is identical.
