  1. Man that thing gets it! Would you be will to show pics of your exhaust and header routing? Not many LS turbo cars with the exhaust exiting the rear of the vehicle.

You can start about page 3 of the build thread. I have almost 1K pictures of this thing, so please forgive me for not wanting to sift through them all.

You can check out my photobucket if you like. They are all on there as well.

  2. Get a 2.66 1st gear unit. These cars are light enough you don't need the extra motivation to get them going.

F Body trans is good in stock form, can hold good power (700+) with a few drop in parts

T56 Magnum is great, with larger holding capacity.

As Keith stated, stay away from the CTSV unit as they have a CV output rather than a slip yoke, making the connection a bit more difficult.

  3. Entered the stick class at the local no prep last night and made some good rips.

Here's the fast pass of the night.

I ran a 6.47, 6.30, 6.35, 6.36, and spun hard to a 6.60 and lost the final to a good friend who killed it in his 5.0 coyote YSI Mercury Capri at a 6.20@115.

And a picture of me on the 2 step. She is VIOLENT.

  4. Took the car to the track for the first time since...... shit, since drag week 2014 -_- ...

Pulled my trailer and gear over an hour there, and made three passes. Two of which are personal bests for the car!

Launched out of boost, and ran out of gear a good 75' before the traps. I'm just happy I still remembered how LOL

  5. Whats heads you running? hoping for the same numbers from a stock truck motor with a cam, springs, and BW s480. I have the 892 heads.

    Untouched 706's.

Maybe you will have to bring it out to the next MAP proving grounds event in September if you are moving to the citys. I am hoping to have mine making passes by this event.

We'll see - it looks like a cool event.  I'm getting married the following weekend however, so it'll probably be my weekend to work.  I'll just have to see when it gets closer

  6. I'll dig up some pics later.

Turbo is a Turbonetics 7875 ball bearing with a .96 AR. housing (78mm compressor 75mm turbine)

Hot side is 2.25" stepped to 2.5" at the merge.

Exhaust is full length, 3.5" downpipe split to dual 3" before the rear axle, through Magnaflow Bullet mufflers.

Sadly I don't have video, though I know there's probably 20 people who had their phones out lol.

  7. Cruised the car an hour the a dyno day a few weeks back.  Long story short, I ended up getting peer pressured into putting it on the rollers.

    Mustang (heartbreaker) Dyno,

SBE 2005 Iron block, China head studs, LS9 Gaskets, Tick Turbo Cam, BTR springs, LS1 intake

    T56, 8.8IRS

    E70 Pump, 20# Boost.

Oh, and 24mpg on the highway!

    Anyway, here she is!

(704 HP / 697 Torque  for you out there not reading this on a big screen lol)

  8. I just ordered an f-body oil pan for mine. From what I've read it should give good clearance. I went with Jci mounts myself. Price wise I really wanted to go with dirty dingo mounts but not enough info for me to be happy with. Have to say I'm glad I did! John is easy to deal with, answered emails fairly quick, and no problem answering any questions. Shipped them out Tuesday and showed up here in t-town Thursday. If only the local parts houses had that kind of service my job would be a lot easier!

The baffling and ground clearance of the F body pans are both inferior to the LS3 vette pan. If you upgrade the baffle in the F body pan with an improved racing, that pretty much cures it ($$$). It still hangs an inch lower however.

Thanks to Nate and Starkweather tuning, we were able to get a nice base tune on the car. Found out I need co2 to get over 15lbs of boost with this tiny turbo though! Still, made good power for 15lbs of boost.

Looking forward to making some passes in the next month or two, and maybe getting back on the dyno with 5-10psi more boost!

Thats making good power. What are the motor specs?

  10. Sunny Z, do you have any pics of your custom frame rails going back up towards the rear end? Basically the extension you added to the very back. What did you do about the rear sway bar being in the way of the extension pieces? Just not use it?

Awesome build by the way! This thread is a great inspiration for some of the modifications I'll be making to my car as I restore it.

It doesn't look like I have any pictures of that, but the extension is pretty simple. I just angled it up to the structural piece near the front edge of the "hump" as you're looking behind the seats, where it steps up about 6".  There are some U channel pieces that run side to side from the wheel well to the transmission tunnel on both sides (at least on my 280).  I notched the end of the square tubing (think of a fish with an open mouth) to fit, and cut the floor back so I could weld 360 degrees.

In regards to the sway bar, I took it off when I did the 8.8 swap, if not before.  It handles just fine.

  11. I hear this all the time, but honestly my car was running 10s on motor with the 6 speed on a pretty unimpressive engine.

Also if it was that easy to "just put a glide in it and run 8s" then I wouldn't be one of the only ls Zs running 8s.

Sorry man I can't tell you how tired I get of people telling me "if I just did x I would run 8s no problem." Try actually doing it, it's not that easy.

My car made 440whp all motor and ran in the 10's with a 6 speed as well....at 3100+#, and IRS.

    Potato Tomato

Running 8's isn't easy, you're right. I also want to take this chance to say that I think you have built one bad ride. However, being the fastest at the track isn't my goal - that should be obvious.  If I'd built a car to go straight, it would have a solid axle and an automatic. Until then, I'll be rowing gears, impressing highschool kids, and enjoying the shit out of my car.

  12. In for cars that make power and don't run fast. You boys might be forgetting something ; 6 speed.  I could have put a glide in my car and gone 8's last year, but I decided to 'stick' it out.  I was able to leave in boost 1 time last year, and the car did very well for the setup. It ran 9.7@151 with a 1.47 60'  - This was at over 3100# with me in it.  I'd like to get it into the sub 9.50's this year, as its making more than enough power to do so.  It needs front suspension BADLY (evident if you've ever seen this thing go down the track). But needs some other changes to optimize the setup as well (trans gear ratios).  All in all, it should be a fun year, though I won't be contending for the fastest LSX datsun award.

  13. Made a few dyno passes, but ran out of injectors (80lbers). Maxed out in the low 900rwhp. The tuning was done by Nate at AOP in Fresno. Car drives like its stock, but makes an insane amount of power.

After that, the only thing left to do, was go to the track again!

    80-cruisin_bcfff4edc017540bd4b124fa83d05

Car drove nicely the 100 miles each way. This is about as hot as it got, which considering the blower setup ran around 215 on the freeway was AWESOME.

Car did well, still only 15-16lbs of boost, but we adjusted the suspension a bit. I plan on going a bit faster this year. :D

I believe this pass is the fastest pass for an LS powered Datsun to date.

Sadly, a few passes after my 8.7, I saw a drop in oil pressure on the return road (About 15 at idle down from 30), so I trailered the car home. Motor still ran perfectly, but I didn't want to hurt anything. I was planning on refreshing the engine and going for low 8s, but I picked up a new motor to play with so now I'm going to either sell the longblock as it sits if anyone is interested, refresh it and sell it for more money, or part out all the components.

Haha mine ran the best before it died, too. only it was a 9.7@150 lol. Gotta love the ol 6 speed chevy supra!
