  1. We have not gone over specifics yet. But yes this would most likely be replacing the dash peice and still utilizing the steel structure. BUT we may go another route using the carbon fiber braces to actually mount it to the car. As we all know CF is very strong stuff so the steel frame may not be needed. We have been discussing the subject on OEM replacement guidelines so this may very well be a trash your stocker and drop in a CF one. I will post up info as I come across it. We are still deciding wether to patch my dash and make the mold or try and source a good one to start with.

  2. Spoke to my guy today and I got some details. It would be a 6 layer peice with a show glamour finish. The dash will be a "factory" replacement with all stock mounting places. He has only seen pictures but is estimating the dash to run anywhere from 1,000 to 1,200. This number is pretty solid. He says it will only take a week and a half once I drop a good dash off for him to build the two peice molds. I will probably start a group buy thread to get concrete numbers on buyers. If I can get 5 or more confirmed buyers ill eat the cost of the mold and sell some on ebay for 1,500 or so to recoup the cost. Of course my fellow Z members get it at cost :)

  3. So i decided to drop the Diff to see what i had going on. So far the previous owner has told me that the DIfferential came from a 1995 Q45 and up untill about 20min ago i assumed that the q45's came with the r230.. Well i have been doing some research and it appears they came with a VLSD shornt nose r200?? My part number on top of the diff is as follows: 38311 43M10 The ratio on the back of the ring gear reads 46:13 and it appears that someone had marked 230 on the ring gear in paint pen from the factory.

And then i see this which is a short nose "r200" and it looks exactly the same as mine..

Im confused..What the HELL is this thing? I need to order the front pinon seal to keep it from leaking as well as a new rear cover bolt/gasket and now a damn cover becuase i broke a tab off upon removable. I cant do any of that untill i find out what exactly this thing is.

  4. It would most likely only be 280 dashes. This friend that builds custom carbon fiber parts has been doing it for 20 years. He does it for a living and has everything you would ever need to construct anything from composite materials. Don't worry about stepping on my toes as i am not here to make a profit, at the most ill get enough people to buy one so that i can get mine for free.. I imagined the price to be around a grand as well. Ill let the thread sit a week or so and see what kind of interest i get before pursuing the idea

  5. I have a friend that builds one off carbon fiber pieces and im considering asking him to quote me on a price for a full carbon fiber dash. If the price is right I will tell him to make a decent amount of them. I know there is a select few here that would love to have one and possibly a small market within hybridz. The question is what do you guys think is a fair price for one? What is to much and what would you guys be willing to pay for one? I haven't the slightest clue what is involved in getting one of these built but I know I would love to own one.

  6. The front of my q45 diff is leaking. I've identified the culprit as the pinon seal. I called te dealer up to order a new seal and he is telling me there is 3 different seals for that diff. Does anyone know a quick way to ID the different model diff's? I purchased the car with the diff installed and have no idea exactly which one it is. From what I've been told it came from a 95'

    Thanks in advance

  7. Bearings are made of brass and some kind of coating , i think . What you found could be a lot of things , timing chain and sprockets , rings , cylinder walls anything that's made out of metal/iron . Like i said , i see it all the times . Unless you see big flakes or chunks , i wouldn't worry about it . Is the motor knocking or making strange noises ?

Nope, I've heard the same thing from alot of other people about this being common. I've just never seen it myself so I freaked out. Alot of the bearings I deal with at work are made from steel so I just assumed most where the same. Only small parts of them are brass. Thanks for help Domsz

  8. Yeah I've heard of the oil pickup tube issue before. I had a feeling she's been running rich but not way to tell just yet (no AF guage) this is the first time I've seen this on the bolt. Althought this is only the second oil change I've done on it. A guy from ls1tech thought it might be an graphite lubricant alot of engine builders use but I don't see why it would magically appear this time around
