  1. First off, hello there, my name is Brad. I am new here... and yes this is another SHOULD I BUY THIS post so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've been searching my local area and nearby states for a Z car (specifically pre 1979... no ZX). I am planning on doing a budget build and not a restoration. I will be going for the classic JDM look (fender mirrors, flairs etc.). I am a performance car enthusiast and currently daily drive a 2011 Subaru STi, however performance is not my end goal. I already have a great performance car so I want something that looks different for cruising and taking to some shows. I love the way the classic Z cars look, even stock they are gorgeous. This may upset purists but imperfections don’t bother me and this car will be far from perfect for some time. The imperfections are character and show history. That being said I don’t want a complete ROT project, as many don’t. After searching I found what I think is the best deal I’ve seen so far and plan on going to check it out today with CASH in hand but would love to hear some opinions and words of caution from those more experienced than I. Here is the ad: http://columbia.craigslist.org/cto/4576768231.html This car is just up the road so it’s a lucky find in my opinion. Some more information from the guy after talking with him and looking at pictures he sent me. - The floor pans are not rusted through, only surface rust. - The electrical issue is because he had someone else wire the car and they used the wrong harness. Everything works (lights, turn signals etc) just some of it is mixed up, like the wipers are turned on VIA the defrost button . So nothing major and something I will fix. - He checked the wheel wells and strut tower areas and said nothing was rusted through (I will confirm this) - The car was originally from Texas but spent 2 years in Connecticut, that’s where the little bit of rust came from. It now resides in Columbia, SC. I originally set out to find a carbureted setup to eliminate EFI and having to work with ECU/tuning. I currently do that on my STi but it can be tougher than making adjustments to a ye ol’ carb setup. However he said it runs great and has no issues so I shouldn’t have to touch the engine much at the moment. The only issue comes in when I do have to. Maybe someone can shed some light on this part, is it a good setup, easy or hard to work with and so on. I think that is the only thing holding me back at the moment (besides the obvious that I haven’t seen it in person yet). I know I’m forgetting some small details so I will update if I can think of anything. Thanks in advance! Purchase
  2. Like the title states, I'm looking for a clean 4 BBL intake. I prefer the first two--Bob Sharp Racing or Arizona Z Car. If it's a Cartech adapter it must be extremely clean. The only reason I'm posting this is because Arizona Z Car is currently out of stock for the next couple weeks. PM me or let me know on the thread with price, details, etc. Thanks

  4. Hello HybridZ, I am in search of a Datsun 240z/260z/1975 280z in the Orange County, CA area. I prefer a rolling chassis, but a car with a motor is okay. I will be swapping in a Weber powered L28 race motor, so I would rather not spend money on a motor I will not use. I will be upgrading to an R200 differential so i wont need a diff or half shafts either. Rust is okay to a certain extent... Nothing too major. Missing interior is okay, as long as the dashboard with gauges are there. Id prefer not to spend more than $2000 for a roller, but I may be willing to spend more for a roller with zero rust and/or upgraded suspension components. I AM willing to purchase an out of state car, provided there are plenty of photos showing its condition and it isnt too far to drive and pick it up. Ill consider shipping a car here to SoCal. Thank you all for your time -Never2BeFinished I can also be reached by cell phone, (949) 322-72zero3. Texting preferred due to sporadic schedule, but I can always return calls later.
  5. Hi Guys, I've been a long time z owner but this is the first time I'm reaching out to the community for help. I have an early 1974 260z (in the attached pic), and have been eyeing the early 240z type bumpers that hug the body. I've found a guy parting out his 1970 240z, and he has the bumpers for sale. Does anyone here have any experience making these fit? I've gone through the forums here, and although I did find a lot of people wanting to go from the bigger late 260z/280z bumpers to the slimmer ones on 240zs, I haven't been able to find much on the early 260z bumper to early 240z bumper conversion. I spoke to one of the employees at MSA and he pointed out that there was a slight tweak to the bumpers after 1973(?), so what I want to look for is the bumper from the earlier 240z models. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as information pertaining to this early 260z is hard to come by. Thanks for your help in advance!
  6. Soooooooooo I have always wondered what a 1970 dodge daytona wing would look like on my 280z. Obviously if I were to do it I would have to "shrink" it down. Anyone else think I should waste my money on trying this? If I do ill attach photos at a later date.
  7. Well im new to the whole datsun/nissan scene and I found what seems like a good deal on a z32 LSD on my local Craigslist and was wondering if A _ It's a possible swap and B_if it is possible what modifications would have to be made. Thanks guys oh and by the way, admins, if this post is plain stupid I would not be offended if you deleted it.-Grayson PS- I also found a set of Z32 brake calipers you can swap those too with a little modification can't you? Sorry for the noob-iness
  8. I am looking for the 2 x plastic side panels that go into the rear compartment. Must be for a 2+2 (either 260z or 280z). They each have perforated holes in the lower corner and cut-outs to fit. I will take items with minimal damage as long as they are not split or cracked. Also, need them to be shipped to Australia. Thanks.
  9. Hey all I'm at odds with what to decide on doing and need some suggestions (some advice wouldn't be bad either.) Well here's my dilemma; I have a bmw M50B25 out of a 1992 325is complete with everything except the flywheel and clutch in my garage and I wanna know what you guys think of swapping it into a Z would be like or should i just stick to swapping init the L26 with the round top SU's I got with the car? If i were to swap in the M50b25 i would want to run boost on it because stock they can handle a conservative setup of 8-12psi, but the real dilemma is that I'm kinda unsure of the swap because It's never been done before and I don't really want to open up a pandora's box of problems. People have told me that the engine is relatively simple but that's not always the case. Anyways I'd gladly appreciate any input you guys have as to this swap. Oh and the engine itself is a stand alone system so wiring shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
  10. I started adding my recent progress onto an old posting over in New Members and I realized since I am posting my Z project progress, I should be posting here instead. Here is the link to the progress I've posted so far. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/89572-260z-in-erie-pennnsylvania/ Little history: I bought my Z in November of 2009. Build date is 12/73. The original color was 307 metalic blue. Someday I want to change the color. Not sure what color yet. Don't let the reasonably clean outer appearance fool you, because it did fool me. It has its fair share of rust and I'm now starting to work on it. My other post shows my start to fix rust on the passenger fender. Here are a few pic of the door progress so far. I did finally weld on the patch panel I made for the bottom of the door. I have much more rust to fix. Thanks Dave
  11. Newb here. Building a 260z and would like to run the stock fenders with no flares. I like the look of the XXR 527 16x8.25 +0 but cannot find anyone running them. Does anyone have any experience with these wheels (quality? they are relatively inexpensive) or knowledge of rubbing / fitment? Thanks all.
  12. WTB 260z carb choke cable assy. Let me see what you have... Thanks
  13. I'm a newbie to this site and i'm blown away by the depth of information that has been compiled. i'm about to pull the trigger on this engine and trans combo...with only 22k miles on them. Does anyone have comment about this engine/trans combo? Is it recommended to swap out the R180 diff to something else? Suggestions? Also, can I utilize my current drive shaft? I appreciate your time in responding. I'm attaching a pic of my car that I'll be swapping into.
  14. Hey guys my name is Joe Apostol. I'm pretty new to the Datsun scene. I live in Lansing, Michigan and in November of 2012 I purchased my first Datsun. I bought a 260z that came from North Carolina and looked like it had sat in the woods for a few years. I picked it up for $2300 with 80k miles, an l28 and 5 speed swap, rear disc brake conversion and it also came with a new exhaust and all new suspension/bushing throughout. I drove it for the first day I owned it and then put it in the garage and started working on it. Updates will be every couple weeks as I work a lot and am a full time student. So here are the pictures. I look forward to your comments and any advice you may have. Thanks The day it arrived at my house. I bought it and had it shipped to me Gutted it later that week Took out the center console and tried to fix some of the cracks so it wouldn't fall apart. I plan on buying a new one eventually Started installing carpet ripped off the exhaust cut a piece of the floor out and welded in a new patch bought a non webbed non egr manifold. Going to port it for the 60mm tb I bought Cut a hole in the turbo manifold so I can weld in my wg Installed the new cylinger head, been resurfaced, 5 angle valve job, also installed a cometic mls headgaske and arp head studs The worst of the rust, I cut most of it away since the picture and i'm going to fiberglass over it Brand new Greddy td06h 20g 76. trim Wastegate and dump tube. still have to weld it to the manifold I think that's about it for now.
  15. So I finally got my hands on an early 74 260z. I've had several z31's and an s130 so I'm not new to the z game... I just have some things I need advice on. I received a solid rolling chassis, boxes of parts and one l28 na (n42 block and n47 head) that has an l26 intake and what looks to be earlier SU carbs. I also received an l28t (f54 block and p90 head) that's missing the turbo but not down pipe... I was told both were good engines turbo coming out of a wrecked car with right at 100k, and na being an l26 (incorrect) that was a fresher bottom end. So let me drop in a few pics to keep some attention... Original color, Ok now for the questions, I'd like to build the na block with higher compression. I'm coming across conflicting info... Can I pick up some flat top pistons and that up the compression to around 10 to 1? Along with a lumpy cam (not so much to sacrifice power or push it to far up in the rpms). Also some port work on the heads with some valve seats/seals. And of course a full gasket kit, timing chain and bearings if needed. I've read the block is fine to build and the head is an ok flow'er plus I'm not looking for anything wild. I'll figure out what I will do with the l28t later. I'm aware of the potential just have an 88 na2t z31... The usual places for parts are turning up null. Recap, Pistons where? ITM can be had on eBay, good/bad? Compression numbers with nothing but flat tops... Cam suggestions, supporting mods? N47 tricks? Parts sources... My z31
  16. So i recently purchased a 4/1987 z31 turbo 300zx donor for my s30 l28et project. Originally I planned to fix her up and make her my daily for a while, unfortunately the HOA has issues with my roomates and i having several cars parked outside. Therefore I have to pull the parts i need for my s30 so i can get it off the street. I know for a fact that i can use the transmission, differential, rear brakes, and ecu. I think i might have read once that i could use the axels and half shafts as well. Is there any other parts that you guys would recommend that i should pull off of the donor car while it is still available? Any advice or suggestions that could be offered would be greatly appreciated. I have done my research and to my knowledge this is all that i would need off of the z31. i would hate to sell it and wish i had pulled something more. I know these builds are quit common so any other helpful hints or advice would be awesome. Any other forum suggestions would be helpful too i tried searching this topic and nothing came up so sorry to start a new thread if one already exist. cheers
  17. Hello fellow z owners i would like to see how much horse power i would be looking ad with an engine of these specs. >l28 >n42 head, ported polished, Lift(In/Ex): .560/.560. Duration(In/Ex): 300/300, kameari big valves >n42 block, ross forged 1mm over high comp pistons, 1mm head gasket >kameari high performance oil pump >later electronic distributer from 280zx >ztherapy su carbs >msa 6-1 headers 2.5" exhaust system Engine will also be about a 10.5:1 compression ratio
  18. Hi, I made a video about replacing the half shaft u-joints on my 1972 240z. So without further adieu... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/u3sU2SCmDk8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> If you have and comments I'd like to here, please keep it nice. Matt-
  19. I was having a problem with my driver side blinker and brake light, and because of that I made a video on how to fix it. enjoy!
  20. Hey hybridz i figured since its now getting colder up in mass and i figured theres not much i can do on my Z since im at college, id start my own build thread. I picked up a 75 280z back in may as a birthday present to myself i talked the guy down from $1500 to $800. i bought the car with 80,000 on the body and only minimal surface rust. There was no motor in the car but the guy included a 79 zx that I've ended up adding a turbo to. Along with the motor the only thing that was in the car was seat and dash but when i got back from picking up the car it was packed full with boxes. The day i went to see it The front end was chemically stripped and the car was painted once Home safe and sound With my car home i got to work stripping the body down to bare metal and priming the entire car. There was alittle bit of damage on the drivers rear quarter that i pulled the metal to get closest i could to original and then i used a light coat of body filler to get rid of the small dings. The passenger side was in good shape besides right by the door The front end was in pretty good shape I did a little bit of sound deadening Once i finished most the body work and the massive 280z bumpers gone i got to work on the motor. i was a bit worried going into the motor since it appeared some sort of an oil leak so i did most of the gaskets and got a new cam since mine snapped in half but i fixed that and got some new spark plugs and replace the intake manifold off a turbo motor(not in pics) with injectors etc. besides all the crap in the cylinders they were in great shape way better than i was expecting so i cleaned out the cylinders and block then painted the block i put everything back together and dropped it in i picked up a stock turbo manifold off ebay that had been ceramic coated i also picked up a small t3 garrett turbo that had zero shaft play but i didnt realize the wastgate had been welded so i had to buy a spacer with an external wastegate port but for $80 im not going to complain i traded my old guitar for a set of brand new american racing steelies with adapters Thats pretty much where im at with pictures the car is still model car status right now with me working diligently on trying to get it to start. i have the resistor delete with a 3ohm resistor coil and i have the distributor upgrade (which i think is why it may not be starting). i have Tokico 5022 F-R and im planning to pick up some illuminas after the holidays along with a new starter, alternator, distributor and a carpet kit. ill update whenever some progress is made please leave some feedback/ suggestions Thanks for reading Josh
  21. Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum (probably fairly obvious), but I do have an eBay account and am a member of a couple car groups on Facebook from my area. My eBay feedback is 100% positive and I've made purchases ranging from $10 to $750. I will gladly provide references upon request and do whatever I can to make the transaction more comfortable for you. I have a '76 280z, and I'm looking to get some parts to upgrade it asthetically. Here's what I'm looking for: - Air dam (280 style/no turn signal holes) - 240/early 260 bumpers - Adapter brackets for 240 bumpers on a 280 And they're not high on my priority list but if you have hatch window louvers or a rear spoiler I might be interested in those if they price is right. I'm also hoping to upgrade my exhaust system with headers and a new exhaust system, so the same thing applies for that. You can PM me here and/or email me at hpotency@hotmail.com. - Brandon
