  1. Anyone running the Silvermine stub axles for their subi r180 swap? Any comments you can share on the quality of them vs. the Wolf Creek (Beta) ones or the FutoFab ones? The looks and description is almost identical to the Wolf Creek (Beta) stub axles but they are almost $200 cheaper! http://www.silverminemotors.com/featured/lsd-r180-sti-out-output-flange-conversion-stub-axels
  2. Hi! This is my first post on hybridz. I'm 21 and have some experience as a home mechanic and have been tinkering with my 240z that I've had since high school. The car is a 72' 240z with amazingly little rust. However, the car has never ran reliably and had a rebuilt 'mystery' engine with e31 block and e88 head which I don't believe would be correct for the model year. Long story short, Eiji at Datsun Spirit is building me a 3.0 liter l28 that should make around 300hp at the crank. I've decided the best route would be the KA 5 speed swap and an sti r180 diff as this should be adequate for my power level and driving style and require the least amount of modification. I'd like to keep this car street-able as it is my cruiser and I don't plan on racing. I'd like some help from some more knowledgeable people on recommendations for the sti r180 diff. I know that there are 3.9's available although the 3.54 is much more readily available on eBay. I liked the feel of the stock 4 speed drive ratio so I wanted some recommendations on which ratio would pair best with the ka 5 speed Thanks, Alec ps. I included some pics of the car and DatsunSpirit engine for anyone interested
  3. Quick question hoping for a quick answer because i cannot find anything about this through a good deal of searching I have an STI clutch type R180 diff with a 4.44 gear ratio and i'd like to swap in my ratio from the original 1972 Datsun R180 3.364 (possible 3.545, but need to confirm) is this possible without any modification? I am getting really annoyed with my 70mph 3300rpm cruising speed, and the terribly short gear ratio.
  4. So I have a 1974 260z that I'm putting a sti r180 rear differential into. I've got a mustache bar and control arms from techno toy tuning, along with wolf creek cv axles. When I try to put the front mount of the diff in place it flexes the mustache bar and the differential seems to be tilted too high in the front. When comparing to the stock parts the rear cover on the diff has the studs in the same place and the two differentials look identical. The hole locations and offset of the original and techno toy mustache bars are correct but he factory steel bar seems to have a bit of twist. I can't tell what I'm missing here and wanted some input.
  5. Hi. Looking for an R180 with limited slip, 3.9:1 ring & pinion which doesn't need immediate admission to the Intensive Care Unit. Alternatively, could do with a fresh LSD unit to install in my existing 3.9:1 R180. Also, unlikely to find one, but looking for an Electromotive XDi (or XDi2) distributor-less ignition system for six-cylinder (box, three-coil unit, trigger wheel). I'm in Phoenix. Thanks.
  6. Hello everyone, I am new to the forum but have been lurking for a few years and reading as much as humanly possible. I have been working on a Subaru STI R180(3.9 ratio) for my ld28 240Z project and came across this post: http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/36312-turbo-diesel-questions/page-3?do=findComment&comment=289554 stating that his gear ratio is 3.36 is the lowest available for the R180 but more mpg gains could be had if lower ratios existed. That got me thinking if it is possible to fabricate a 3.13, 2.9 and 2.72 ratio ring and pinion set for the STI torsen R180. The machine shop that I go to for most of my custom fabrication needs has all the equipment to fabricate ring and pinion gears. I have brought them the STI 3.9 ring and pinion as well as the stock 240Z 3.36 ring and pinion as a sample and they told me that they just need the proper specifications to fabricate them. From what understand as the ratio lowers the diameter of the pinion increases and the gaps between ring teeth widen. Would the pinion be too large to fit in the housing? Is this the reason there are no lower ratios? I assume that a 3.13 set would be a 31 tooth ring and a 10 tooth pinion, a 2.9 set would be a 29 tooth ring and 10 tooth pinion, and a 2.72 would be a 27 tooth ring and 10 tooth pinion. is this correct? Thanks in advanced for any information
  7. Looking for an R180 open 4:38 diff (marked with a K on the top of the case). I will be replacing all the bearings and seals so that is not a concern. Shipping will be to 01730. Email to: john@baddogparts.com
  8. Wanted 81-84 Maxima R180 Differential w/ or w/ out CV axles from an automatic (3.70 ratio). If you know or have a lead on one please let me know. Needed for the 810 project. Thanks,
  9. Finally found a good price on a Subaru R180, so now I need the stub axles to go with it. I can't quite afford to pay more for the two pieces of metal than I did for the whole differential shipped. So, whoever is reading this, what kind of deal can you make me? New or used, doesn't matter if the price is decent. I would even be willing to take a "good customer discount" on new ones straight from Todd himself at Wolf Creek for the $200 work of jets I bought this summer I just need the parts and $500 is too much!!
  10. I'm looking for a good condition R180 to replace my worn out , clunking one on my 240z. Anybody have a spare one?
  11. Hi, I have a 1972 240z with some mods from the previous owner, so there are a few things that I'm not sure about. I believe that I have an R180 diff (because of the rectangular back cover). But the gear raito seems to be 3.70:1 (18 tooth blue speedo gear) and speedo is accurate as far as I can tell (my wife was in her car next to me verifying speed via cell phone... yeah... I'm high tech). The speedo was off by about 5mph, but thats because there was a 17 tooth (black) speedo gear in the trans, I switched it to the 18 tooth (blue) speedo gear and that fixed that. My tires are pretty much stock (well, stock size, zx rims) 205/7O/R14 so I don't think the speedo was off because of that. Here's the problem, I don't think Datsun/Nissan made an R180 3.70:1 For a Z car, at least, I have not been able to find any info about such a differential. I did a lot of research and I found that Nissan did make an R180 3.70:1 in the Maxima, Manual trans, but I have no idea if that's true (internet source) . I suppose it is possible that the previous owner put in a maxima rear diff. I know that there was an R200 3.70:1 in the 1979 280zx 2+2 with manual 5 speed trans, but I don't believe that I have an R200 in my car. Soooooo, I have no idea what kind of differential I have. I don't want to take the back cover off right now to look at the stamping on the gears. I would like to put a R180 4.11:1 in (that's from a 84-88 NA 200sx, right?), Or the R200 4.11:1 (85-86 turbo 200sx) Or any other 4.11:1 that is easy to swap into my 240Z. If you have any idea whats going on PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!. I'm stupmed, and I don't want to pull the diff cover off if I don't have to. Thanks in advance, Matt-
