  1. I have got myself a 240z with a 350 stroked to 383 swapped in it and I am beginning to realize I might be in over my head. It's got a 4l60e and a stock rear end. How do I go about finding a rear end upgrade that will fit my swap and hold 450 hp?
  2. I couldn't be any happier to announce that I have my 1978 Datsun 280z back in my possession after all these years. Way back when I was only eighteen years old, I had an amazing cousin that introduced me to Datsun's and specifically the S30 Series. At the time he owed a couple Z's. One with an LS swap and the other with a turbo kit. Once I experienced the awesomeness that these vehicles could put out, I was hooked! Just like that, I made my mind up that I had to have one. With my cousins help of course, we were able to pick up my 280z fairly quick. Happy to say that I got in a good couple years with the Z being my daily driver. During this time I began to go down a very dark path. Unfortunately the Z was not my priority during my "dark years". This lead to my car sitting at my dads for a good 6 to 7 years. Now that I am in a much better place in life, I was able to get the Z back in my possession. I decided that it would be best for the car to go straight to the shop and get some professional help. I have never claimed to be the best mechanic, so this seemed to be the best option. Unfortunately the shop had the car for close to a year. I have now paid a LARGE amount to get the car up and running like a top!! Now that I have the car back home I would like to start working on it myself. Again, I have always had help with the car so I feel very unworthy at the moment lol. This is where I would like your help. I will post all the pictures I have, in hopes that you all can point me in the right direction. Honestly I do not have many funds after paying for the shop bill, so I want to make it a point to do all the work myself that I can possibly handle. I have only had the car back for a few days now so I haven't been able to tag it due to the COVID mess going on. From the little bit I have been able to drive it, all seems to be running well! I do think that the next step I take will be upgrading the suspension and steering. Just from the couple short trips I have taken on the Z, its very obvious that the suspension is in need of some love. Happy that you all are here with your expert advice!   3. Hi Everyone! I'm new to the forum, but not to your posts of wisdom. I currently have a 1978 280Z (S30 not S130) that I acquired from a friend back in 2014 that was/is in need of a lot of TLC despite being nearly rust free. I wanted a Z, preferably the 240, ever since I was a teen (I'm 38 now) and even more so after being able to drive a restored one in 2011. Anyway, for 4 years the poor thing sat in my garage where I would go out and occasionally tinker with it, but never felt I made much headway. There are two very important things to know about the Z and I. First is that while I know how to perform general maintenance and some modifications on cars with I am by no means an expert, but rather a junior mechanic...if that. Second is that my Z came to me with modifications already done that, while awesome, left me largely at a loss on how to proceed. The Z has a 327 V8 from a '68 C-10 pickup and a 700R4 from the 80's/90's and the wiring in the engine bay and the dash is a mess. To the now, the Z (pictures to follow) has been professionally tended to by Lefty's Electric and after several months I am happy to report that all the electrical and fuel systems have been cleaned, tidied up, rerouted, etc and she starts right up on the first try! Now it's on to replacing the suspension, ALL the rubber and some minor body work.
  4. Hey all, I tried searching for these answers not only in the forums but on the vast interwebs as well and I guess I just haven’t seen the answer in plain English. I have a 1971 240 and it needs a lot of work (floor boards, sway bar mount on driver side [the factory mounting spot is...missing] no dash, no seats, basically a body with wheels, engine/driveline, and a lot of rust and bondo ). I would like to auto-x this car occasionally but still maintain “some” aspects of streetability. So, my questions... How strict are the limitations on “non stock” cars? I don’t have a ton of money, but I feel suspension is most important over power, what restrictions or “laws” are out there regarding coilovers and the like? What classes could I run my 240 in being a stripped down shell? As as far as engine, I know the car had triples before it came into my possession, currently has an unidentified header, unsure if they put a different cam in it...what should I expect as far as inspection at the track? With the safety aspect, when are full cages needed, and are roll bars a must for all modified cars? Any other helpful tips or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  5. So I've recently bought a 1977 Dark Blue L28E 280Z. Car has been sitting for about 10 years; I was told the car was stopped in working conditions, but it seems some work might be needed. Where do you recommend to start work on it before trying to ignite the engine? Oil and filter change? Spark plugs? Spark plugs wires? What would be the first thing to look for before running the engine, and the first thing to look after running the engine? I'm trying to bring back to life this grandpa by this time. I'll love to build it something near this: If anyone has info about this build ^ please be kind to share! Thanks for your comments
