Hi i have been reading through the forums and FAQ regarding CLSD types and wish to purchase a OS Giken unit but i am having trouble working out which one... Is the NS046-HA simply a straight bolt in apart from the bushes to go from 10mm to 12mm bolt holes for a 1976 260z? As this is what appears to be suggested in the threads i have read. The Distributor here in Aus suggested that the unit i need is the same as the SR20DET S13, which is part number NS044-HA according to the OS Giken website and that there were more than just minor modifications required to make it all work. As far as i know they don't stock the NS046-HA so its likely that i will have to order from overseas. Appreciate any feedback, Regards David

I purchased a 240z that had a r200 swap conversion installed including the CV's and Stub axles. I had also previously purchased an r200 CLSD and CV shafts. I went ahead and swapped in the CLSD I have known about binding issues especially in the 240's but when I measured the CV axles from the open diff compared to the CLSD they were the same size. There for i figured my car would not have binding issues. I had Previously heard a clunk and bind but i thought this was due to some play in the transverse link. Now that I've done more research I've discovered that my dumb ass should have purchased shorter shafts and not placed the original z31 CV's which was the clunk caused by axle wrap and bind. Ive drove about 50 miles on the CLSD and have started to hear a rotational clicking/ticking/clunk(Not Good as I know and once again I am a dumb ass for this) I heard the noise after heavy driving and putting real stress on the rear end. This leaves me with 3 questions: 1. Did I destroy the R200 CLSD? (I did have it inspected previously and everything looked great) 2. Should I bother with buying the shortened shafts, is the noise an internal differential problem? 3. If the diff is fine where has the majority of the damage inquired. What are your thoughts I am not sure what to do as I may have destroyed this diff. Please let me know what you all think. Thank you your inout is appreciated.

Hi Guys I am about to purchase a complete rear end setup from a 1978 280z. The owner claims the car was a manual, and I'm needing to know how to identify that the car really was a manual. I know that if the car was truly a manual, then the rear end is indeed a R200. Any tips or identifiers on the rear end or the car being a manual is much appreciated. I've been looking all over the internet and can't seem to find a decent priced ring and pinion vendor for a long nose r200? are they just no longer made or only priced ridiculously? Anybody have a place they like to go to? thank you

As the title reads I am looking to purchase an R200 Torsen/Gleason Limited Slip Differential. Ratios Im looking for are mainly: 3.7:1 and 4:11:1 But I am more than willing to look at alternate final drive ratios. Cheers HybridZ.

Some years ago I picked up an R200 along with the hardware to swap into an S30. It was supposed to be a viscous, and he said he pulled from an '88 turbo himself. The Guy had already had in his 240z, so he had fitted 2 4-bolt 'square' stub axles (the flange things that pop into the the diff, right?) that fit into the diff. One of them had been ground down to shorten the length of the shaft. It says 37:10 on the (ring?) gear. I've acquired a CLSD so I'm going that route instead. Besides, I did try it in my '78 for a while and was not impressed. Recently I've read that using the VLSD R200 is not viable because the spline count is unique and the '88 Shiro stubs have to be used. But it is clear, standard stubs fit into this diff. So what gives? 1) - either this is not truly a VLSD from an '88 shiro or 2) - the info on the incompatibilty of the Shiro VLSD is inaccurate I once visually compared the inside to an open R200 from a 280zx, and it was definitely different. What is it? Thanks for the help

Like it says, I want to buy a good, working T5 manual transmission out of an 82-83 280ZX turbo, and would also LOVE it if the properly modified driveshaft to fit a 240Z came with it! I have been looking for a while so I will offer +$500 (shipped or delivered to Reno area) to make this happen (more if it is in really good shape). Also, looking for a Limited Slip Differential. An R200 with the non-finned cover to fit a 240Z would be great. An R180 out of an STi with the half-shafts to fit a 240Z would be SUPER and I will pay top dollar for either. I pulled a r200 form a 87 turbo 300zx today. When i cracked it open did not look like a lsd or open diff . I was hoping someone could help me id it when i held the the drive shaft and spun one cv axle the other spun in the opposite direction when i spun the drive shaft the only one cv axle spun it did not have fins on the back of the case. im hoping its a lsd or vlsd all the r200s i came across so far you can see the spider gears very easy thanks for the help

Most won't, but I thought somebody here might be interested in this. It is a Kameari R200 3.154 Ring & Pinion Set. It is for sale on a Yahoo Japan auction. It has a buy it now of about $1000. I have done my research on this topic and i hate to start another thread but i am having a hard time finding a definitive answer to my question, specifically for my 78. Here it goes: I know that the r200 clsd out of the 87-89 turbo z31 models will swap into an s30 with the z31 billet adapters, it seems like it is a tight fit I would like to avoid axel wrap issues. I have read and heard several different scenarios to get them to properly fit. The first scenario that ive heard is that if you flip the cages with the z31 billet adapters the r200 will fit in. For the second scenario I have also heard that in some cases if you flip the cages and use two passenger axels (which are the longer axels) then the axel mates up perfectly. The third scenario is the simplest and i hope it works for me. I have read on a few different threads scattered through out the intra-web that since my 78 s30 already has a r200 differential that i wont have to flip cages or swap axels to get it to fit. It seems like every thread is different; some are saying that it works best if you only flip one cage and not the other, some say flip both, and others say swap out the drivers axel and don't/do flip both cages. Any advice would greatly be appreciated obviously i would like to get it right the first time with as little head ache as possible, any advice would be greatly appreciated especially if you have done this swap on a 78 s30 with the pre existing r200. I am planning on running an l28et with a fs5r30a so having the cv axles is crucial. Thanks y'all.

OK, I just want to be clear I looked around already, but I've found a lot of conflicting information on the subject. I want to swap the R200 open diff on my 280z for the CLSD from the 88 Z31. I already have the new diff, but I haven't gotten a chance to try and install it yet. So far I've gathered that this is a bolt on swap and the ONLY thing I have to do is swap the driveshaft companion flange. Now, Some people say that I need to take off the finned cover and put my old non-finned cover on. I'd like to retain the finned cover so my diff won't overheat. Is there a bolt-on friendly (read: no welding) way of doing this? z31 mustache bar or something? Is this even a real problem? Thanks guys.

Hi, I have a 1972 240z with some mods from the previous owner, so there are a few things that I'm not sure about. I believe that I have an R180 diff (because of the rectangular back cover). But the gear raito seems to be 3.70:1 (18 tooth blue speedo gear) and speedo is accurate as far as I can tell (my wife was in her car next to me verifying speed via cell phone... yeah... I'm high tech). The speedo was off by about 5mph, but thats because there was a 17 tooth (black) speedo gear in the trans, I switched it to the 18 tooth (blue) speedo gear and that fixed that. My tires are pretty much stock (well, stock size, zx rims) 205/7O/R14 so I don't think the speedo was off because of that. Here's the problem, I don't think Datsun/Nissan made an R180 3.70:1 For a Z car, at least, I have not been able to find any info about such a differential. I did a lot of research and I found that Nissan did make an R180 3.70:1 in the Maxima, Manual trans, but I have no idea if that's true (internet source) . I suppose it is possible that the previous owner put in a maxima rear diff. I know that there was an R200 3.70:1 in the 1979 280zx 2+2 with manual 5 speed trans, but I don't believe that I have an R200 in my car. Soooooo, I have no idea what kind of differential I have. I don't want to take the back cover off right now to look at the stamping on the gears. I would like to put a R180 4.11:1 in (that's from a 84-88 NA 200sx, right?), Or the R200 4.11:1 (85-86 turbo 200sx) Or any other 4.11:1 that is easy to swap into my 240Z. If you have any idea whats going on PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!!. I'm stupmed, and I don't want to pull the diff cover off if I don't have to. Thanks in advance, Matt-
