Hey guys. I've been doing an RB25DET swap into my 280z and I'm using a Wiring Specialties harness for the swap. When I finally hooked up my battery (cables already connected to the starter, no key in the ignition), the starter tried to crank. I don't know if I've missed a starting relay somewhere that I didn't see in the wiring diagrams or what. Without the key in the ignition the start signal to the solenoid shouldn't be hot, so I'm not sure why it's cranking. If i hooked up the positive & ground backwards would this ignore a start signal and crank anyway?

Hello all, long time, no see. Which is good since I typically only come here when something is bad... anyway I've got this problem, see? Started a bit ago, a little trouble getting the car to start. Classic *click* when I'd turn the key. Checked wiring on my starter, since one has come off in the past leading to this problem... not this time. I rock the car a little in desperation (I'm on a dirt road, quite far from civilization at this point) and somehow it starts up. Whew, I think. I get home. Try turning it on again? Click. all wires connected. OK, must be the batter -
Looks like the starter on my 1975 280z is going bad and before looking for a 280z starter I was wondering if there were any upgrades. I found another forum where someone mentions that a 300zx starter fits the 280z but it's an old post and no one ever went into detail or talked or asked about it after that one suggestion. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about doing this, would it just be a straight bolt on? Would it require any kind of rewiring? Should I just stick with a 280z starter? Thanks in advance!

Hello, Im having issues with my starter. Recently purchased a 260Z 2+2 and its an automatic. took her for a drive yesterday, after the first stop went to start her up and only got the good ole clicking sound. Figured the old starter was going. I jumped the sylenoid and she kicked right over. Came home bought a new starter from autozone. Installed it and it fired right up first go around. Kicked it off then went to start with the new starter again and it was freely spinning. Pulled the starter out and manual by hand pulled the starter gear out then re-installed. It worked once more and that w

Hey guys, been lurking/learning for a little while from old threads, thanks to all of you for all the great info I've used already. This is my first post because I can't seem to find anyone with the same problem. The car is my first Z and is a '73 240Z with a 400 sbc (stock w/ headers) and a Saginaw 4 speed. I took the car for a short drive one night, parked it, came out the next morning and it won't start. When I turn the key to "start" the starter bendix gear engages the flywheel but does not turn. When I jump the starter solenoid to the short post, same thing happens. When I jump it

It came off a 78 280z 5-speed. I believe its a Hitachi direct drive type but there aren't any markings and the label has faded. The solenoid is trashed and new ones cost more than a complete reman starter. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Starter-Remfd-Premium/_/R-REL444639_0226137554 I'm also inclined to purchase a gear reduction type, but I'd like to know if this is a good idea. All I've read is that the torque is higher and battery load less on the gear redux. Any other pros and cons for gear reduction vs direct drive? I appreciate you time!

So somewhere along the life of my s130, someone lost the keys. The ignition switch is messed up now from a PO using a screw driver to turn it to the on position, and there is a flip switch for the starter. Anyways, i bought a universal ignition switch from autozone, i tried to wire it up but just couldn't seem to get it. The blue plug that plugs into the original ignition, i found the battery wireand the starter wires, but can't seem to get it to where when the key is in the on position or acc to get anything to happen. Just wondering if anyone else installed one before and could help me in do
