The time is now for a possible 6 speed L28et swap made easy

Long time since I've been on this website because of my other car. But browsing 300zx websites I have figured out Jim Wolf Technologies now makes a swap kit for use of a 350z 6 speed on a 300zx.

How this kit works is it uses a 300zx z32 automatic bell housing and a custom adapter to mate the 300zx automatic bellhousing to the 350z 6speed manual gearbox. Crazy.

The 350Z & Infiniti G came with a very strong 6-Speed transmission that is starting to show up more and more at the auto recyclers, making for a reasonably priced option for other high-powered Nissans. Unfortunately, it sports an integrated bell housing, making this conversion difficult at best. By scrounging an automatic tranny bell housing from an automatic that was fitted to the same motor you are adapting to, this adaptor ties everything together. Either the 07+ 350Z Concentric Release Bearing or an aftermarket C.R.C. (Tilton) can be used. The no longer used VQ35 bell housing is cut away and the new adaptor replaces the original front sealing cover. This adaptor can mount a 6-Speed to a VG30DE(TT), SR20DE, KA24DE, or VH45DE engine. Adaptors for the VK56 and others will be available soon after the release of this adaptor. Contact Ben for release date or other information. 619 442-0680

But what I have reasoned out is. The bolt pattern on the 300zx manual and automatic bellhousing is the same. If I used one of 240hokes l28et to z32 transmission adapters, had a 300zx AUTOMATIC bell housing machined back, then use JWT 6 speed gearbox adapter, then the only missing piece would be a custom driveshaft and transmission mounts.

I do not have the money or the time to do this project but I figured I would post up this idea and hopefully someone will try it out!

So I called up and they will be working on a kit for the L28s also. They said they are a few months out and didn't give up any info on pricing. Sounds like something that will be a year out or so. I say that because, the Z32 kit should have been ready for sale back in April and still no pricing on that kit. Maybe taking the kits we have already and adapt that to the six speed will be the way to go.

Well, I might just try it out some time in the future. Right now I am stuffing a Z32 manual transmission into a 280Z using Austin's adapter plate (which is first class).

I switched the stock tranny to a BW T5 from a 83 ZX turbo about a year ago but I am not happy with it. It's rough and reverse is very loud. My bet is a newer transmission instead of the T5 rebuild. Same money really.

I'll switch to the 350Z option if this does not work out. Great that it is available.
