That money will cop a bagging from the US guys. They'll call you a rip off and say you can buy a whole Rebello motor for not much more.

What you need to understand is that things cost more in Australia. That's just how it is.

We are a long way from the States, so shipping can kill you.

We don't have as big a market, so production costs for parts are higher.

Our quality is better :oP

And we get paid more. So it's more relative anyway.

But, these PMC heads are becoming more common down here. And seem to be putting out the highest figures even more so now Les is on board.

"That money will cop a bagging from the US guys. They'll call you a rip off and say you can buy a whole Rebello motor for not much more."

Thanks for the insulting generality, but with all due respect: "Stuff It!"

While it MAY be true you can get a Rebello Engine Complete for 'not much more'... I don't see how it's invalid to state that fact. All it does is bring up an ignorant hypothetical that has ALREADY been discussed on this thread from the beginning.

Costs of stuff in Japan would likely get a bagging from the blokes in Australia, things just cost more there, it's a fact. They have a big market, but also don't begrudge a man his living as a specialist. And they get paid less, or more. It really is irrelevant.

If I want 360HP, I'll turbo a stock block and not look back...pocketing considerable change in the process. If you have a specification to meet, you pay to have it met. PERIOD! Doesn't matter where you're from.

When's the last time you guys got quotes on recasting heads? 35,000 Euros. Seems like $5,500 is pretty cheap when you consider the alternatives available to serious admirers of the marque.

Point being Tony, as you stated,

If you have a specification to meet, you pay to have it met. PERIOD! Doesn't matter where you're from.

It was just getting in early, before the usual banter started. We are just jelous down here on the pricing and availability you guys have!

How much can you buy a strong Rebello L30 for?

But then how much to ship it over here?

Its good to see that there are guys prepared to get local talent to do these builds here. The main reason we don't just go turbo or RB, is to push the n/a cars to the limits without changing classes for our racing.

Sorry for the off topic Peter.

Is there any more progress with the NC34 twin cam?

Funny, I thought for someone guaranteeing 360hp out of a head that $5500 seems right on the market, or not far off. At those levels you're talking about welding chambers, possibly welding intake ports to raise them up, and who knows what other goodies to get there. Point being, I've seen what $2-3k gets you here in the states and it's certainly not going to get you a full all out race head. It'll get you a really hot street motor, or a mild race motor, but if you're looking for every ounce, that's chump change.

As tony pointed out though, go to japan if you really want to spend money, or feel like you have cash burning a hole in your pocket. Everything is all perspective. There's a lot of reasons things cost different amounts around the world. We would all do best to not get offended at these differences.

i work hard to make the best heads and motors in australia .

Theres a old saying you get what you pay for , and i only work for people that wont the best and i work dam hard to keep them happy . yer there are people that think its a lot but there not asking for a race head , sorry for the rant

I would agree 100%: you get what you pay for!

This stuff takes time, and parts aren't cheap.

The going rate out of electromotive in the early 80's for a competition prepped L24 head was around $3500. That was 1980's dollars, take a quick trip to the CPI Inflation Calculator, and retire the argument that pricing has changed. If anything it's come DOWN SLIGHTLY!!!

Long and short of it is if you are actually a real competitor and not a casual (or even serious STREET) enthusiast, the pricing actually becomes moot. If its what you need to win, and if you want to win, you GET IT.

They have a name for people who "bag" about the costs without ever buying the part: "LOSERS" !

In more polite terms: "Podium Places 2, & 3, followed by the rest of the field"!

And just in case you cant find that inflation calculator, that $3500 Race Prepped L24 Head from Electramotive would run you $8320 in 2012 dollars.

So yeah, due to CNC, rapid prototyping, and computer technology making equipment cheaper to do better machining, it's CONSIDERABLY CHEAPER TODAY to get a full-on competition prepped head than it was "back in the day"!

$5,500 would be considered cheap. Anybody who doesn't thin so should well weigh the facts set forth in this particular post. I know the guy with the comp prepped head, and saw the invoice. To this day it sits, preserved in his garage. Perhaps when he dies, I'll get it... But it actually cost $3500 in 1982 to have that work done.

Consider well the wisdom of your elders, "they were there" and might have a different perspective than youngsters with no interest in history!

I agree with everything you said Tony, with the exception of that last line, which went into my brain sounding like "Bah humbug!". ;)

I would also like to point out that this thread is very teasing: It aludes to an intriguing subject of RB26-head-on-L, and yet, nothing much about that recently. I get Peter is running a business, but I do wish whoever/whatever was financing that build would pull their finger out and get it done. I wanna hear/see that. :)

Well, at least I've proven that there are guys willing to spend the coin on good bits.

Which was actually my goal, as I have a PMC L30 myself.

But I'm with Helix. This build should have its own thread and get back on topic of the RB26 head!

Helix, your interpretation is probably a much tamer version than what i was conveying. Scrooge was a man of means and standing within his community and decorum dictated his speech.

We wild colonials, suitably freed from Pom strictures of clothing and speech are prone to a much more colourful and salty turn of phrase!

I personally own no black stockings!

Thanx Mods! Don't know where that was coming from...

Maybe see you in a couple of weeks Peter! One night layover in Sydney between Noumea and LAX.

I better check my ETA for Oz, I think it ran out in March!

post-26847-062409300 1340575724_thumb.jpgHi all

this one is L18 BUT ITS 2.3L with a KA24 head

We make the crank and crank gear , the tenchener is a L28 type that we feed oil to the slack side is SR 20 , we drill and tap the block to fit it, there is lots of work in there ...

This engine makes 300hp on the engine dyno and we now make a 2.6L from a z24 block that is a real torque monster
