Before calling State Farm I wanna know about estimated repair costs. If it's not insane, wanna fix it even it costs a bit high. And suggestions for good body shops having knowledge of old Zs would be greatly appreciated. Frame seems to be twisted much. When you see the last picture you can see the driver's side seat position is a bit higher than the passenger side. Suggestions with good body shop with knowledge of Z around Pasadena or Socal Area would be very appreciated as well. So sad. Even before coming to the US, I wish I could buy something exactly like mine. Fortunately went a grad school in US, bought my z and kept for 1.5 years. Rushed to Virginia and drove 9 hours to Pittsburgh. Finally got the job and move to SoCal just a month ago. During really tough & lonely time my Z was one of the best friends. Feel terrible to see the front of the car. It just sucks.. Fortunately nobody else was there, I'm not hurt just slight back/shoulder pain. A cop said recently there was another accident at exactly the same spot, same style of Ferrari. CA Angeles Crest Fwy around 5000ft point. This is the car. I think first thing I should do is to move my car from tow yard to a body shop I can trust before State Farm takes over. I have two recommendations but you know, it would be perfect if I find one knows better about Z. Any thoughts? SF sells all three. They all have different agreements on how value is determined, I hope the neighbor has a more knowledgeable and fortright staff there than they do here in Illinois. Determining the cost on a repair of this type will be challenging .and any competent shop will probably bill as time and material. Your neighbor wont like that and will try if repairable limit their exposure before repairs are complete. As far as damage goes you relly need to get the front sheetmetal off of the car to accurately determine the extent of the structural damage and and other conditions that may complicate the repair process. Kali Posted February 27, 2012 Share Posted February 27, 2012 So sorry about that guy. I know how you feel. I didn't have my S30 for more than a month and I got hit on the driver side. Most of the damage was done to the door, and rocker couldn't even get it open. The front quarter, and a the rear fender were hit pretty bad too. I called a Z specialist in the area(Tacoma, WA) asked if they could recommend a place, turned out there wasn't any frame damage. So they took the time sought out the parts, brand new rocker! The door they found at a junk yard took the time to find one with minimal rust. Banged out the fenders and blended the paint. Cost me $2500. yeah it was a pretty penny but it got my Kali looking just as good if not better. Hope you can try to get her fixed, if not find a decent replacement. z240 Posted February 27, 2012 Share Posted February 27, 2012 (edited) Get that bent sheet metal off and look at the front rad support and front structure for any folds and creases, especially the areas where it joins to the rockers. It really doesn't look that bad to me. The skin is wrinkly but the bones are likely not broken. You're not leaking fluids, all the glass is in place. Do the door work exactly like before? One step at a time. And learn EXACTLY what you policy provides as Larry suggests before any arguing starts. But that seat being out of position is not good news..... Good news is there are a TON of Z cars out here you can prob swap your parts into if you go that route. I would be a little wary the LA listings as they tend to be a bit overpriced. Good luck! rayaapp2 Posted February 28, 2012 Share Posted February 28, 2012 looks like you are going to need a new front clip in the least and probably some bad dog Z/findings parts. You had a nice car. I recently had 2 similar experiences. You should be able to get some kind of value assigned to that car that will help you out. The key would be to find a place that would be willing to repair the car for less than the damage threshold of the insurance company. You will have to have that discussion with your insurance and it can be a tricky one as they have several options to play that will reduce their total payout. I've aggressively driven the Angeles Crest area quite abit in my Z4 coupe and it is fun-(albeit unforgiving)...even though some areas were burned out so bad. The fact that your seat looks tweaked requires more inspection.....good chance it is just a tweaked seat-back or rail. I have restored over 30 S30's over the years and I can say for sure....although your chassis can be straightened and repaired....I would personally find a straight unmolested body and research good shops to get it stripped,sandblasted,etch primed and ready to swap over all your already restored bits. I think they are based on LOW RETAIL condition of NADA price. I think my car is well enough to get HIGH RETAIL status so gathering evidences about it.
