'77 280 Takes a lot of Cranking to Start

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My car has developed a problem where just about every time I start the car it takes at least 5 or 10 seconds for the car to start.  Sometimes it can takes almost 20 seconds.  Once the car starts up it runs just fine and doesn't stumble or lose power.  The starter is also working fine so my thought is it is either a spark or fuel issue.  I friend of mine is having a similar issue with his car and he said his was a fuel pressure regulator.  Any other suggestions as to what else it might be?

Suggest you "t" in a fuel pressure gauge and see what's going on.  A leaky injector or pump check valve will allow gradual loss of fuel rail pressure causing excessive cranking times.

^^^ This.  I had a cracked injector in my Z31 that caused this exact issue.
