MS Tuner In NJ

Recommended Posts

I recently got a 1977 280z with a l28et swap and MS1 v3. I have no idea hot to tube it. Im looking for someone who does. It doesn't if its a shop or a individual, as long as they know what they are doing. The car runs and drives, but little rich. The only mods on the car are AFM delete, inter-cooler, boost controller, boost gauge, a/f gauge, ms1 v3, and soon a full exhaust system. The car is in Newark right now but i can rent a trailer or drive it almost anywhere in NJ. Thanks

I have been looking for someone as well. Not only to tune but install. I have had my 83 280zx sitting in storage with a fresh turbo motor dropped in but I have been unable to decide what ecu to use. So many options and I round rather not deal with re sets and tuning but if I had some help I'm sure I could pick up on it. Hope you have some luck finding someone to help.

A lot of people here seem to be using MS. The problem with that seems to be that not a lot of tuner touch MS anymore. Maybe going with a complete standalone would be easier. Also I heard that that Jim wolf tech can make you a custom ecu but the problem I see with that it would make it that the car cannot be upgraded unless you send the ecu back to them to have it modded. BTW where are you located?

I have thought about the z31 swap in my sleep for so many nights. I love the swap idea... I mean on a budget, stock injectors, my old n/a motor and better economy would be lovely and I would have already done it. Using a later ecu and adapting it to an earlier model l28 is genius but I don't get the price. By the time you send out the ecu to JWT or Nistune your close to a grand (plus the price of original ecu and wire harness 200$ + ebay). But now I have the turbo motor, 440 supra injectors, maxima oil pump and I'm looking for alittle more reliability instead of start and tune start and tune more time in the garage. Would rather use the time to chassis save the under carriage and save what's left of the 83 frame, engine compartment and floor boards. My heart wants to just drop the 1700$ on an sds distributerless em5 or whatever the hell it is and get it right and be done with it. I understand MS is for the budget and can be adapted in so many ways I'm just not about to spend hour after hour installing and then tuning. I know that's what it's all about and I'll get ripped for saying that but I'm looking for the easiest start and drive conclusion. I'm in cape May county nj.

Any standalone is going to require hacking up your harness, wiring, troubleshooting, etc. It's just that with SDS and Haltech and whatnot there's a tech. support line if you need it. With MS you have forums. But for me, it's all about the features/price point. I hate calling support lines, and it's always been easier figuring out the problem on my own rather than trying to describe it to someone else.

I'd be very interested in someone in NJ as well.  While I have a basic understanding of my way around tuner studio I'd really like someone that knows what they're doing to guide me a little.  A dyno to tune it would be a major plus.

I would like to learn as well. I finally got my garage in order as I just purchased a house and will have nothing but time and finally a place to work in the next 30 days. I'm not saying that I wouldn't pay someone to help me out and get things right, I would just hope that if I had a problem down the road that I would have learned enough to figure it out instead of calling that same person or messing things up even worse.

i own a small Dyno shop in levittown pa, 5 minutes from the burlington/bristol bridge. i have tuned three turbo miatas, a turbo horizon and am working on a rb25 swap in a s13 right now. my shopmate has built megasquirt boxes from scratch. i am more that happy to fully tune, rent dyno time and guide you tuning yourself or rent the dyno for your own tuning. my number is 215-310-8851. its my cell so you can text me if you want. Let me know what u need. I am a nissan guy at heart. my 88 z31t is making 498 whp 497 tq on a stock na block. cams and heads, running a haltech e6k and a t67 turbo. it should make a lot more next time on the dyno. I will be the mobile dyno guy at the carlisle performance and style and import/kit car weekend if you guys are going to that.

zmainiac, I know its been some time since you last post but I have finally had some time after purchase of house and getting garage organized to figure out how I want to approach my 83, 280zx over the winter. I currently almost have my n/a block out of the car and will be putting an l28 turbo motor I bought from a guy outside of New York.  He wanted me to look him up on here and I have since lost his phone # and have searched for some time to try to find him on here with no success. I was wondering if I purchased an e6k or now an e6x if you could help me in any way. I can tackle anything that I can physically see and if not learn quickly. Electronics Ill admit is my down fall especially when it comes to all the tables and inputs needed in megasquirt and haltech. Im sure that I could learn quickly but would stay away in a fear that I would mess something up. I live down in Atlantic County in New Jersey. Not too far from your shop but not right around the corner. I just want to do my car right and not f&*% s*&$% up as I know many people do. I can pay you for your time and have access to a tralior to transport the car if needed. Still have some time before the motor is in and I decide what EMS to go with. You seem to know what your doing and would appreciate any time you could throw my way in the future.

Unfortunately, zmaniac killed himself while DUI. I haven't heard about what happened to his shop, but he had the best rates and I was looking forward to seeing a fellow z guy to tune my VG33 S30.

I'm pretty familiar with MS, and am willing to help out. I'm in central NJ. I've never used Haltech but am willing to try it out. I've seen it in use and played with the software, but that's about it. Would love to play with it though as I've been kind of casually eyeing to upgrade my MS.

Oh geeze, thats horrible to hear. I appreciate you letting me know that had happened. I thankyou for you offering to help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Im very lost in which route to go. I want to go with megasquirt for the $ and also to understand how it works as I install it. There seems to be LOTS of information out there and I have no problem reading up as much as I can to get things right. I would also like you to help me do that install as well. Like I said I can pay you for your time and will not be getting into it till after christmas. Still have yet to put the motor in buy acouple of gauges and be ready to wire up. So you have a 300zx motor in your 260z? Twin Turbo? I bet that car is quick..

Hey man long time no talk. I apologize for not getting back to you in some time as things have been tough on the home front with the family. I have however been working on z when I have time and haven't forgotten about you. I read up on your work all the time and wish I had the time and money right now to do some of the work you do. You should be proud of yourself most of the stuff you have done to your car is sick! I have put some gauges in the interior and still have a couple to purchase (of course the most expensive air fuel and oil pressure. The old block is out and I took the time to paint the engine bay while I was low on money and had some time to work. I replaced the simple things that I could do for now throw out bearing and soon to be motor mounts before putting motor back in. I was wondering if your still up for the task of helping me with megasquirt. I probably won't be able to really get into it until the winter but I'm slowly gathering the last of the things I need to continue. Mostly fuel and cooling parts besides the megasquirt. I came across a guy that builds custom wire harnesses for mega squirt.

I'm thinking this would make things much easier. Of coarse I don't know if you even live in nj still ha. I probably should have started there but hope things are good and your still around. I appreciate you time..
