Do oil and copper mix?

Recommended Posts

My oil pump pick up tube is made of cast aluminum and I need to extend it to change the pick up point for an engine swap I'm doing. The pics are just a mock up for distance and configuration, I can use a combination of brazing and/or soldering and mechanical bracing to hold the pick up where I want it

but my question is, Is there anything in hot oil that will attack copper, brazing or solder?

The dissimilar metals solder I will be using is good up to 350* F.

Thanks,

Chris

While there are no issues with oil and copper, I'd try and find some aluminum tube to make that transition. IIRC there are some "metal Supermarkets around, I believe that's the name. I think there is one located in Cambridge that might have some aluminum tubing.

Alternatively, you could get some aluminum block, drill intersecting holes and weld that in place, that might also help provide an easy method of adding bracing to the pickup.
