73Fairlady's 240z Build *heavy pics*

Recommended Posts

over the weekend i dropped all the rear suspension and diff. Had to fix the diff mount and run new brake line and ebrake line and got the spare tire well cut out for clearance and fuel cell. got everything all in and set now. should be putting in axles and drive shaft this week and should be on the ground next weekend. Also did a little work on the dash, this thing was ruff but I think it will come out decent.

I mounted my fender mirrors yesterday, I think i screwed up the measurements on the passenger side. Drivers side is perfect, but I'm seeing high right on the passenger side. At this point I'm not sure what if anything I can do about it. Remeasuring i thing its inward and forward 1 CM. I measured from the hole and not the base plate like i should have done.

And now that its on the wheels, this thing is tiny! never realized how small these cars are

Off topic question...can you see if the seats from the mazda3 would fit.  I loved my Mazdaspeed3 seats and always wondered if they or the mazda3 seats fit.

Thanks

I could measure to see if they would fit in the car, but I don't have factory seat brackets anymore.

Great...just interested if they fit width wise.

You maybe able to get them to work, but it would be tight. width of the seats or 21" I don't have factory seat rails so i'm not sure how high they would sit. But measuring from the tunnel to the sil its under 21" wide, so you would have to mount them really high.

Started fitting the front panels on this week

you can see the passenger side is just about fitted, Drivers side has yet to be. These are aftermarket fenders and there is defiantly trimming and messaging that needs to be done, but there not horrible. after a little fitting I think they actually line up really well.

Also got some new linkage rods, New OER rods

This build makes me happy

I'm glad it makes someone happy haha. I think it makes me just as frustrated as it does happy, but that's kind of half the point of building something isn't it?

So summit racing brought me the goods yesterday, got the new RCI fuel cell. Went for the 10 gallon, smaller, lighter, and gives me tons of room back there

Fuel cell looks good, I'm thinking of moving up to aluminum from my plastic/steel case one.

10 gallons might be a little on the small side. I know my tank was using gas at about 1% a mile with the L28 and a richer tune. It didn't hit the sender float until you had a good 3 or 4 gallons in it and I think the float topped out before the gas filled the tank, but the these guys can be thirsty.

I was going back and forth between the 10-12 and decided to just go with the 10. I know it is a little small but i figure its no way a daily and I don't mind a few more gas stops.

I'm starting to get into the body work and deciding what I'm going to be using. I think I'm going to go with the type 1 air dam from retro spec, I have there ZG wide flares on the way. For the back I think I'm all over the map, some days i want to go no wing, but most days I'm debating which one in my head. The rocket bunny wing has the PERFECT look, but at $800 its about the most insane thing ive seen. I do like the tall BRE spoilers as well as the victory.... O decisions

small update, i haven't gotten to much time to work on the z. I did get a little closer on the dash, and i got my retrospec flares. flares are nicer quality then Ive seen on any of the other aftermarket zg's.also got a few repair panels, more body work :( I hate body work.

Ive had my eye on some real wheels (sorry rota) these on car are 15x9 -15 all around with 225/50's, rear has a 20 mill spacer.

I am wanting 16x9.5 -25 Te37v (same wheel but not the knock off) with 245/45 R888. With the fitting and measuring I think they should fit really nicely.

The 1% a mile was with a 16 gallon fuel cell, I guess time will tell and you can always step up as long as you leave room for it. I bashed the bottom of my car on a metal plate last week, and I'm sure glad I had a steel case instead of aluminum.

Progress looks good, I think the front flare usually sits in line with the bumper in the front so it sits a little more crooked, I've seen people go several different ways with the rear.

Any more details on how you made the center gauge pods? I'm still trying to find a better stock-looking solution to what I did with my fuel gauge from speed hut. Yours look like the 2 5/8", is that right?

This 10gal will sit waaaay higher then anything else under so not worried about hitting. It is on the small side but it is in no way a normal/daily driver, weekend warrior for sure. There will be more room if I hate it later on.

Ya that's just more a crude mock up on the flares, I think I'm going to clock them off of the lower body line
