Good parts from 1982 on 1979

Recommended Posts

I have a recently rebuilt 79 zx with no interior parts beside the dash(no carpets nothing). Yesterday I bought an 82 t top with a full interior and a heating problem (also terrible body). Carrying over the interior parts will be the fun part, but I can’t keep myself from thinking about a t top conversion. My 79 already has a poorly corrected moonroof already so aesthetics won’t be an issue. Is it possible enough to be done myself or be relatively affordable at a shop? (Under a grand?) Also wondering if the quarter windows and taillights are compatible

You have the two cars to check and measure but it sounds like a roof transplant is required ie cut the roof (turret) off one and put it on the other. Specialist welding required but it's the sort of job any body shop should be able to do, if they want to.

so you know i have been going crazy trying to find weather stripping for my 83 zx with t-tops. they DO NOT exist. not new, not used. i have called and called so many places from datsun specialty places to weatherstripping places. there is rubber to attach to the t-top but nothing for the rubber the mounts to the body and it seems very unique. but good luck, there has got to be universal rubber i just havnt found it yet

The frame of the t top is in the center and in the 79 it’s different. Is that the specialist welding your talking about 260det?

Steelerubber.com   800 230 5871  They will custom make most any seal.  I haven't talked with them yet about my 79 ZX, but have used them in the past for other cars.  I need door seals and intend to contact them  about my car.  Perhaps they will make a small batch if there is enough demand.  After I talk with them, I will post my result.  I may start another thread asking for ZX owners to post their weather stripping needs.  Apparently there are different t-top designs for the various years.  Are the rest of the seals the same for all the ZX years?
