81 ZX Wheel Fitment

Hey all,

I know the topic has been beaten to death, and believe me I've poured through as much research on the subject as I could but there seems to be some conflicting information floating around.

Im looking to source a set of wheels, and I know the general rules of thumb in terms of offsets and widths with these cars but I want to verify a specific spec with you all before committing.

Im not looking to roll or pull fenders and the car is currently lowered on a Tokico spring setup. I want no rubbing, just simply want to fill the arches better. I want to try to run a 50 series tire as well if I can - don't love the look of small side walls on these cars.

Currently eyeing a set of Work Equip 40's which are luckily available in varying widths and offsets so my options are there if these aren't quit right

Let me know everyone's thoughts on:

Front 15x8 ET -3

Rear 15x8 ET -26

I worry that these sizes are on the conservative side and it won't fill the arches as much as I'd like. Are these on the cusp of rubbing territory in your guy's opinion or do I have room for either a lower offset or even an 8.5 with around the same specs?

Lastly I can't find a solid answer on the S130 hub bore size - I've heard 73mm being tossed around but didn't seem definitive.

Whats the correct front and rear hub bore so I can make sure the hub bore on the Work's is large enough and I can order the correct hub centric rings.

Im no stranger to wheel fitment and how it all works from previous builds, but have no experience with these early Datsuns so I really appreciate the input!

Thanks!

Thanks for the share - car looks great!

I think that front fitment is spot on for what Im looking for, so thanks for that.

Do you have plenty of clearance both front and rear with the suspension components? Now Im wondering if I should go 9" in the rear with a with a -3 as long as there's enough clearance in there for the rears to come in those 12mm.

i run front 17x7 0-offset with 225/45/17 and rear 17x8 0-offset 235/45/17 and they fit with no issue. i know some can fit wider but im happy with my setup and its not pushing any limits so its one less thing to worry about. because i have 400whp (via LS motor) it squats real hard and i had to trim the front of the rear wheel well cause as it squats the wheel pulls forward cause of the trailing arm design. i have since bumped my rear spring rate from stock 125lb to now 400lb springs to keep the squating to a limit...but the pic will show what it used to do with 280lb

springs.

bottom line is what i told you that i run fits fine, no issues at all other than minor trimming if you run higher HP. you can probably squeeze a lil more if others are saying they have.

also if you have a 9inch wide rim and running 225 wide tires your putting less rubber to the road than my 8in wide with a 235 wide so an extra 1in of rim doesnt mean anything.998161429_IMG_0712(1)_Moment.jpg.212495f4479a96fa9fc86a4e13cea46f.jpg733926301_20190727_151554(2).jpg.88b8dd24bc5ace88e674c740a543900a.jpg1155013644_20190727_151619(1).jpg.f670b0b2cbd2acec0d2a8ea5db671811.jpg

last thing ill say is you probably wanna stay with -3 all the way around. you dont really want the rear to stick out anymore than it will. i know you mayb wanna a staggered look, thats why i did 7 wide in front. but if you look at this pic you will see the rear looks inside the wheel well at the top but near the bottom the tire is wider than the fender and thats 0-offset 8in wide. if you do 16 then your going to be 5/8in wider than what you see in this pic.

good luck with your choice, its stressful i know cause once you purchase them, thats it!!!
