Mega squirt ms2 basic ign timing for start up

Recommended Posts

In need a bit of help guys with basic ign timing for first start up.

I’ve recently purchased a 280z as a non runner with a missing ms3  ecu.
The car is running coil over plug with x2 Quad spark units and a turbo
Distributor fitted with a diyauto tuner 1-12 wheel.
I’ve a new ms2 ecu and am having trouble setting the basic start up timing with a strobe.
I simply can’t see the pulley mark at cranking speed to adjust the trigger1 setting
Anyone have a similar set up and know a rough setting that might let me get it started so I can set up with strobe
Any thoughts

Take with a grain of salt, but you can ball park it by counting the teeth from the missing tooth when the engine is at TDC.

Keep in mind you need to check the cam since two crank rotations per crank.

Count teeth offset and I think you offset by 1/2 of the teeth x 30*.

With that said mine never matched up, I had to just set it based off the timing light, so would be best to get that working either by boosting the charge on the battery or getting a more sensitive trigger.

I would confirm your tooth #1 angle. Honestly it took me forever to get mine set right despite triple checking that the engine was at TDC and that I had the wheel oriented correctly. It's also possible to set your distributor the wrong direction, which could offset your number #1 tooth angle by 180deg. I spent hours getting trying to get mine close and eventually had to just adjust by about 10deg intervals in my settings until I got it to fire.
