how 'bout a turbo 13b rotary engine?

I haven't heard any reference to the Tri rotor engine in this thread yet. I once had contact with a 280Z owner that purchased a dual turbo, Tri Rotor engine for a swap into his car, but lost contact with him.

If anyone knows the official engine model designator for the Tri rotor engine please post it here so I can search for more info.

I've always felt that if one were to attemp a rotor engine swap into a Z that the wisest approach would be to go the whole nine yards to make the expense and time worth it (especially the Results!), but I am totally ignorant about rotor engines or what the biggest obstacles are to such a swap.

I'd love to hear more from others that are attempting it, because I have a few Z bodies sitting around here that I could attempt such a swap in)

I'll keep watching this thread or explore the Mazda forums to learn more also. Oh, and I will do the suggested search of the HybridZ site as well.

  • 4 weeks later...

i had to work last weekend, and I'll have to work this weekend as well, but if time permits, I'm going to bolt up the transmission, and trial fit it into the Z. I'll have pics up for reference if I get a chance to do this. If not, it'll happen next weekend. 73botiz was kind enough to offer to help manufacture and weld in the mounts for me, big kudos to him, thanks mike!

 check that ebay auction now... that's a nice little car... but then read this:

"Bidding has ended for this item: The seller ended this listing early because the item was lost or broken"

that sucks... I think that'd really be an awesome daily driver... my friend used to have a starlet man they are nice little cars.

It is kinda interesting, why are there so many rotary 510's floating around, but really no one bothers with a rotary Z? I'd LOVE to have a rotary 510... but for a Z L28et is for me :)

reason you see so many 510s is because a 1st/2nd gen rx7 13b blocks are easily adaptable to mount into a 510, they're light weight and cheap. This gives the 510 better weight distributions, and accomodates the engine bay better (rotary is very short),

with a Z, you can stuff almost any motor, and especially the ease of the chevy motor installs dwarfs the desire for a rotary.

although it doesn't go in depth of swapping you will find much information about the rotary itself.
