labrat Posted June 1, 2004 Share Posted June 1, 2004 How big a muffler will fit in the stock muffler location on a 81ZX? Anyone know? I'm trying to find out if a 50 series 3" in/out flowmaster will fit there. I think the case is 17" long and the whole thing is 23" with 3" of pipe in and out. Any input is appreciated! clarkspeed Posted June 2, 2004 Share Posted June 2, 2004 I sold my 81 last year. It had 6 into 3" header. 3" in/out cat. 3" Dynomax race muffler (glass pack) before the axle. The system finished out with a 6" dia. round Dynomax straight through race muffler. It all had to empty on the drivers side. I would think a Flowmaster would fit also. Brad-ManQ45 Posted June 2, 2004 Share Posted June 2, 2004 My '83 ZXT has an oval cannister muffler (DynoMax) that is 20 long (body) ~9" wide and ~4" hihg and it fits no problem. 3" straight though.
