Darkone Posted April 17, 2007 Share Posted April 17, 2007 im doing a v8 swap in my 77 280 and the moter i am using is a Tune port injected 350 and a t5 trans but im having a problem finding a flywheel i think i need the 152 toothed one but cant figure out what vehicals these came in this is a car bellhousing so i guess i need the small flywheel any help would be apreciated. BTW, get the casting number off the engine and then use the chart at MorTec http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm to figure out what engine you have. Not SFI rated, but tested to 10,000 rpm. See my post about it in a related thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=97747 Wow, the one for the 86-up 1-pc seal engine is $309 at sdparts!!!!! The ebay price of $230 in that link speedracer gave is better, but, No thanks, I'd be looking for aftermarket for a light flywheel for the 1-pc seal engines! I run a scattershield (the new Sonic/Tilton one for 153 tooth flywheels): http://www.tiltonracing.com/content.php?page=feat1 so if it breaks, I am not too concerned. I have to have it resurfaced - there are a few heat spots on it that I need to have the speed shop/performance machine shop look at - I may be buying another one or an SFI rated aluminum one with a replaceable steel insert. wheelman Posted April 20, 2007 Share Posted April 20, 2007 Watch out with the 86 and up Camaro flywheels, they are set up for external balancing just like the LT1. I know this for 100% sure, I have a 153 tooth 16lb flywheel from a 86-up 305 on my LT1. These engines all had 1 piece rear main seals and a different bolt pattern on the flywheel. The flywheel works perfectly with the LT1 and makes for an easy match to a T5 using the Camaro bellhousing, clutch fork and clutch parts. The bolt circle on pre-1986 production crankshafts is 3.58†in diameter. For 1986 and later production crankshafts the bolt circle is 3.00â€. If your engine has a crankshaft with a one-piece rear seal, you must use a flywheel (or flexplate) with a 3.00†bolt pattern and a counterweighted flywheel for proper engine balance.
