I want to see what people have built for under $5000 including the purchase price of the car. I'm doing pretty good at this point at $1500 into my own project. Show your pictures and description of your project please.

Heres mine:

$700 Purchase Price (With 10k mile rebuilt motor)

$550 S2000 Seats

$ 0 Free Urethane Airdam

$0 Headlight covers from GF for christmas

$100 Toyota S12+8 Front Calipers

$ 50 Recarpet

$140 EZ Wiring Harness

$450 OBX Torsen Differential with bearings to install

$25 Replacement hood from Ron T after accident

$ 50 misc

$2065 Total

Next up for me is finish fixing slight rust, MegaSquirt, Coilovers, 240z bumpers and paint. Hopefully I can keep it under $5000 by that point.

As purchased:

I've put over $5,000 into mine in the last six weeks and have several thousand to go. What's interesting is that I bought it new in 1971 for $4,335. At that time, I paid about $600 over sticker to jump to the top of the nine month waiting list. The Z has been in storage for 15 years and I've now replaced all of the deteriorated items like brake & clutch cylinders, tires, door seals, ignition, etc. Next, to the body & interior. What fun!

Ron, Mine is indeed not the best for under 5K. Mainly I wanted to see others "budget" projects. Your V8 swap is very impressive for how much you could get while still doing it on the cheap. Do you still have the budget V8 240z?

Theres got to be more people out there. Look at all the grass root motorsport challenge cars each year!!

Regards,

Justin

Thanks. You'd have to add about $500 or so for the Caprice (wasn't much of a car) and add a bit for cost-of-living... I think that car could still be done under $4k, today.

Nope, long gone. I don't tend to 'sit-still'. One of my abundant character flaws :D

Funny, but I started reading the thread and immediately thought of Ron and his budget build V8 Z car. Read a little more and *bam!* there is the example I thought of---it certainly has my vote!

Also, there was another Z, Ford V8 conversion (junkyard conversion) that was done fairly well and would qualify too. I remember the car having two racing stripes offset to one side of the car (it was a black 240Z?). The guy had a page on his conversion as well. I can't find it, sorry.

I have about $3000 in it now including the purchase price. Will add around $500 more when I get the supercharger installed with the triple SKs that have been sitting in the garage for the last year.

They are from a honda s2000. They dont fit well at all. Major cutting and welding of the sheetmetal around the transmission tunnel and bellow the seat.
