L6 heads; pics and descriptions

Probably best described as 'blueprinted' from the foundry stage onwards. Certainly some of the factory race block castings were made in small batches under controlled conditions to ensure consistency and accuracy, but they did not really have any major visible differences to the stock production blocks. However, they were supposed to be using stock production castings - so that would be expected.

A lot of work was done at the machining stages ( oilways, boring, Wills ring grooves, stress relieving and surface prep etc etc ) but nothing particularly secret or special. Nissan Sports even published booklets on how to prep them.

hey so im new to this site, i had a question. has anybody heard of a e80 head? im goin to pick this head up today and thats what he said it was. im not sure if this is just a e88 head with a defaced number, or if it actually exists.
Welcome to the site, and a friendly word of advice, try using the search function. A quick search using "head" and "e80" turned up this thread:

Seems unlikely that an AU head made it over to So. Cal, so maybe your theory that the E88 is just defaced might be the deal. But it looks like there is such an animal as an E80 head.

I recently aquired an E-88 head from a member.. As I have searched I have come across numerous threads discusiing the various E-88 heads. I guess there were 4 versions from what I have found. I am attaching pics of the two that I own now. The one on my engine now is from 9/71 . The one I just aquired,(dirty) is from a 72-not sure what month. The 72 seems to look exactly like the E-30 listed early in this thread. I wish there was a pic of an e-31 head in this thread. If I missed it I'm sorry, but thought it was(is) strange that the very first head is not pictured here.

Anyway, not sure how you would describe the combustion chamber on this 72, but I laid the straight edge across the chamber to give some perspective.

The 9/71 ( clean) head has been unshrouded and milled .012

Think I have something similar on this ported head I picked up a few years ago. Never know if I should shave it to make it flat or leave the dip there... Would be quite a lot of material to be removed if you wanted it flat.

I haven't kept track of this thread and how many versions of the E88 there are but I'm pretty sure its normal.

All of these links are broken.  Is this a dead Photobucket account or did some images get lost in the crash?
