bellhousing for t-56

what would be the best bell housing i will need for my t-56 transimission. i am bolting it up to a chevy 400 small block. what will give me the best clearance for the arm. my car is a '77 280z.

The OEM T56 bellhousing from a 93-97(?) T56 install is what you want. I don't think there are any other GM housings out there. Make sure you've not got an LS1 trans too - those 56 are "different". I'm pretty sure the LT1 bellhousing will fit a 40 just fine. You'll likely need a Centerforce flywheel though. Figure $250 for it (shiver).

 

Clearance for the clutch arm is no biggie - the motor will be offset to the passenger side if you do the JTR setback anyway. The only cuttingbanging on my 240 was to remove the stock trans mounts and to ding the firewall a touch. The rest fit fine with just a little bumping for the reverse switch icon_biggrin.gif The 280 chassis may even have a wider tunnel...
