Hey all,

For those interested in a Disel Z, I found a cool article from the 1975 November Motor Trend Magazine. I have scanned the article for those who want to read it. Apparently this engine got 45mpg, in the 70's ! Pretty cool idea, I can't imagine how today's diesel would do in a Z, I imagine it would be pretty interesting !

Cheers

Thats a marine/industrial engine....you can find them in old fish boats and such around here. Pretty cool that they were doing this back then!

Heres a graph of an '05 TDI engine with just a chip (and probably exhaust). These engines are as light as any turbo 4cyl swap and you can buy RWD trans adapters for them.....I would love to have one in a 510 someday.

45mpg back then is pretty darn impressive considering most prius owners I talk to only get around 40-45....

I bet a full restored S30 with zero rust and a well done diesel swap could get better mpg than a prius, be a ton more fun, and cheaper too! Sounds like my kinda swap if you ask me.

I'd love to see some more people doing modern diesel swaps.

Considering a TDI golf or jetta already gets better mileage than a prius, subtract several hundred lbs and add some higher gearing for a Z (or 510) and id say you could guarantee better mileage.

aero though is were the Zs lose out to modern cars.

Pay particular attention to the cost per mile :burnout:

All the fuel log entries without fuel cost were free Veggi Oil top offs.
