Have you ever removed stub axles?

If so did the bearing come out with the axle or stay in place inside the hub. Everything I've read shows the bearing staying on the axle but I drove out two today with an air hammer and neither bearing moved at all. These are my donor axles that I'm going to have drilled and I was wondering if this is normal and will they just slide back into the bearing thats still in the hub?

Typically, the outer bearing comes out with the axle. Yours could be seized into place from road grit. Speaking only for myself, I'd replace the bearings while I was there anyhow. They aren't expensive and it a PITA to get to them.

Agreed, if the bearing has fixed itself into the housings, air hammering them out has probably boxed them all together. I've pressed a few pairs of stubs out and the bearings all came with them, at least the outer bearing. Even then it wasn't easy on the bearings.
