LS1 standalone pcm module

Recommended Posts

I tried searching and guess I just couldn't find the right phrasing. I read a post not too long ago about a company making a module that when mated with the harness and ecm makes the engine and management standalone. I failed to subscribe at the time and I should have. Anyone else remember who is making this module, have you used it?

The stock pcm is completely programmable. Unless you are going pretty extreme no need to get an aftermarket programming module like Big Stuff 3.

Maybe I read the post wrong. This didn't sound like it was for tuning. You still used the stock pcm to reprogram but this module worked in conjunction with the stock harness and pcm instead of the painsfree harness or speartech etc. ,to create an easy swap.

HP Tuners and EFI live are companies that sell the OE LSx PCM tuning programs utilizing an interface that plugs into the OBD-II port and links your laptop to the PCM allowing you full control over all the parameters with the PCM, fueling, ignition, timing, rev and speed limiters, idle control, VATS delete, CAGS delete, 2nd O-2 delete, set tach output, MAF delete, allows for 2 bar and 3 bar MAP sensors for boosted applications, full auto trans tuning shift points, firmness etc. Diablo Sports has hand held tuning controller that doesn't utilize a lap-top.

Personally I went with the HP-Tuners Pro suite. I saw its graphical user interface a little easier to use overall and love it. Both HP-Tuners and EFI-Live are incredibly powerful tuning tuning suites, for the most part offer the same features and control, though there a few subtle differences in some aspects that mostly appeal to shops that are tuning LSx engines on a regular basis. Be aware when researching these that there are the die hard fans in each of the tuning suite camps that will try to push their "opinion" of which tuning suite is best. Those that are truly informed will tell you all the suites have their place and there is no best, just depends on which one meets your needs, ease of use, etc. Some shops that post in the tuning suite forums own both HP-Tuners and EFI-Live and say on both forums that both are equally valuable. In short, don't get caught up in the EFI-Live vs HP-Tuners, war.

Thanks for the replies fellas. This info actually will help when it comes to the tuning part. I was not describing my search properly though. I did finally find the post. It's dealing with a adapter harness that allows the harness to function on it's own with minimal factory harness integration/splicing. Instead of having to have say a speartech modified harness, this adapter allows easy integration into factory harness. For some reason I had adapter module instead of adapter harness in my head. Again thanks for the helpful replies anyhow. Link to original post below. Harness is made by Mcmahon motorsport

I'm considering the MEFI system. I was told by a fairly knowledgeable person who travels all over the county tuning LS motors that it is a good stand-alone for my application (ITBs) because it is a true speed density ECU versus the OEM LS module.
